Kellen Haney: Hey Mega Fans, Kellen here with another round of what the Mega Man community has been cooking up! This popped up on my radar earlier this week and it was way too good not to share. @ BotEquippedWith on Twitter does exactly what it says on the E-Tank, providing a new weapon for Mega Man to get equipped with every hour. Some of them sound like they could be right out of the games…

While others… not so much.

You never know what you’re going to get equipped with next! A bot tweeting about a bot – who saw that one coming?

——————————

Kellen Haney : Can you survive the horror? Resident Evil Code: Veronica X came out this week on PS4 thanks to the PS2 Classics program, bringing this survival horror gem to a brand new platform. Starring the Redfield siblings, Claire and Chris, the duo must find their way off of Rockfort Island and escape an insidious plot at the hands of Umbrella.

While the original RE Code: Veronica came out in 2000 for the Sega Dreamcast, an enhanced version of the game, RE Code: Veronica X, initially made its way to the PS2 about a year later in 2001. The game holds up quite well visually, if I do say so myself, staying true to the series’ creepy atmosphere and fixed camera angles while delivering fully rendered 3D environments. Interestingly, there were a few changes made to certain cut scenes between the original game and REC:VX , and no, sadly, it wasn’t digitally removing Steve Burnside.

Still, if you somehow missed this gem somewhere along the way, you owe it to yourself to visit (or revisit) Rockfort. This was the first Resident Evil game I owned and finished, so it certainly has a special place in my heart, Steve and all. Hopefully it finds a way into yours as well.

We’re just about two weeks away from the ELEAGUE Street Fighter Vplayoffs with only two slots left to be filled. Check out the tournament live on air this Friday, May 12th at 3pm PT to see who will join Punk, PR Balrog, Fuudo, Momochi, Daigo Umehara and Wolfkrone for the May 26th finals to compete for the grand prize!

——————————

Artist and Monster Hunter fan TRUE JEK ART brings us a series of awesome pieces focusing on the hunters. I love how he favors strong line art and colors over complex lighting and shading.

Check out these and many more on his Tumblr page . Some of the older ones are actually based on his hunting pals, which is just the sweetest thing. :’)

STICKY NOTE: Did you make something cool? Send us a note or drop a comment below; we would love to feature your work here! Same goes for any awesome stuff you may see in the wild; we always welcome more fantastic fan work. =)

That just about wraps up this week. See you again on Tuesday for the Dragon’s Dogma stream!

The Young Commander, Ed, joins Street Fighter V!

May 08, 2017 // Harrison Young

Welcome Shadaloo minions!

We are happy to announce the third Season 2 Street Fighter V character, Ed. As mentioned in our previous blogpost about the next CFN Beta , Ed and all previously released characters will be playable for all beta participants for the duration of the test.

At a young age, Ed was kidnapped and experimented on by S.I.N., a division of Shadaloo, in order to become a replacement body for M. Bison. Many of you might remember a young Ed appearing in Rose’s Street Fighter IV story and Balrog’s story in Super Street Fighter IV. Due to the experiments, Ed’s body ages faster than normal humans until they are old enough to be suited for battle. Since Balrog raised Ed, his fighting is centered on boxing but since he carries M. Bison’s genes, his fighting style is enhanced by Psycho Power.

Ed and Balrog in Super Street Fighter IV

Night after night he is troubled by Bison’s ghost, and struggles desperately to prevent M. Bison from possessing his body. Be sure to check out his character story to find out more!

V-Skill: Psycho Snatcher

Ed releases Psycho Power from his palm, pulling himself or opponents depending on how long he charges it up.

V-Trigger: Psycho Cannon

With a full V-meter, Ed releases an enormous amount of Psycho Power. He can follow alongside it, allowing him to pepper in shots when it connects with the opponent.

Critical Art: Psycho Barrage

Ed lunges forward with a series of punches. If at any point he connects, he’ll continue weaving around the opponent, slipping in quick combinations of Psycho-punches ending with a powerful uppercut.

What makes Ed especially unique is how players perform his special moves. His special moves have simple inputs; they only require simultaneous button presses, repeatedly pressing a button, or holding down a button. Only Ed’s Critical Art is done by inputting a traditional motion.

Also coming alongside Ed are his Story and Premium Battle costumes.

Don’t forget, the Season 2 Character Pass is available for $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99 and will grant pass holders with Akuma, Kolin and Ed in addition to three brand new fighters to be announced later this year. The pass comes with Premium Battle Costumes with colors 3-10 unlocked and default costume colors 3-10 for each character. Additionally, Season 2 Character Pass holders will receive an exclusive PS4 theme!

In the coming weeks, you’ll learn even more about Ed, including his release timing so stay tuned! For the latest updates on Street Fighter V, follow us on  Facebook and  Twitter.

[PAST]

This week we finally wrapped up our mini-series of live streams of all of the games featured in The Disney Afternoon Collection. On Tuesday’s stream we almost finished DuckTales 2, stopping just short of the final boss confrontation… which, by the way is a metallic duck called D-1000. That’s already pretty radical, but it’s even crazier when you see that one of our 90s trivia giveaway questions was about Terminator 2! Unfortunately this realization happened off-camera, but you can watch this stream (and the other recordings) here:

The Disney Afternoon Collection (DuckTales 2)

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero

The Disney Aftetrnoon Collection (Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers 2)

[FUTURE]

All times listed are Pacific Time:

  • Tuesday , May 9th @ 3PM Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen
  • Wednesday , May 10th @ 1PM Dead Rising

Kellen Haney : Heya everyone, Kellen here with an update on everyone’s favorite blue robot, Mega Man! Earlier this week, Super 7, a store based out of San Francisco, announced that they’ll be releasing a new line of M.U.S.C.L.E. (Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere) figures based on – you guessed it – Mega Man!

Now, the initial waves of these figures hit store shelves in the U.S. a little before my time, but you might recognize then name from the spin-off series, Ultimate Muscle, or the NES game, fittingly titled M.U.S.C.L.E. If you want to see what to expect when the Mega Man line goes on sale, check out Super 7’s online store , where they also have Street Fighter M.U.S.C.L.E. figures for sale!

Oh, and for those really curious? Look up “Kinnikuman,” the Japanese manga that these figures were originally based on. Mega Man seems like he’d make a pretty decent wrestler, huh?

——————————

Stephanie Palermo: This week, our friends at Sony Pictures revealed the release date of the new CG movie Resident Evil: Vendetta. It will be available digitally on June 20 and disc on July 18. Details on the bundle of bonus materials included in each version can be found on GameSpot here .

The movie is set in New York City where merchant of death Glenn Arias is spreading a deadly new virus to avenge his wife’s death. Resident Evil series stars Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Rebecca Chambers join forces on a “mission to bring his ass down” – Leon S. Kennedy, 2017 . I can promise motorcycles, a revenge plot, and a giant, hulking B.O.W. groaning Chris Redfield’s name – this is going to be a fun one, guys.

There’s also going to be a limited one-day only theater showing on June 19, so check this link to see if you can get tickets to a show near you!

——————————

Harrison Young : Last weekend was host to DreamHack Austin 2017 and sported a huge amount of talent from all over the world featuring Haitani, Xian, Phenom, Justin Wong, Snake Eyez and more. Even with this huge pool of talent, Punk still managed to come out on top making this his third event in a row! If you missed the event make sure to check out the Top 5 Moments on the Capcom Fighters YouTube Channel:

——————————

Patrick Kulikowski : Well doesn’t this just beat all? On Sunday, April 30th, we saw a bunch of Breath of Fire fans hop onto Twitch ( Alowne_ , BOWIEtheHERO , GinTatsu2 , Kanjo , NeoSlash72 ) and Twitter to take part in the weekly fan campaign known as #BoFSundays . Funny coincidence: it also happened to be Breath of Fire III’s 19th anniversary that day!

It was a stream-heavy Sunday, with RyuQuezacotl finishing his speedrun of Breath of Fire (SNES) in just 5 hours and 24 minutes! You gotta check out this particularly dramatic moment from the run.

eLmaGus tried his hand at claiming the legendary Goo King Sword in Breath of Fire III, and while that sadly didn’t pan out (1 in 256 drop rate, OUCH!), we applaud his effort.

For my contribution this weekend, I madetwo unofficial 1080p desktop wallpapers to celebrate the 19th anniversary of Breath of Fire III. You can “Pilfer” them here and here!

I hope to see more creative awesomeness come out of this hashtag next Sunday!

Okami life-size bust coming from First4Figures early 2018

May 05, 2017 // Yuri Araujo

Beloved goddess turned wolf Amaterasu is getting a life-size bust statue from First4Figures, coming early 2018.

Much like the quest to restore the beauty and life in the land of Nippon, making this high-quality statue was no small task. And if you want one of these to breathe life into your room—while ironically taking the breath away from your guests—orders need to be placed by May 16th.

To give you the background on this project and answer some questions sent in through their Facebook group, the First4Figures crew put together this making-of video:

Capcom Fighters Network Beta 2 Coming to PS4 and PC, May 11 – 14

May 01, 2017 // Harrison Young

We’re continuing to optimize the new and improved Capcom Fighters Network – but we want to ensure things are just right before unleashing it onto the world. To that end, we’re planning to run an additional online Beta Test this month, with the intent of making the official launch of the new CFN as smooth as possible. Both PC and PS4 players will be able to participate in the Beta for FREE from 5/11 to 5/14 PDT – including PC/PS4 cross-play! Even if you don’t have a copy of Street Fighter V you’ll be able to hop in and experience the latest CFN, plus the hefty Season 2 balance changes ( more on those here ).

If that wasn’t enough to get you excited the next DLC character for Season 2 will be available for all beta players during the May 11-14 window. Once the beta ends, however, both this mystery character and any online data (Fight Money, progress, replays etc.) will be gone. For a list of the improvements hit the jump.

Here’s a list of improvements to expect once the CFN Beta goes live:

Rage Quit Penalty System

Back in December, we implemented an update to the Rage Quit System which displayed a special Player Profile Icon for the worst offenders and the most honorable players. These icons are working correctly now and matchmaking logic now takes into account your online behavior and frequent disconnectors will be matched with similar opponents.

Ranked and Casual Match Loading Times

We understand many players were not happy with the load times when entering online matches.   There will now be a shorter transition when going into a Ranked or Casual Match.

Battle Lounge Country Flags

Country flags should now properly load in Battle Lounges, allowing players to locate competition in their region.

Matchmaking Improvements

It should now take less time to find an opponent in online matches. We’ve also added logic which avoids frequently being matched with the same opponent repeatedly.

Fighter Profile Stats

More detailed stats will be tracked and presented on your Fighter Profile.

Country / League Based Rankings

Players will now be able to filter leaderboards based on Country or League.

Friend Management System

In addition to adding a player to your Favorites, you can now add Friends and follow them on CFN. You can now also Blacklist players.

Interactive Timeline

On the CFN home menu, a live feed of your Friends’ activities is presented on an interactive Timeline. Using the Timeline, you can immediately add a recent match to your Replay List, view a Fighter Profile, manage your Friends, and adjust Timeline display settings.

In-Game Announcer Voice

The in-game announcer will give you stats on both you and your opponent using data pulled from the server.

The new CFN server updates mark a new beginning for playing SFV online and we encourage our players to participate in this free PS4 and PC Beta Test. For the latest updates on Street Fighter V, follow us on  Facebook  and  Twitter .

Jeffery Simpson : While the team at Capcom Vancouver are hard at work trimming the putting greens and preparing the fairways in Super Ultra Dead Rising 4 Mini Golf , there was a sneaky little addition for Steam users in Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off The Record this week. We’ve added Steam Trading Cards to both games as an extra bonus for surviving the horror of Fortune City.

The entire Dead Rising franchise is on Steam now, so duct tape some household items together to craft a combo-weapon and join Frank, Chuck and Nick as they take on the zombie apocalypse.

——————————

Kellen Haney : Kellen here, sharing the latest from the mega fans of the Mega Man community! Last week , Stephanie shared a cut of her favorite art from Draw Mega Man Day on April 14th. I’m a little biased and think every day should be Draw Mega Man Day, but people’s love of the Blue Bomber results in fan creations of all types, such as this incredible Mega Man cosplay by Clay Stooshnoff ( @atomickings )!

It’s always fun to see how people translate Mega Man’s distinct and instantly recognizable design into the real world. Rock on, Clay!

——————————

Patrick Kulikowski : What’s up Breath of Fire fans!? Patrick here, with a special hot new announcement regarding a community-organized fan campaign called #BoFSundays !

Spearheaded by Twitch streamer and speedrunner BOWIEtheHERO with support from the Breath of Fire Facebook / Twitter fan page, BoF fans are encouraged to celebrate Capcom’s JRPG classics every Sunday by way of Twitch playthroughs/speedruns, as well as sharing fan art, swag, game collections, and/or other creative projects on Twitter using hashtag #BoFSundays .

Moving forward, you’ll definitely see me throwing up a couple BoF- related GIFs on Twitter each Sunday. Hope to see lots of participation; I’m itching with hot, fiery anticipation to fill this space with BoF goodness in the future. J

  • eLmaGus Breath of Fire II and/or Breath of Fire III speedruns;
  • Zheal Breath of Fire III speedruns;
  • BOWIEtheHERO Breath of Fire IV speedruns every Sunday;
  • DavidK519 Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter speedruns.

Yuri Araujo : On April 22nd, fan group “The Guild Hall” hosted their own Monster Hunter Generations community gathering in Portland, OR, with lots of hunting, giveaways, and a number of local Twitch streamers ( ReallyPointy , BitWits , Shinomei , Syit , RamenKing1 ); and Kogath made a special appearance! The Disney Afternoon Collection Gallery Spotlight: Original Artwork

Apr 27, 2017 // Yuri Araujo

We’ve seen how sketches became sprites, and some vintage scans of original box artwork . Now let’s take a closer look at original artwork created specifically to go with these 8-bit classics.

When it comes to game related artwork, one of my favorite categories is concept art—and just writing this, I finally realize the reason I own several game artbooks. I just love looking at the different design ideas for each character, enemy designs, color palettes, sceneries, etc. It always feels like I’m diving into the mind of the artists and seeing what they’re seeing when the graphics get rendered on screen.

This to me is particularly interesting when it comes to 8-bit (and 16-bit) games, given the visual gap between concepts and sprites, and even more so when it comes to beloved existing characters. Now it feels like the roles are slightly reversed. The concept that once was used to inform how we look at the game is now being informed by our knowledge of the game itself. Okay, before I lose you in these mental gymnastics, take a look at this DuckTales example:

If you just look at it outside of the context of the game, it could be a still from the cartoon or a panel from the comics, right? The thing is: I can’t recall ever seeing or hearing about Uncle Scrooge using his signature pogo jump moves outside the game. To be fair, I haven’t seen everything DuckTales, but even after some time on Google, I was unable to find evidence of the pogo jump’s appearance anywhere else.

So now we dig back through 90s gaming memories, apply those to the art pieces here, and it all starts to make a little more sense: the cartoons and comics inspired the game, which then inspired the artwork here. It’s quite an interesting take on game concept art, and one I’m very glad exists. The gallery mode in The Disney Afternoon Collection features lots more of these, so if you want to see more, you know where to find them. In the meantime, here’s another great example from Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers:

The Disney Afternoon Collection is available now on PC , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One .

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite – Gameplay Trailer #2 is here!

Apr 27, 2017 // Harrison Young

Load up your quivers and hand cannons, as the new Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite gameplay trailer is here!  Watch Ultron battle it out with iconic Marvel and Capcom characters, including Chun-Li, Hulk, Strider Hiryu, Thor, Chris Redfield and Hawkeye after the jump.

Ultron makes his first appearance in the Marvel vs. Capcom series and brings with him a sinister set of attacks to dispatch his foes. Most notable, is the ability to summon an endless army of drone reinforcements to aid him in battle. He can summon these both on the ground and in the air. The drones also come in two flavors, one stays back assisting Ultron with a beam to cover him with the second version charging forward and smashing his opponent with a powerful blast of energy.

The new gameplay trailer also features the introduction of the Space Stone. Using the Space Stone’s Infinity Surge will alter your opponent, dragging them towards you. Activating the Space Stone’s Infinity Storm will encase your opponent inside a prism for a short period of time, giving you the space to plan your next attack more easily.

The other Marvel and Capcom fighters have also powered up since their last battle, including additional special and super attacks to help them in their fight against Ultron Sigma. Hulk is armed with his new Gamma Crush attack that creates a vicious volcano and Strider Hiryu’s new air super gives him the ability to slash his opponents from anywhere on the screen.

For those looking for Rocket Raccoon, never fear, we’ll be releasing more on him soon and showing off his arsenal of moves at a later date.

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite makes its way to a universe near you September 19 th , 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. For pre-order details and information on how to play as your favorite Marvel and Capcom characters, be sure to check our previous blog, which featured our new Story Mode trailer.
