The Disney Afternoon Collection Gallery Spotlight: Museum

Apr 13, 2017 // Yuri Araujo

Let’s take another look back into the past with a closer look at some of the materials featured in our Museum section of the Gallery mode. This time, it’s all about the original packaging art.

Original materials from the late 80s and early 90s era of gaming are oftentimes really hard to find. Much like my 90s bedroom, archiving and organizing material in the industry just wasn’t super clean back then, so we worked closely with the experts at Digital Eclipse to find some great materials for this section of the game’s gallery.

Similarly to the Pencil to Pixel sketches we recently showed you, there’s a certain charm to seeing rough and sometimes raw pieces of art. In this case, we actually got high resolution scans of each game’s original box art. For today’s blog, let’s focus on the very first game release: DuckTales (1989).

The header image this time is actually a scan of the limited edition golden cartridge for the 2013 release, just to show you that we’ve tried to include several different versions of these games’ pack art.

Collectors will remember this one: the iconic purple box frame… the white Capcom logo on a red background… the Captain Commando signature… wait, what?

And here’s the Japanese version counterpart, which came out the following year. The artwork itself is almost the same, with the only change being the saturation of the colors. The rest is completely different: different box size, color, back of box layout, no Captain Commando.

Pretty interesting stuff, if you ask me. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments.

And remember to pick up The Disney Afternoon Collection on April 18 to see these pieces as well as scans of the packaging artwork for all 6 games.

Capcom Recap: 03/31/2017 – 04/07/2017

Apr 07, 2017 // Yuri Araujo

Hello again, Capcom Unity! Since our last recap, the team here and I attended WonderCon and are still slowly recovering from the event. For those that missed it, here’s your chance to see the surprises we revealed at the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary panel.

Before we get into the news and brand updates, let’s take a moment to appreciate the nostalgia blast coming from this 90s kid’s bedroom booth design, shall we?

Yep! This is where we had people play The Disney Afternoon Collection. Check out more shots of the booth in this gallery.

Capcom Vancouver answers your questions about the games industry.

Dead Rising 4 specialized pre-order are now available for purchase

Capcom USA and Capcom Vancouver are looking for experienced industry professionals for a variety of roles.

——————————

Just like last time, I’ll be passing the mic over to Harrison Young, for the Street Fighter updates, then Jeffery Simpson, for Dead Rising news.

Harrison Young First off, I’d like to give a big thanks to everybody who participated in the PC beta over the weekend and helped us collect data for the new Capcom Fighters Network (CFN)!

Last weekend, we hosted the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Panel at WonderCon and announced a couple of new items coming to Street Fighter V. Here’s a quick summary:

The first one is sure to bring back memories of Street Fighter II… the Thailand stage will be making its triumphant return in Street Fighter V !

Next up, we have three new costumes for Ryu, Chun-Li, and Juri! These were a part of the Street Fighter Academy quiz on our CFN portal website on April Fools. If you did well on the quiz, you were rewarded with some awesome artwork of the new costumes by renowned artist Shinkiro. But if you didn’t do so well, you got stuck with… well, some interesting art by Woshige, the Battle Director of Street Fighter V .

Full-size view of each piece can be found in this gallery.

——————————

Jeffery Simpson Dead Rising 4: Frank Rising just came out this Tuesday on Xbox One and Windows 10 and will be out next Tuesday, April 11th on Steam. Following up the story of Frank West in Willamette, our hero has new abilities and a mysterious new ally. Watch the launch trailer here:

——————————

The Monster Hunter community is still growing stronger, like the proverbial Zinogre summoning Fulgurbugs to charge itself up. Coming up later this month, on April 22nd, is a community led event over in Portland, OR. The event will run for 6 hours and will even feature some local streamers. Find out more and RSVP on their Facebook event page: www.facebook.com/events/1401629579898246…

By the way, if you’re hosting your own Monster Hunter gathering, let us know! We’d love to help.

——————————

Also at WonderCon, a group of local cosplayers came by our booth with an amazing Monster Hunter set up. Hakuramen, Krow Pan, Russel Del Rosario, Patchworkpuppet and Kinokashi showed up decked out in handmade armor sets and weapons… but they also brought a full-size Felyne Tank! Credit goes to Hakuramen for building the whole thing, but moving it around was definitely a team effort. Great work, everyone!

More awesome cosplay was also happening across the pond at Japan Party 2017, in France. Continuing the trend of impressive feats, aside from making their own armor and a little cardboard Kecha Wacha to serve as a punching bag, they also made a functional Hunting Horn! I wasn’t present at that event, so I didn’t get to verify if people were getting the Defense Boost (L), but you can hear the sound coming through the video:

Stephanie Palermo Hello! Stephanie here from the Capcom PR fam. Just this weekend, talented fan Daryan shared with us his recent beautiful violin covers of Ace Attorney songs. His approach is a creative take on the series’ dramatic and incredible tunes. Multiple violin video recordings play simultaneously which really brings the layers of this song to life. Check out my favorite of his covers, “Objection! 2001.”

——————————

STICKY NOTE: Did you make something cool? Send us a note or drop a comment below; we would love to feature your work here! Same goes for any awesome stuff you may see in the wild; we always welcome more fantastic fan work =)

——————————

That’s it for this week’s recap. Again, we’re always open to feedback, so please send over your thoughts on the format, type of content, etc.

Until next time!

Capcom Vancouver Recruiter Q&A Video

Apr 06, 2017 // Jeffery Simspon

Thanks to the fantastic Capcom Unity community we managed to have a host of great questions to ask our Vancouver based recruiters. The questions were focused on getting that illusive first job. From being a student looking to start a long career making games to people trying to transition into the industry.

We spoke for just over half an hour, but we hope that you may get some useful advice out of the conversation.

Capcom Recap: 03/24/2017 – 03/30/2017

Mar 31, 2017 // Yuri Araujo

Greetings, Capcom Unity, and welcome to your weekly look back—and sometimes forward—at all things Capcom! This new blog series is a one stop digest of Capcom news, updates, community highlights and other goings on.

Let’s start things off with a quick look at the most recent news. Here’s the official scoop on what happened over the past week:

Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando Mobile is now available on iOS and Android .

The new Capcom Fighters Network PC Beta test is now live .

We are headed to WonderCon 2017. Come play some games and win some rad prizes!

——————————

Now for a closer look at more brand specific stories, let’s start with Harrison Young who’s got the latest updates on Street Fighter :

Harrison Young Hey World Warriors, Harrison here to give you a quick recap of the week for Street Fighter! Currently we have a PC Beta to test the New CFN’s online features . This also includes the new balance changes that will be included in an upcoming patch. The FREE PC Beta on Steam will continue until April 3rd at 1pm PDT.

The Street Fighter Team will also be at WonderCon this weekend celebrating the 30th anniversary, including a Street Fighter panel! For those that are at the show, the panel will be on Saturday, April 1st from 2:30-3:30pm in room 300DE and will feature myself (Digital Media Specialist), Phong Tran (Associate Brand Manager), Damon Anderson (eSports Specialist) and Matt Dahlgren (Director of Brand Marketing).

If you are into the competitive side of Street Fighter , make sure to check out Eleague featuring the best Street Fighter V players in the world ! The last day of preliminaries is taking place today, and will feature NuckleDu, Xiao Hai, Phenom, Luffy, Chris Tatarian, Ryan Hart, Li Joe, and LPN!

Also if you’ve been frozen and out of touch for the last couple weeks, here’s a chilly reminder that our new character Kolin has joined the cast!

——————————

Now let’s switch gears and hear from our northern pals at Capcom Vancouver. Jeffery Simpson’s got the scoop on Dead Rising for you:

Jeffery Simpson The Dead Rising community has been drooling over our upcoming Dead Rising 4: Frank Rising release which is swarming onto Xbox One and Windows 10 on Tuesday! A week later on April 11 th Frank West will be taking a bite out of his enemies on Steam. With more great content on the way, we’ll also have an announcement on Monday about how fans can get their hands on the pre-order DLC that they may have missed out on when Dead Rising 4 first launched.

The development team has been hard at work on our newest DLC as well as making improvements to the game based on fan feedback. Tuesday’s update will come with a variety of fixes for issues that unfortunately a small number of users have experienced. The team has also been taking in fan feedback and introducing new features to the game including two new difficulty levels in a previous free update , and free Street Fighter costumes! If you haven’t had a chance to try Dead Rising 4 yet, this is the perfect time to jump in.

Thanks to the team continually working to implement community requested features and the support from the horde of Dead Rising fans around the internet, we’ve recently hit 1,000,000 players in the game . That’s the sort of number that Frank West might call fantastic, and we agree. We’re just getting started and now that the game is on Steam, we can’t wait for what the future holds for the game and our community.

One of the best parts of working here and being part of the Capcom community is seeing all the amazing creations and feats the community pulls off. You all always manage to wow us and we want to celebrate you and your creations.

Let’s start with some Monster Hunter cosplay, which I always find impressive how faithful to the source material cosplayers can get, especially when you consider all the odd shapes and textures of the armor sets.

Mulholland Art here sure loves his Rathalos armor sets, and just wrapped up forging his 3rd set: Silver Rathalos, complete with a matching Hammer!

He also uploaded about 94 other photos and even some progress shots to his Facebook page . Go check it out.

Kellen Haney’s also got some more impressive and fun stuff from around the community to share with you:

Kellen Haney :  Resident Evil games are well-known for their ability to be played time and time again. From the original Resident Evil which offers two different paths with Jill and Chris, to special arranged modes across various titles, to the challenging but remixed Madhouse Mode in Resident Evil 7 biohazard, there’s a lot you can squeeze out of both the classic and modern games in the franchise. Of course, there are challenges that the community comes up with themselves, and one of the better-known challenges is the “Knife Only” run, which is just what it says on the tin.

A speedrunner by the name of Cáelm Bleidd recently completed a “Knife Only” run of RE7 on Madhouse Mode. The run clocks in at just less than 2 hours and 30 minutes, which is still way faster than my first time through the game. Turns out Ethan can do a whole lot with a knife! Speedrun records for a variety of categories continue to be hotly contested, but completing the frantic Madhouse Mode with just a knife is an incredible feat no matter how you slice it!

Little-known fact about me: I like to draw every day. Well-known fact about Mega Man: His name is “Rockman” in Japan. It’s probably both of these things that caused me to gravitate towards the amazing art on display at Daily Rockman , which, appropriately enough, has a new drawing of a character from the Mega Man franchise each day! Their current goal seems to be to draw every character from the classic Mega Man series – and I do mean every character. Here’s Truck Joe, who eagle-eyed fans will recognize as only appearing in Mega Man 7 on Turbo Man’s stage. Maybe he was looking for a less violent alternative to sniping.

Check out the latest at the Daily Rockman tumblr !

——————————

Did you make something cool? Send us a note or drop a comment below; we would love to feature your work here! Same goes for any awesome stuff you may see in the wild; we always welcome more fantastic fan work =)

——————————

Well, that about wraps it up for our first Capcom Recap blog. We would also love to hear feedback from you on this blog series. Feel free to tell us what you like, don’t like or any suggestions you may have so we can continue to improve it over time.

Now back to WonderCon. If you’re attending the show, I’ll see you there. Otherwise, I’ll see again next time!

Capcom at WonderCon 2017

Mar 29, 2017 // Yuri Araujo

Heads up, Capcom fans! We’re on our way to Anaheim, California to set up shop at WonderCon 2017 this weekend. Check out the full list of games and activities below:

First off, you gotta find us. That’s the easy part: our booth is pretty big, and if you have a map of the show floor, just look for #1137.

Now let’s bump up the difficulty a little more: look for the side of the booth that screams ‘90s nostalgia and you’ll see our stylin’ play area for The Disney Afternoon Collection. There, you can play two of the six games featured in the upcoming collection: the original 8-bit DuckTales or Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers (bring a buddy for co-op!) and walk away with the most radical giveaway ever:

Remember, you can also use our nifty Rewind feature to undo any unfortunate missed jumps. Just no blaming the controller, please!

Moving right along, let’s talk about Street Fighter. The renowned fighting game series where you fight other human opponents mano a mano in a battle of endurance, mind games, and lots of smack talk, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year! To celebrate such a momentous achievement, we will be hosting the Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Panel, on Saturday, April 1st (2:30pm – 3:30pm) in Room 300DE. We’ll be talking about the latest news surrounding this year-long celebration as well as updates on current and upcoming games, the Capcom Pro Tour, and more.

Come accept friendly fighting challenges at our booth and go hands-on with the upcoming Ultra Street Fighter II on Nintendo Switch, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Street Fighter V. We recommend spending some time practicing at home with that last one before the show, as we’re hosting tournaments on Saturday and Sunday with some awesome prizes! More details will be available at the booth.

Only one winner per tournament will walk away with one of these.

Speaking of competition, here’s a crazy twist on an already insane experience: throughout each day of the event, we will be collecting players’ scores from our Resident Evil 7 biohazard demo stations, where attendees can try the Nightmare mode fromBanned Footage Vol. 1 DLC. In this mode, players must use their wits and skill to survive a night locked in the basement of the Baker Mansion, unlocking upgrades and blasting the monstrous Molded to earn the high score. The top score of each day will go home with a highly coveted Collector’s Edition of the game! For more details, stop by our booth.

To wrap everything up, the Capcom Store will be featuring a wide selection of T-shirts, collectibles, plushies, and more. I just heard some old favorites will make a return, and if you like Felynes, I’d say… bring a big bag!

WonderCon 2017 starts this Friday, March 31st and goes until Sunday, April 2nd, at the Anaheim Convention Center. Our booth number is #1137 . See you there!

REMINDER-The New CFN PC Beta Test Starts Today!

Mar 28, 2017 // Harrison Young

STEAM PAGE IS NOW UP!

store.steampowered.com/app/593880

Hello again Online World Warriors!

This is a reminder that today marks the beginning of the new Capcom Fighters Network PC Beta Test. Players will be able to help test out the new CFN servers and get a preview of the upcoming Season 2 Balance Updates. For full details on both, check out our previous blogposts here and here . Once again, this new beta test will be limited to Steam users only, but will be completely FREE to play for both current and new players.

Please note, we had previously announced that settings would carryover between Training Mode sessions. This feature is still planned for when the new CFN launches, but will be disabled during the PC Beta. Since the PC beta will only feature online modes, Training Mode will not be testable at this time. We apologize for any confusion. After the jump you will find the full beta schedule.

Several times during the beta test, there will be scheduled server maintenance to ensure everything is running smoothly and so we can apply hotfixes as needed. Capcom Recruiters Q&A: how to get into games

Mar 24, 2017 // Jeffery Simspon

From the outside it might seem like getting into the games industry is a near impossible task. It’s hard to know what to study, what to learn and how to translate your passion for games into a career.

When they’re not helping to bring the best game devs in the world to our studio at Capcom Vancouver Tracey Saretsky (not pictured) and Kevin de Leon (pictured above) help local students with career advice on how to get a job making games.
