Experience Mega Man 2’s boss theme in a new and relaxing way

Oct 04, 2017 // Kellen Haney

There are times where we could all use a little soothing music to help drift off to sleep after a busy day. Fortunately, Prescription for Sleep: Fight for Your Dreams is just what Dr. Light ordered, featuring relaxing renditions of familiar boss and battle tunes from various video games to take that edge off and help you get a good night’s rest. Read on for a clip featuring the “Boss” track of Mega Man 2 like you’ve never heard it before, and for more info on where to pre-order the full album of re-imagined video game tunes presented by Scarlet Moon Records .

Arranged, performed, and recorded by GENTLE LOVE, the appropriately-named “Boss” track from Mega Man 2 flips the tone of this iconic 8-bit track that symbolizes Mega Man’s high-octane battles into a serene melody that puts you at ease with an elegant saxophone and piano arrangement. If you enjoyed what you heard in the clip above, you’ll be happy to know the twelve track album is coming soon – you can pre-order it on BandCamp ahead of the album’s release on October 10 th.

Norihiko Hibino, who plays the saxophone for GENTLE LOVE, has some insight into the track as well. “We were inspired greatly by Steve Reich’s music, as this minimal and repetitive approach perhaps creates a feeling of ‘Justice for humanity towards robots.’” Long-time fans may recognize this as a long-running theme throughout the Mega Man series, and you’re sure to enjoy the full track when it makes its debut on the 10 th.

Look no further than Mega Man Legacy Collection to experience the original tune, made to get you pumped up as you take down Robot Masters in Mega Man 2! For more info and additional albums in the Prescription for Sleep series, be sure to check out Scarlet Moon Records . Fight on, Mega Man – for everlasting peace, and for sweet dreams.

Black Panther and Sigma Gameplay Trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Oct 04, 2017 // Andy Wong

Sharpen your claws and upgrade your circuits! The gameplay trailer for Black Panther and Sigma has arrived for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite! Both characters join the fight with Monster Hunter on October 17 along with each of their premium costumes. All three will also be playable at New York Comic Con 2017!

When his father was murdered, T’Challa stepped forward to earn the mantle of the Black Panther, ruler of the technologically-advanced African nation of Wakanda. With his genius intellect, unrivaled combat expertise, and strong sense of justice, he rules over the newly-formed “Valkanda” and serves as its guild master now that his kingdom has merged with Val Habar, a desert town known for its monster hunters.

Black Panther is a melee fighter who utilizes quick slashes with his claws to win the fight. T’Challa can also cling to walls as well as jump from one to another in a matter of moments, allowing him to escape pressure, but to also pounce on an opponent from multiple angles.

Sigma was the first and most powerful reploid created by reverse-engineering X. Sigma once protected humanity against Mavericks (reploids who malfunctioned and became a threat to humanity) until the fateful day when Zero’s stasis pod was unearthed. Zero awakened in an out-of-control state, infected with a mysterious virus, but Sigma did not. Corrupted, Sigma became the instigator of numerous Maverick uprisings. Now Sigma and his virus are one with Ultron Sigma, a being whose hatred towards humanity is limitless.

Using his energy sword, Sigma is able to control the battle by opening up dimensional rifts that linger around the screen, hindering his opponent’s movement options. Armed with a command grab and a counter teleport, he has options to deal with overly aggressive teams that may try to take advantage of his slower but imposing move set.

Everyone who obtained the 2017 Character Pass will automatically get Black Panther, Sigma, Monster Hunter, Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and Venom when they become available. You can also purchase these characters separately for $7.99 each, which includes their premium costumes as seen below.

We also have premium costumes for the full roster coming soon. Stay tuned for more information!

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC!

Breath of Fire III soundtrack gets jazzed up by Materia Collective

Oct 03, 2017 // Patrick Kulikowski

The jazzy soundtrack of Breath of Fire III remains one of my favorite RPG scores out there, and the talented folks at Materia Collective just spiced things up even further with a newly released remix album !

Breath of Fire III (Remastered Tracks) is a 14-track arranged album whipped up by Materia Collective’s Sean Schafianski , who, together with performers Matthew K. Mukerjee, Marc Papeghin, Wilbert Roget, II, Felipe Salinas, Mikutan, and Tiago Rodrigues, pay homage to the delightfully fresh tunes originally composed by Capcom alumni Akari Kaida and Yoshino Aoki.

From arranger Sean Schafianski:

“This album holds a very special place in my heart, as it is one of the first PlayStation RPGs that I played as a child, and the jazzy, upbeat soundtrack stuck with me ever since. I hope that listeners will feel the same energy, joy, and nostalgia that I did while revisiting this amazing soundtrack.”

The album is now available on Bandcamp , iTunes , Spotify , and Google Play Store , so grab it and give it a whirl! It’s also worth mentioning that we released the soundtrack for Breath of Fire III as part of the Breath of Fire I ~ III Original Soundtrack Collectionon the Capcom Store just last year !

You can also relive all those tender moments with Ryu, Teepo, Rei, Nina, Momo, Peco, and Garr on-the-go, as Breath of Fire III can be purchased on PlayStation Store for your PlayStation Vita, PSTV, and PSP. Get those zenny pouches ready.

Here’s a tracklist breakdown of the album, along with streaming samples of the game’s bass-groovy battle theme and an absolutely beautiful vocal rendition of the game’s credits theme, “Pure Again”, to get you pumped:

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen now available on PS4 and Xbox One

Oct 03, 2017 // Yuri Araujo

Get ready to have your heart stolen by the magnificent dragon Grigori once more. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is now available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Those of you who already journeyed through Gransys and reclaimed your heart from the dragon, back when the game first launched in 2012, will know exactly what to expect here. This is the complete Dragon’s Dogma experience, including all the content and updates added in the Dark Arisen expansion.

But if you’re a brand new Arisen… welcome! Here’s a quick summary of the game:

Story Setting

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is an awesome Action RPG set in an expansive open world where you get to create your own character, the Arisen, and set out on an epic quest to fight the dragon Grigori, who quite literally steals your heart. It is up to you to prevent the destruction of the world.

Gameplay

Game direction comes from the hands of renowned Devil May Cry series director Hideaki Itsuno who managed to combine the deep customizability of fantasy RPGs with incredibly satisfying combat mechanics, and topped it all off with an innovative party management system that lets you create and share AI-controlled controlled characters with other players across the globe.

PS4 & Xbox One features

As we bring this beloved Action RPG to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, our development team took great care to keep the core game intact, and, for a smooth combat experience, we locked the framerate at 30FPS. The game runs at a higher resolution on PlayStation 4 Pro and can be upscaled to 4K resolution. Here is a video comparing the new PS4 version with the original PS3 release:

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is available now on PS4 and Xbox One for $29.99.

Hello Capcom-Unity, I’m Michael Martin.

Sep 29, 2017 // Michael Martin

Hello, everyone. I’m Michael Martin, the new Esports Social Media Manager at Capcom.

Twenty-six years ago, when I dropped that first handful of quarters into the Street Fighter II cabinet, I had no idea what I’d be doing over two decades later. I’ve played a lot of fighting games during that time, but Street Fighter has always been the most important and influential to me. That’s why it feels so surreal to be here in San Francisco, talking to you about Capcom’s fighting games and the Capcom Pro Tour.

If you’re familiar with me, you know I’ve made a little career out of talking about fighting games. I started out freelance writing for various media outlets like IGN and GamesRadar+. As esports media grew, I dug into my little niche and covered competitive Street Fighter and the Capcom Pro Tour for Red Bull Esports. I got to do a lot of cool things, like talk to many players I admired and travel to various events. I went to my first Evo back in 2015, where I was lucky enough to meet Ono-san for the first time.

That work caught the eye of Yahoo Esports when it launched in 2016. There, I got to cover the Capcom Pro Tour as it transitioned over to Street Fighter V. I also got more involved in video production at Yahoo, something I’d wanted to do for a long time. Some of my favorite interviews include talking with LI Joe and his dad at Evo 2016 during LI Joe’s unlikely top 8 run and going to Singapore for SEAM 2016, where I got to hang out with Xian and take in some of Singapore’s culture.

So when it came time and Capcom opened up a position in its esports division, it seemed like a natural fit. I will continue to create content, such as doing a weekly video series called ‘Wake Up Wednesdays,’ where we recap the previous weekend’s tournaments and discuss notable topics for the week. The show will continue to evolve, eventually adding player interviews.

Obviously, the social media part of the job will be running the Capcom Fighters social network. But I’ll also take an active role engaging with the community. My goal is to build on the relationship with the community so we can continue developing a high quality CPT experience for everyone involved. I should mention though that I am not on the dev team and any topics related to the development of our fighting games is mostly out of my jurisdiction.

This is an exciting time as we get closer to Capcom Cup 2017. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @CapcomFighters and @Bizarro_Mike . Thank you and I look forward to speaking and working with all of you!

Fan Requested Improvements Coming to Dead Rising 4

Sep 28, 2017 // Jeffery Simspon

The fans have always been an important part of the Dead Rising series. From video Let’s Plays, to cosplayers becoming Frank West, to the players who share all of their feedback, our fans are a big part of what makes working on the series so much fun. All fans have things they’d like to see improved in their favorite games and we’ve been listening to our loyal Dead Rising fan base and have been making improvements to Dead Rising 4 that will result in the game being even better than before.

One important example was with the difficulty level of the game. The Dead Rising series is associated with a high degree of difficulty and many players felt that we let up on that a little too much in Dead Rising 4. Listening to that feedback, the development team at Capcom Vancouver added two harder difficulty modes as a free update to the game the month after launch.

As we began work on the upcoming release of Dead Rising 4: Frank’s Big Package for the PlayStation 4, our team took a look at some of the other reoccurring feedback from our players and got to work. We’re happy to share many of the new improvements that Dead Rising 4 players can look forward to.

Human Enemy Improvements

Maniacs are human enemies that Frank encounters during the course of his investigation into what’s happening in Willamette. The development team has spent time making these encounters feel more meaningful and rewarding. Maniacs will have new weapons that suit their character and Frank’s reward for defeating a Maniac will be wielding the new weapon. The AI that drives the Maniacs is also being improved to provide players with an even greater challenge.

Some of the Maniacs will also have new Maniac Minions who will attack Frank, making these fights more difficult. Human enemy AI is being improved for all types, making them better at using cover, blocking attacks with shields, and countering players who might rely on a single attack.

Distress Calls

While Dead Rising 4 always had human survivors in need of Frank West’s help, the development team is adding six memorable side missions that we’re calling Distress Calls. During Frank’s time in Willamette, he will have the opportunity to answer these Distress Calls and aid a survivor in a newly scripted mission, carrying out a quest for the survivor. Once he’s accomplished the assigned task, Frank will have to protect the survivor from the zombie hordes as they make their way to a safe location.

Each of these six all-new Distress Call missions will give players a unique variation on one of Frank’s outfits as a reward.

Other

The team is also looking at additional ways to improve the overall gameplay experience. These include improved controller responsiveness, faster attack speed, faster zombie horde awareness, more aggressive pursuit, rebalanced weapon distribution, improved zombie AI, mission tuning and more.

All owners of Dead Rising 4 will be receiving these gameplay improvements for free on December 5 th along with the new game mode, Capcom Heroes. Dead Rising 4: Frank’s Big Package will be coming to the PlayStation 4 on December 5 th and will be including these updates, Capcom Heroes and all previously released game content. It’s an update that’s not only going to give you something new to play in Dead Rising 4, but will also improve your experience playing it.

We are exceptionally grateful for all of the support and feedback that our fans have given us since Dead Rising 4 released, and throughout more than a decade zombie smashing action. So grab an orange juice and a Blambow and keep it coming!

Watch All 30 Character Tutorial Videos for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite!

Sep 26, 2017 // Andy Wong

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite has finally launched! In order to help everyone get acquainted with the game, we’ve created 30 tutorial videos highlighting each character’s special moves, Hyper Combos, and Infinity Stone synergy. All 30 of them have now been published and can be watched on our official website or on the playlist above. If you’re not up to the task of sifting through 30 videos, we’ve chosen a few samples below from a variety of characters representing different playstyles.

Rocket Raccoon – If you like toying with traps, Rocket is your raccoon! Able to quickly set up traps, including one for a Hyper Combo, opponents will need to watch their step before falling victim to Rocket’s mischievous plans. Groot has also decided to come along for the fight to offer ground and aerial support when called upon. The Time Stone is perfect for setting your opponent up so they end up triggering a well-placed trap.

Jedah – Hailing from the Darkstalkers series, Jedah glides into battle with a flurry of blades to match his tricky playstyle. His Spirale Divina projectile is perfect for controlling space as it stays stationary on the screen, increasing Jedah’s pressure game. Jedah’s dashes are one of his most devious tools as he’s able to cancel his back and forward versions into another, allowing him to approach at peculiar angles. Choosing the Reality Stone enables Jedah’s air movement to be safe, further improving his ability to find the hit on his opponent.

Thanos – The Mad Titan is an imposing force with a multitude of defensive options and combo extenders. Titan’s Shield and Emperor’s Stance allow Thanos to have a counter for projectiles and incoming melee attacks alike. Though he comes with a teleport and air dash to improve his movement, activating the Time Stone’s Infinity Storm can further enable Thanos’ terrifying strength with his high-damage combos.

Dante – The half-demon son of Sparda, Dante’s delivers more than just style to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Boasting the most special moves in the game, creativity is vital when choosing Dante as the demon hunter can effectively zone out opponents while unleashing an astonishing amount of combo hits. Choosing who to pair him up with may either be the most or least difficult decision depending on your own playstyle. The Space Stone’s Infinity Storm allows Dante to take more risks to open up his opponent.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Purchase the 2017 Character Pass to unlock Sigma, Black Panther, Monster Hunter, Winter Soldier, Venom, and Black Widow when they’re ready to join the battle later this year.

Patrick Kulikowski: We at Capcom USA adore internet memes as much as everyone else, as silly and corny as some of them might be. Last week, a classic meme dubbed “elf on a shelf” resurfaced on the internet, and naturally places like Twitter were showered with some clever takes.

The basic format for the meme goes as such:

“You’ve heard of elf on a shelf, now get ready for _____ on a _____”.

The blanks have to be something that rhymes. Naturally, some clever Capcom fans have taken it upon themselves to drop some funny Capcom-oriented elf on a shelf memes on Twitter. Here are some of the amusing ones we’ve found; we’ll let you figure the images out.

I now eagerly await some of your own in the comments!
