New Gameplay Trailer Featuring Jedah, Firebrand, Dormammu, and Ghost Rider

Aug 23, 2017 // Harrison Young

The latest Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite gameplay trailer is all about dark magic and demons. Here’s some insight into what the final four characters – along with the newly announced Soul Stone – are capable of.

Dormammu, a demonic being of immense power, is the ruler of the Dark Dimension. The Dark Dimension merged with the Makai Kingdom to become the Dark Kingdom. He is an extremely versatile character who can fight opponents from anywhere on the screen. Whether it’s using his multitude of spells, long range projectiles or ability to teleport to the opponent at will, Dormammu’s vast array of options will leave the opponent guessing what’s next.

Ghost Rider AKA “Johnny Blaze” made a deal with the devil; now he is cursed to wander the earth as Ghost Rider, carving a path on his hellish motorcycle. In combat he uses his hellfire chain to both keep the opponent at bay and do damage from afar. That may be his ideal range, but when up close, he uses his various Hell Fire and Seventh Circle Whip attacks to deal damage.

Firebrand is a type of gargoyle known as a Red Arremer. He will stand up to any threat posed to his home, the Demon Village, without a trace of fear. In combat he is an extremely agile character who is strongest from the air. From his ability to change directions mid-flight, blasting the opponent with flames from various angles or swooping down from hard to counter angles, Firebrand’s unconventional offense make him an ideal choice for those looking for character complexity.

Jedah is the head of house Dohma in the Makai Kingdom, now part of the Dark Kingdom. He believes his homeland is on a path to self-destruction and views himself as its savior and is an offensive powerhouse who can easily take out whole teams all on his own. His Spirale Divina projectile keeps the opponent in place, allowing Jedah the opportunity to attack with constant high/low mix-ups. Once he lands a hit, his damage output can result in a quick knockout.

The Soul Stone also makes its way into Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Using the Stone’s Infinity Surge sends out a long beam of energy that drains life from your opponent. This beam covers a large amount of the screen and gives you a safe way to tag in your partner. Activating the Infinity Storm brings your KO’d partner back to life and lets them fight with you mimicking your controller motions for a brief time. This opens up plenty of combo potential along with giving your partner a second chance.

The weird and wild Raid Mode costumes of Resident Evil Revelations

Aug 23, 2017 // Kellen Haney

We’ve already delved into part 1 and part 2 of our character introduction series for Resident Evil Revelations, but once you’ve finished the game’s story, there’s plenty more to dive into with the game’s highly replayable Raid Mode feature! There’s tons of customization for weapons and unique costumes for some of your favorite characters that also modify their abilities, including their knife and melee attacks.

Not every character has extra costumes, but chances are if you’ve seen them wearing it in the story mode, you’ll be able to unlock it in Raid Mode, alongside some bonus costumes exclusive to Raid Mode! If you’ve just started the game, you’ll only be able to access the first three maps; once you’ve completed the story, additional maps and characters will unlock as you complete maps and missions. Allow me to introduce you to some of them while you’re waiting for the game’s upcoming August 29 th release on Xbox One and PS4, or later this year on Nintendo Switch.

Jill Valentine

Jill’s first two costumes, “Diver” and “Beach,” modify her ability to reload and fire handguns and machine guns, giving her a good mix of maneuverability and flexibility when it comes to combat. Her standard Diver outfit is unlocked from the get-go, and you’ll recognize it right away from her appearance throughout most of the game’s story. To unlock her “Beach” costume, which also makes an appearance in the story, you’ll need to obtain a super rare weapon. These typically start to show up as mission rewards once you start getting into higher character levels, so it shouldn’t take you too long to unlock her second outfit.

She has one more costume unique to Raid Mode, too. The real draw for Jill is her “Pirate” costume, which makes her look less like a B.S.A.A. agent and more like a swashbuckler on the high seas, complete with a plumed hat and a friendly parrot on her shoulder! Similar to her other costumes, Jill has mastery over handguns and machine guns, with the added benefit of the “Shadow Dancer” ability that improves your ability to dodge. With good timing and a quick tap towards your enemies, you’ll be able to avoid incoming attacks with ease.

Chris Redfield

Chris also has two costumes that appear in the story. His first, “Snowy Mountain,” shows off his first appearance in the game, kitted out with his cold weather gear and a skullcap to keep warm throughout thick snow and blizzards. His second outfit, “Diver,” can be unlocked by reaching player level 30. As the name might suggest, this outfit features Chris as he appears aboard a derelict cruise ship adrift at sea. Both outfits offer faster shotgun and rifle reload and firing rates, allowing you to pick your battles from afar or wear down enemies with your rifle before blowing them away with your shotgun.

The hearty and hale Chris has a third, thematic costume, too. The plainly-named “Sailor” costume is just what it says on the tin, complete with shades and a matching cap. Unlike Jill’s buccaneer getup, Chris seems much more orderly, perfectly content to either take out ooze enemies or swab the deck in this unique costume. It makes for a lighthearted way to play as the ever-serious B.S.A.A. agent, and has some added bonuses, too. On top of his mastery of shotguns and rifles, Chris also gains the unique ability to become invincible for three seconds after using a green herb with the “Sailor Man” ability. A sailor who powers up after eating leafy greens sounds familiar, somehow….

Keith Lumley

While Keith doesn’t have a huge role in the story, he’s thrilling to play in Raid Mode, and also has a unique costume that can only be seen here. You’ll need to first unlock Keith as a playable character by completing up through Chapter 6 of the game’s story mode, but when you do, you’ll get access to his “Snowy Mountain” attire. Completing every stage with an S rank on Raid Mode’s “Chasm” difficulty will unlock his second costume, “Home Base.” Each costume will give him varying degrees of machine gun mastery, allowing him to fire and reload machine guns faster, as well as improved damage from knife attacks and melee strikes (attacks that trigger when you’re close to a stunned enemy).

Not content to simply sit around base, however, Keith has a third costume option that can be unlocked via reaching player level 50 – the “Ninja” costume. Keith loses his melee attack bonus, but gains an additional bonus to knife attacks, making him a dangerous close combatant. If you’re the type who likes to get up close, this is the costume for you. As an added bonus, Keith is also granted the upgraded “Shadow Dancer” skill, allowing him to dodge attacks with ease.

Rachel Foley

Rachel may not get much screen time in the game’s story campaign, but she’s a force to be reckoned with in Raid Mode. Boasting both mastery over shotguns and magnums, she’s able to balance out the relatively slow firing rate and reload time of her weapons of choice, and has a completely unique skill – the ability to regenerate her health. To unlock her, you’ll need to earn a Trinity Bonus by defeating all enemies in a stage without taking damage, all while your character’s (adjustable) level is the same or lower than the recommended level for the stage.

In addition, Rachel has a second costume you may recognize from the main story as well. Previously released as DLC, “Ooze Rachel” plays quite differently from her human counterpart, replacing her ranged weapon mastery with close quarters combat. Stun your enemies with some well-placed attacks, then take them down with a powerful melee strike! Rachel’s health regeneration is boosted even further with this costume, making green herbs a thing of the past.

HUNK

A mysterious Umbrella agent who shows up time and time again in Resident Evil lore, HUNK makes his appearance exclusively in Raid Mode. Unlocking HUNK in the first place is no easy task, requiring players to complete every map on “Abyss” difficulty with an S rank before gaining access to him. Once you do, you’ll have access to his mastery over machine guns and magnums, giving him a good mix of firepower to work with and augmented by his improved ability to dodge enemy attacks.

A second costume is available for HUNK – the aptly named Lady HUNK provides an alternate take on the legendary character. She also mixes up her skills by ditching HUNK’s machine gun mastery and improved dodges, and replacing them with a significant improvement to magnum reload speed and firing rate. Perfect for fans of putting everything into one powerful shot!

There’s plenty more characters and costumes to unlock, but we’ll leave that for you to discover when Resident Evil Revelations releases on PS4 and Xbox One on August 29 th , and later this year on Nintendo Switch!

Patrick Kulikowski: For those of you familiar with Teepo’s story in Breath of Fire III and Toby Fox’s Undertale (which, interestingly enough, takes a bunch of inspiration from Breath of Fire !), this Tumblr fan art by Sovereign Slayer is for you. Toriel embracing the sobbing Teepo — a rambunctious, misunderstood delinquent — is sure to conjure up some intense feels. Ah, would you mind not slicing all those onions in front of me? It’s not helping! *fans self*

And on the Ace Attorney side of things, here’s some lovely fan art from @katsuneudon depicting a side of Franziska von Karma we rarely ever get to see. You have to imagine that past the tough, stern exterior of the whip-wielding prosecutor is a sweet, loving, and understanding waifu er, lady.

New ecosystem revealed for Monster Hunter: World, the Wildspire Waste

Aug 18, 2017 // Yuri Araujo

As we arrive in the New World of Monster Hunter: World, we are welcomed by the shores and dense jungle of the Ancient Forest and all its hidden threats. Now, we explore further into this new land, discovering the diverse ecosystems of the Wildspire Waste.

Much like the Ancient Forest, the Wildspire Waste is a vast ecosystem balancing two main components: swamplands whose water is sourced right from the Ancient Forest, and a mostly dry expanse of sandy areas dotted by huge spires.

Along with the reveal of this new ecosystem, we see the return of the bulldozing, headstrong Barroth. With its ability to cover itself with mud to protect from the hot midday sun, this brute wyvern can roam between the swampy plains and the quick-sandy dunes. Hmmm… looks like it now has some pretty fierce competition in the muddy department, and we can’t wait to show more of the devilish hierarchy of this wasteland.

In the meantime, we’ve also introduced a brand new monster to the Ancient Forest ecosystem: the Kulu-Ya-Ku. This smart bird wyvern is capable of picking up objects from the environment or even digging up rocks. It can even use the latter, for example, as a shield against incoming attacks… Clever girl…

Of course, with the introduction of every new monster, we know to expect two things: 1) the exciting discovery of how that creature fits into the greater surrounding ecosystems and how to hunt it down, and 2) shiny new gear!

And if you’re a new hunter, I highly encourage checking out a video we’ve prepared specifically to highlight one of the key cycles in the life of a hunter:

By now I imagine you probably can’t wait to get your hands on Monster Hunter: World, so here are the currently confirmed gaming events we’ll attend, bringing you all 14 weapon types and two quests to take on:

I’ll be attending PAX West and Socks will be at gamescom. We’re both ecstatic to see some you hunters take on the hungry Great Jagras and the mighty Anjanath!

Signing off,

Yuri

The Characters of Resident Evil Revelations, Vol. 2

Aug 16, 2017 // Kellen Haney

The unique storytelling in Resident Evil Revelations presents the game’s twisting plot in a way you might expect from your favorite television show. Instead of controlling and following one main character throughout the game, you’ll jump between multiple characters and their perspectives, unveiling a larger story piece by piece through creative storytelling and clever cliffhangers. Following up on part one , we’re now taking a look at additional characters you’ll see among the varied locations of Revelations.

Serving as a bridge between Resident Evil 4 and 5 , you’ll see some familiar faces as well as newer additions to the Resident Evil universe.

Chris Redfield

Working for the same organization as Jill Valentine during the events of Resident Evil Revelations, Chris Redfield is a Special Operations Captain of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (B.S.A.A.). To both fans of the series and fans of games in general, Chris needs little introduction, making his first appearance in the original Resident Evil. Driven by a strong sense of justice despite being a bit bull-headed in his approach, Chris is well-known for taking care of those he commands and putting their safety above his own. While Redfield previously served as a member of Raccoon City’s Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) and escaped the infamous “Mansion Incident” in the Arklay Mountains, he quickly turned his sights on Umbrella, the company behind the outbreak that would lead to the eventual destruction of Raccoon City.

Chris’ mission to wipe out Umbrella eventually has taken him to a myriad of locations, from across Europe to the lonely Rockfort Island, and even to the white wasteland of Antarctica, before co-founding the B.S.A.A. Chris’ current location is unknown at the beginning of Revelations , which prompts Jill Valentine and Parker Luciani to begin a search and rescue mission.

Raid Mode Edge – In Raid Mode, Chris has both increased shotgun reload speed and increased rifle reload speed, allowing you to pick your battles – or pick off enemies – from a distance with a rifle before getting in close with a shotgun.

Jessica Sherawat

A member of the B.S.A.A. and Chris’ partner, Jessica initially joins Chris as they investigate the Valkoinen Mökki Airport, a location that’s suspected as a base of operations for the dormant extremist group, Il Veltro. Direct to a fault, Jessica seems quite interested in the partnership between Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, asking pointed questions even as Chris insists that she keep her mind on the mission. While currently working in the B.S.A.A., Jessica, much like Parker Luciani, has ties to the past and the F.B.C. (Federal Bioterrorism Commission), and was present during the events that would eventually lead to the destruction of the floating city Terragrigia.

Raid Mode Edge – Jessica has a slightly unconventional set of skills, improving both her machine gun and rifle reload speed. Take shots at your enemies from a distance with the rifle, and if they get too close? Switch to your machine gun and unload!

Quint Cetcham

Partner to Keith Lumley and a fellow B.S.A.A. agent, Quint is more than happy to spend his time at the B.S.A.A. offices completing paperwork and cracking (terrible) jokes over taking on missions. Still, at the behest of Chris Redfield, Quint joins Keith on a mission to investigate Valkoinen Mökki Airport to look for information on Jill and Parker’s whereabouts before Chris and Jessica are sent out to search for them. Despite his appearance, awkward demeanor, and his unfortunate call sign, Quint is a marvel with machinery, having suggested and implemented many of the features in the distinct Genesis Scanner as well as his equally distinct headset.

Raid Mode Edge – Quint is a great character for those who like to risk it all, with both faster shotgun reload speed as well as increased blast radius for his grenades.

Morgan Lansdale

A distinguished and calculated man, Lansdale is the head of the F.B.C., and, during the events of the Terragrigia panic, ordered the destruction of the city to prevent the bioweapon outbreak from spreading further. Around the same time that Jill and Parker first reached the Queen Zenobia, two of Lansdale’s agents also boarded the ship, investigating ties between the ship and the group Il Veltro on behalf of the F.B.C. He seems to harbor a resentment of the B.S.A.A. and has often come into open verbal conflict with the director of the group, Clive O’Brian.

Raid Mode Edge – Lansdale isn’t playable in Story Mode, but he has quite a way with weapons in Raid Mode, being able to reload both rifles and extremely powerful (but extremely slow) magnums faster. While he doesn’t have much in the way of close combat, with a steady aim, you’ll never have to worry about it.

Next week, we’ll be taking a look at the fun, weird, and call-back costumes for some of the characters that you can use in Raid Mode! Resident Evil Revelations will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One starting August 29, 2017, and Late 2017 on Nintendo Switch.

Looking back on Mega Man 10

Hot on the heels of its predecessor, Mega Man 10 continued the retro revolution while introducing a few new gameplay elements and another playable hero to the mix in the form of Bass, Mega Man’s recurring nemesis who’s out to prove he’s the strongest robot around. Mega Man 10 is full of challenging platforming and a memorable cast of Robot Masters, so let’s dive in to what makes it so great!

The revolution continues

The year of 20XX saw an unexpected change in robot behavior due to the effects of “Roboenza,” an illness that earned its name due to flu-like symptoms affecting machines. Mega Man swears to stop the berserk bots but seems to find an unlikely ally in Dr. Wily, of all people. Check out the recap video above for more!

We also have additional art from Jeffery “Chamba” Cruz, who shows all three heroes facing down the Roboenza-infected Robot Master menace:

It’s not often you see Mega Man without his helmet, but Chamba nails the desperation and willingness for the Blue Bomber to keep fighting even when the chips are down. While he may be outnumbered, he’s flanked by Proto Man and Bass, ready to take out any Robot Masters that might stand in their way. My personal favorite of this piece, though, has to be Sheep Man in the background, calling down a sinister lighting strike. Anyone who’s fought him knows that his fluffy exterior hides some shocking power.

Capcom’s favorite Robot Masters

Mega Man 10 is no exception to the rule when it comes to unique Robot Masters, with a varied cast that tends to bend the rules slightly in terms of how they all fit together – Mega Man Killers included! Read on for some favorites of Capcom staff, and let us know your favorite Robot Master in the comments, too!

Kazuhiro Tsuchiya (Producer, Capcom Japan): The combination of Enker’s knight design and his role as a Mega Man Killer really gels well together to me.

Tim Turi (Associate Brand Manager): If you’ve been reading these Robot Master favorites entries, you already know I have a weakness for goofy bosses. From the first moment I learned about Sheep Man I was in love with him. My emotional journey began with “Wait, what the heck?” and ended with “Well, of course, a sheep robot is amazing.”

Like Wood Man or Clown Man, if you’re expecting this odd Robot Master to be a pushover, you’re in for a rude awakening. Sheep Man’s wavering electric blasts (anyone reminded of Elec Man?) and his ability to turn into electrified clouds of wool make him the perfect weaponized sheep robot. And with a new Blade Runner film on the horizon, facing this “electric sheep” feels even cooler.

Patrick Kulikowski (Customer Support Representative): When Solar Man isn’t busy being taken over by Roboenza and attempting to incinerate Mega Man, he seems to be doing the environment a solid in researching sunlight in his lab. Converting solar energy is a beneficial thing; it’s always worth pointing out the initial good that exists in these man-made creations!

From a game design aspect, I love how challenging Solar Man’s fight is. His crenellated parapet of a noggin serves two purposes. Firstly, he charges his fiery Solar Blaze so he can lob it at Mega Man. Secondly, his head can absorb Mega Man’s Mega Buster blasts to further power the Solar Blaze. Mega Man has to strategically time his shots to avoid accidentally assisting his enemy. How cool! Or hot. Your call.

I also credit Solar Man with having one of the coolest stage tunes in Mega Man 10. Composed by Capcom alumnus Yasuaki “Bun Bun” Fujita, the “Solar Inferno” track sounds straight-up like 8-bit thrash metal. Once I heard it, I couldn’t get it out of my head. And when I couldn’t get it out of my head, I channeled it into a drum performance .

Kellen Haney (Social Media Specialist):  “Get the Punk Out” is the name of Punk’s stage theme music from Mega Man 10, and I just can’t resist a good pun. Unlike the typical Robot Masters that go hand in hand with Mega Man games, Punk is one of three “Mega Man Killers” that Dr. Wily created for a singular purpose. Go ahead, guess what purpose that is. Just look at the guy – covered in sharp spikes and vicious blades. His main method of attack is to throw his special weapon, the blade-covered Screw Crusher, at his opponents. If that sounds more Metal than Punk, keep in mind that he can curl into a ball and throw himself at Mega Man, too.

Long-time fans might remember that Punk initially showed up in the handheld games Mega Man III and Mega Man V before re-appearing in Mega Man 10. While his signature track was originally a bit slower and more relaxed, the remixed version for Mega Man 10 ups the tempo and has a high-pitched tone that runs through most of the song. Sounds a bit like the lead vocalist, doesn’t it? Maybe Punk should form a band – I hear Splash Woman is a great singer, too.

That’s everything for Mega Man 7 through 10 ! On a personal note, I really hope you’ve all enjoyed reflecting on these games as much as all of us at Capcom have. You, too, can enjoy these classic titles too, with Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Keep fighting, Mega Man! For everlasting peace.
