Introducing Laura Matsuda to Street Fighter V!

Oct 08, 2015 // ComboFiend

Another new character enters the fray. Announced moments ago at Brasil Game Show, allow me to introduce the latest addition to Street Fighter V: Laura Matsuda! Fighting out of Brazil (home of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu), Laura specializes in Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu, a first for the Street Fighter series.

Continue on to learn a little more about Laura.

As the next heir of the famed Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu fighting style, Laura is constantly looking for strong opponents around the world to defeat, in an effort to spread the Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu’s name and prestige. Generally a happy and outgoing spirit, Laura finds she is the most content and most focused in the heat of battle.

Laura’s methodical grapple style and quick movement will make her a favorite for those who like to specialize in “up close and personal” mind games. Using a variety of quick moving attacks and command grabs, opponents will have to always to be on guard to stop Laura from overwhelming them quickly.

Laura is also the first grappler in the Street Fighter series to ever have a projectile! This really changes up how she approaches her opponent and how opponents can approach her.

V-Skill: Linear Movement

By holding either back or forward and pressing medium punch + medium kick, Laura moves in the corresponding direction, getting her in and out of the opponent’s range at will. If no direction is held during the V-Skill activation, she will perform an overhead kick.

V-Trigger: Spark Show

Laura gets ready to zap the competition when she activates Spark Show. During her electrifying state, Laura’s Thunder Clap projectile flies further, she deals more stun on her attacks and grabs, and moves around further during her Linear Movements.

With Laura being our third brand new character, representing a brand new fighting style, you never know who’ll make it into Street Fighter V. Which fighting style do you think will be the next addition to Street Fighter V? Stay tuned and talk to you guys next time!

Street Fighter V Beta #2 details

Oct 07, 2015 // ComboFiend

Hey everyone, I come bearing titillating details on our second Street Fighter V global beta coming your way on October 22 nd and running through October 25 th(dates subject to change, exact times to be specified later). There are a lot of things we plan to test over the four days the beta is live, most importantly, cross-platform play between PC users and PS4 users!

Continue on for more information.

Before we get into the nitty gritty details, I would like to first and foremost reiterate that this is a beta, and as such, users may experienceissues. It’s these issues, however, that provide Capcom with valuable information to ensure that Street Fighter V is as optimized as possible upon final release, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Now that we got that out of the way, on to what you can expect to see in this global beta.

PC Play

We’re opening up beta access to PC users for the first time. Please check the minimum specs post here to make sure that your PC is able to run SFV properly. Although the minimum specs will allow you to run SFV on your PC, the recommended specs will ensure you have an optimal SFV experience. PC users gain access to the beta starting October 24 th.

PS4 to PC Cross-Platform Play

We will be testing out PS4 to PC cross-platform play functionality on October 24 th and 25 th . This is a first for us and we are very excited for players across both platforms to finally have a chance to battle one another. Make sure to bring your best strategies as the number of people that you can fight against will be that much larger this time around.

Characters

Since the last beta, we’ve announced quite a few new characters and I’m pleased to confirm that they will be selectable during the beta. When the beta launches, Ken, Necalli, Vega and R. Mika will be selectable. As we’re still reviewing our content delivery system, Rashid will be added in on day two (October 23 rd ) and Karin added on day three (October 24 th ). The characters from the previous beta: Ryu, Chun-Li, Cammy, Birdie, Nash and M. Bison will not be selectable this time around.

Ranked Matchmaking

Do you desire to only play the strongest around? Well, ranked matchmaking will definitely be the way to go. Players will be automatically paired with someone of equal skill, with pairings becoming more difficult the better one performs. GET HYPE!

Combined Leaderboards

We will be keeping track of the beta’s cream of the crop through our leaderboards. This is the perfect time to show everyone (PC and PS4 users) that you’re the best around as your name shines brightly above the others.

Player Search

Interested in seeing what strategies the top players on the leaderboard are employing? Well, with the implementation of player search functionality, you can see what they’re doing and also check out their fighter profile.

Fight Money Unlockables

During the last beta, many players accumulated a lot of Fight Money, which they weren’t able to use. This changes as we’re testing out the ability to unlock items through fight money. Players can look forward to unlocking titles and maybe even the Kanzuki Estate stage.

Oh and just so we’re all on the same page, all things acquired (Fight Money, leaderboard status, titles) will only be available during this beta and will not carry over onto the next beta nor onto final release.  The Fight Money pricing of items available to unlock and the rate that Fight Money is obtained are both still placeholder, and will not be indicative of the final product.

New Umbrella Corps gameplay video pits the dev team against itself

Oct 07, 2015 // Minish Capcom

Curious to see how a typical match of Umbrella Corps plays out? Today we have a video straight from the team in Japan that walks you through not just a few rounds, but also takes some time to show off the game’s unique weapons and tactics. The chargeable brainer axe, zombie jammer and the zombies themselves all factor into the game’s fast-paced matches, resulting in battles that can quickly go south if you’re not on your toes.

Like we said back in September, the match type is “One Life,” so when you’re down, you’re down until the next round. Watch your head, your zombie jammer and your back! Take it away, Matt & Mike…

There’s a fair amount to digest there, from the shield (that protects against headshots when you switch to your pistol) to the crisscrossing, compacted level design that keeps the players in each others’ faces.

We also have a fancy live-action trailer that helped kick off the game’s presentation at the Tokyo Game Show earlier this year. It was shot on location at Universal Studios Japan and features a number of Umbrella toughs skulking around a facility.

If you’re heading out to New York Comic-Con this weekend, you can actually play Umbrella Corps months before it releases! Come by Booth 1420 for it, SFV, RE0 and MMLC!

Incredible Pink Rathian cosplay focuses on monster itself, not armor set!

Oct 01, 2015 // Yuri Araujo

It’s not every day that we see a  Monster Hunter cosplay of a monster, and not of a hunter, but every time I’ve seen it, it’s been amazing – and this one by Sea Of Rabbitz is no exception!

The first few monster cosplays I’ve seen, including this  Brachydios at  Anime Expo , were all attempting a full representation of the monster itself – and they did a fantastic job – but there’s something about Sea Of Rabbitz’s half-monster, half-human approach to this cosplay that I really like.

In the title of her DeviantArt upload , she referenced this as  gijinka  cosplay, which got me to research the term and find out it’s a type of anthropomorphism. Now I have another search word to use when looking for more fan work. =]

Also on her DA page, she also wrote this cosplay was actually inspired by this fan art piece by AlexiusSana :

I love seeing stuff like this: one fan’s work inspiring other fan’s – the true spirit of community.

Zangief Piledrives His Way Into SFV!

Oct 01, 2015 // ComboFiend

Hey everyone, some big news was shared moments ago at the IgoMir event in Russia! The “red cyclone” will be making his way into Street Fighter V !!

A popular mainstay within Street Fighter, Zangief is the most prominent wrestler within the series. Zangief has made appearances in Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha II and III,and Street Fighter IV, all the while fighting for “Mother Russia.”

When it comes to raw strength, not many in the world can compete with Zangief. Training day and night, Zangief believes that the only way to victory is to have a body complete with perfect muscles. Due to his intense training, which includes wrestling bears, Zangief can lift the heaviest opponents with ease!

In SFV , Zangief shows off the results of his training through his newfound V-Skill, Iron Muscle and new V-Trigger, Cyclone Lariat. These two skills are just the tip of the iceberg however, as Zangief has even more new tactics in store for the world warriors this time around.

V-Skill: Iron Muscle

Zangief shows the true power of his body when he activates Iron Muscle. During Iron Muscle, Zangief can absorb one attack, which leaves him with recoverable health. If players hold down medium punch and medium kick and then press a direction on the joystick, Zangief will begin to slowly close in on the opponent. Upon release from the walk, Zangief flexes his muscles and hits the opponent if close enough.

V-Trigger: Cyclone Lariat

Zangief lives up to his name “the red cyclone” as he spins with high speed and velocity, pulling the opponent in close. If the player taps the V-Trigger activation buttons, Zangief will quickly spin and pull in the opponent. If the player holds the V-Trigger activation buttons, Zangief will continue to spin and hit the opponent multiple times.

And that ladies and gentlemen, wraps up Zangief. With only three characters left to reveal, you’ll want to be sure to check back in frequently to see who makes it into the next announcement. Who do you think will be next?

Mega Man Legends available now on North American PlayStation Store

Sep 29, 2015 // GregaMan

It came to North American game store shelves in August of 1998. Or perhaps it merely crept up on you at the pawn shop or used book store sometime thereafter. Mega Man Legends?”you reacted, laying eyes upon it for the first time. You noticed his fancy new 3D modeling, his altered dimensions, his new hairdo. “That’s not Mega Man,” perhaps you said. “But I guess I’ll check it out. If I have to.”

That night, you missed your bedtime. You were too busy diggin’ out ruins, junkin’ scrap, buildin’ guns, kickin’ Servbots, kickin’ cans, jettin’ boots, and obliterating some of the most massive and colorful video game bosses you’d ever seen. Such action! Such drama! Such mystery! And all punctuated by the sweet, calming dance of a wise, iron diaper-clad monkey.

And so it was that this rogue deviation from a well-established institution quickly burrowed its way into your heart like the proverbial ruin-digging Digger, becoming one of your most beloved gaming experiences and filling you with optimism for the 3D age. Still, over the years we tend to lose track of our possessions. Perhaps you traded in your copy of Mega Man Legends one day when some hot new title or hardware released. Years later, as new became old again and the timeless classics—Legends among them—naturally floated back to the brim of your consciousness, distinguishing themselves from yesterday’s chaff, perhaps you came to regret that decision. Perhaps you tried to reobtain the game second-hand, only to discover its value had—deservedly, but considerably—appreciated. Perhaps you took the dive and bought it anyway. Perhaps you didn’t.

Either way, may today be seen as a fitting occasion to relive that magic, whether it’s by dusting off your old disc, or by purchasing the game today from its new home on the North American PlayStation Store . Ten bucks, and it works on your PS3 and Vita. Go! Relive! Enjoy! Reminisce! And may it be everything you remembered and more.
