New faces joining the Capcom Unity team – Introducing Kellen and Harrison

Nov 11, 2015 // Yuri Araujo

Hey everyone, it is my pleasure to introduce to you two new team members that will be joining the Capcom Unity team; so before you read the next Mega Man or Resident Evil post and think to yourself “who hijacked the Unity blog!?”, please take a quick second and meet the new guys: Kellen and Harrison !

First off, you should know that these guys have actually been working here at Capcom for quite some time now! Kellen, for example, has been helping us out on the customer service front, while Harrison has been assisting with video editing and streaming (mostly) behind the scenes! All that is to say that they kinda know you a little bit already, but here’s a little blurb from each of them so you get to know what they’re all about:

Kellen Haney :

Hey everyone! As Yuri already said up there, I come from the customer service side of things, and while I’ve already been working with this team for quite a while, it’s a real privilege to join the community team here at Capcom. Capcom games have been a big part of my life since childhood, and from the first time I played Ghosts n’ Goblins at the local roller skate rink as a little kid, I knew I was hooked to that unique feel that Capcom games always bring. That’s a story for another time though! I’ve found a lot to love from Capcom over the years, from classics like Forgotten Worlds (which hopefully isn’t a forgotten game ), Mercs, and, of course, Mega Man, to modern masterpieces like Okami, God Hand, Dead Rising, and my personal favorites, the Ace Attorney series. You’ll be seeing a lot more from me in the future, so keep an eye out!

Harrison Young :

Hey guys, wanted to take the time and introduce myself to the people who might not have seen me around yet. I started playing Street Fighter back in ‘09 and played competitively. During that time I also helped run tournaments to grow our local scene at Starbase Arcade in northern California. While I enjoyed competing, being behind the scenes was more of what I wanted to do so I put full focus on producing live events. After running my own events for a while and helping others with their own, I was asked to work at the Street Fighter 25th anniversary tournament. This led to working with Capcom at Capcom Cup and various other events which eventually resulted in joining Capcom officially earlier this year. I’m excited to be helping give you the updates for Resident Evil and other projects. Even though Street Fighter has been so important to me the last few years, Resident Evil 4 is one of my favorite games off all time and I’m glad to be part of a franchise and company that has always been such a big part of my life!

Of course, you can still expect to see me covering all things Monster Hunter as well as Combofiend and Haunts taking care of all the hot Street Fighter news. One change to note, however, is that GregaMan is actually now directly helping out with development here. So while he may be a little quieter on the blog fronts, he’s still around and now has his hands busy on some really exciting stuff! Rest assured that you will still see him from time to time as I’ll definitely be snatching him away for a live stream or two! 😉

Anyways, bringing Kellen and Harrison to the team is just the first step, so please take a moment to say “hi” and make them feel at home. We actually have some really cool changes coming up on the Unity front for the coming months; so stay tuned. =)

Street Fighter V Character Theme Previews

Nov 04, 2015 // ComboFiend

One of the key components of what makes a game or its characters memorable is its music. As we all know, the character themes established throughout the various Street Fighter titles have been regarded as classics by Street Fighter fans and music fans alike. Today I’d like to give you all a preview of some of the character themes that we are working on for Street Fighter V.

Many of these songs are extremely iconic and we’ve done our best to remix them and update them for a new generation to enjoy. Without further ado, here they are!

Vega

www.capcom.co.jp/sfv/bgm/006.html

  • The guitars and violins really bring out the passion in this tune.

Birdie

www.capcom.co.jp/sfv/bgm/007.html

  • The lighter tune goes with Birdie’s more goofy personality this time around.

Cammy

www.capcom.co.jp/sfv/bgm/008.html

  • A modern take on a classic theme.

Chun-Li

www.capcom.co.jp/sfv/bgm/009.html

  • I feel like training in some misty mountains after hearing this.

Karin

www.capcom.co.jp/sfv/bgm/010.html

  • This version sounds like it could be played at the party in Karin’s stage.

Mika

www.capcom.co.jp/sfv/bgm/011.html

  • I can totally see Mika coming down to the ring with this song playing.

Necalli

www.capcom.co.jp/sfv/bgm/012.html

  • A grand theme for a grand warrior! Easily my favorite.

Rashid

www.capcom.co.jp/sfv/bgm/013.html

  • This song is as fast and fun as Rashid is!

What did you all think? Which one’s your favorite? Look forward to hearing more songs from the game as we get close to the Feb 16 release date!

Preorder Resident Evil Origins Collection, play dress-up

Nov 03, 2015 // GregaMan

If you’re looking forward to the gorgeous remastering of Resident Evil 0 due out early next year, you are probably also aware that we are coming out with Resident Evil Origins Collection, which collects that game along with this year’s remastering of Resident Evil in one slick, disc-based package for PS4 or Xbox One.

The package is perfect for folks who want a physical disc and a case on their shelf, and will only run you $39.99 when it releases beginning January 19th.

What you may not have known is that you can preorder Origins Collection right now (we’ll have more information on the digital version of RE0 coming soon), and doing so will give you access to a delightful pair of bonus costumes for Rebecca and Billy in RE0. Hit the jump to see!

Billy may be an escaped convict, but you can still dress him up like a prisoner! This prisoner garb is also a throwback to that worn by longtime Capcom brawler Cody in his various Street Fighter appearances. Remember to yell “HAH-hah!” every time you use the knife.

Rebecca, ever the caretaker, will get this simply  precious nurse’s gown. Equal parts functional and adorable.

This outfit was also featured in RE The Mercenaries 3D.

Intrigued? You can preorder the game now at:

Farewell, Capcom Unity

Oct 29, 2015 // Minish Capcom

If 1980s Brelston knew he would one day work at Capcom… well, he’d probably freak out. And that’s kinda what I did when I found out I’d be joining the team back in 2011. Capcom was a constant force in my youth, providing countless unforgettable characters, battles, music and art, plus acting as the ice-breaker for several lifelong friendships. Truly, it’s a company that is hard to separate from who I am today. Actually… thanks to my Minish Cap tattoo, I mean that literally!

But life goes on and we all feel the need to grow, change and try other things. So this is my last week at Capcom, with my last day being 10/30. It’s a hard spot to walk away from, for sure. The past four years have given me a profoundly more detailed view of the games industry, from social media & marketing all the way to actual R&D. This knowledge and experience alone would’ve been worth the time spent here, but I also learned a few other lifelong lessons:

1 – I thought I knew a lot about Capcom worlds and lore. By some measure, I do. But you guys put my knowledge to shame and helped me better appreciate the nuances and density of our universes.

2 – Monster Hunter rules, and I was so very wrong about it prior to working here. Hunting Horn for life.

3 – Game development is simultaneously way more complex and way simpler than you’d ever believe.

4 – People get upset because they care. While the words may read harsh, someone on the other end just wants to be heard. Even if a dozen ranting messages make me want to shut down, there’s a core passion that can’t be ignored and should be communicated up the chain.

5 – Conversely, please realize there’s a human on the other side of the nearly infinite blogs, social accounts and phone lines out there. This is important not just as someone on the receiving end, but also as someone who can get upset and occasionally chew out the wrong person 😛

6 – I was also wrong about Battle Network. Turns out it’s better to experience things before passing judgment!

Looking back at Unity itself, there were some great moments I’ll take with me. The Mega Man 10 speedrun contest was a blast, with some amazing back-and-forth times posted on a daily basis. The Okami’s Creed video was one of the silliest workdays I’ve ever had. And literally every single Monster Hunter event was a heartwarming reminder of how welcoming and helpful the Capcom community can be.

Though my title was always Community Manager, I was fortunate enough to dip my toes in many different pools. I helped grease the wheels to get several Virtual Console and PS1 Classics out the door ( including MML , a years-long effort). I remain quite proud of both Mega Man tribute albums , and this year I helped get the Street Fighter II vinyl/CD set conversation moving. I’m not sure other places would’ve allowed me in the meetings, let alone propose and semi-manage their creation.

Every department, from licensing to marketing to publishing to the CEO staff, was interested in what community had to say, and boy howdy, I sure took the opportunity to speak. I know it may seem like things move slowly at times, but that’s because we’re dealing with huge brands that matter to millions. Decisions can’t be made in weeks, months or even in some rare cases, years.

In its 30+ year history, Capcom has had its ups and downs, but when Capcom does it right, Capcom does it right .  And for the first time in four years, I’ll get to experience those highs with you, as a fellow fan.

Streaming Resident Evil Zero, Friday 11am

Oct 29, 2015 // Minish Capcom

Hop by our Twitch channel tomorrow at 11am Pacific to catch me & Gregaman running through an hour of Resident Evil Zero (HD Embettered Edition). So long as there aren’t any giant centipedes lurking about, we should be fine. I mean, that’s such a specific phobia, I can’t imagine  that exact thing  being in the game.

Anyway! We’ll kick it live at 11am and play for a while, giving you a glimpse of the game’s gorgeous visuals and outstanding audio design. See you there!

Celebrate twenty years of zombie mayhem with this zombie mashup

Oct 28, 2015 // GregaMan

Halloween is mere days away. Anyone dressing up as a Resident Evil character for the occasion?

Meanwhile, the folks over in Capcom Japan whipped up the following “Zombie Mashup” video for the occasion. Capcom recently kicked off Resident Evil’s 20th Anniversary celebration, so it’s a fine time to look back on two decades of zombie mayhem. We’ve sure taken a lot of bites and popped a lot of heads over the years. Observe!

And of course, there’s plenty more Resident Evil on the way, with the remaster of  Resident Evil 0 as well as  Umbrella Corps   coming early next year,  Resident Evil Origins Collection coming January 19th, and production of a Resident Evil 2 remake freshly confirmed.

With all that to look forward to, you’ll want to head to the official RE site  frequently to keep up with all the latest news on the franchise.
