Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition available now on Steamworks

Mar 26, 2015 // GregaMan

UPDATE 5/11/15: New changelist info at the bottom of the page, including save data import ability.

Good news! RE5’s long-requested “Gold Edition” content is finally coming to PCs as part of the game’s conversion to Steamworks. And by “finally coming,” I mean it’s out now!

If you already own regular RE5 through either Steam or a boxed retail Games For Windows Live, you can acquire a free Steamworks copy and then purchase the new Gold Edition content for $14.99. If you don’t own RE5 in any form, you can pick up the entire game (RE5 + Gold Edition content) at a discount price for a limited time. The standard RE5 is also still available, and is also on sale.

Resident Evil 5 (“vanilla” version) $19.99 | $6.80
Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition –  $29.99 | $20.99

For those who didn’t already know, Gold Edition was originally released for Xbox 360 and PS3 back in March 2010 – making this week the game’s fifth anniversary. Gold Edition collected all the DLC released to that point, including a versus mode, four new costumes, Mercenaries Reunion and two new story-based chapters.

“Lost in Nightmares” takes place prior to RE5, with Chris and Jill on a mission to apprehend Umbrella founder Oswald Spencer. “Desperate Escape” takes place near the end of RE5, teaming Jill with BSAA agent Josh Stone. Mercenaries Reunion adds even more characters to the mode, including Barry Burton and Rebecca Chambers.

This anniversary is also perfectly timed with the release of Resident Evil Revelations 2, which completed its episodic release last week in conjunction with the disc version launch. While we won’t spoil anything here, players and eagle-eyed fans may have already noticed some possible connections with Resident Evil 5…

Please note that if you have the GFWL version, you can certainly continue playing. All of our applicable GFWL titles continue to support the features and will function normally. To continue playing on GFWL though, you must maintain a separate installation using the GFWL activation key.

Here’s an overview of some of the basic Qs you might have:

Q: If I already have the GFWL version of the game, can I get the Steamworks version?

A: If you purchased a retail package GFWL version, you can use the GFWL activation code and redeem it on Steam to get a free copy of the full Steamworks-enabled version. Those who have already purchased the game on Steam or through other online distributors selling Steam keys will automatically be upgraded to the full Steamworks edition.

If you purchased a digital copy directly from the Microsoft GFWL marketplace, you can continue to enjoy RE5 on GFWL. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate a Steamworks transfer for these folks as there is no authentication option available. However, all of our applicable GFWL titles continue to support the features and will function normally. To continue playing on GFWL, you must maintain a separate installation using the GFWL activation key.

Q. Will my save data be compatible with the new Steamworks version?

A. We’ve implemented a save data and Achievements migration tool that’s built right into each game.  The tool will allow you to transfer progress from GFWL to Steam.  However, the game will require that you install and sign into the GFWL client since the game needs to authenticate unlocked Achievements recorded on the GFWL service.  Those who wish to start the game from scratch can skip the GFWL client installation entirely since the save/Achievement migration is optional.

Note the GFWL save data and achievement migration tool will be ready after launch; please stay tuned for an announcement on the official Steam forum.

Q: Will the new Steamworks versions support any Steam features? (Steam Trading Cards, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, leaderboards, etc.)

A: RE5 and RE5: GE will support the standard suite of Steamworks features including Matchmaking, Achievements, Leaderboards, and Cloud save.  Trading Cards will be available shortly after launch.

Q: How do I access “Lost in Nightmares” and “Desperate Escape” extra episodes?

A: You must complete Chapter 3-1 in the main campaign to unlock “Lost in Nightmare” and complete the full campaign on any difficulty to unlock “Desperate Escape.”

-UPDATE-

  • Click new menu option “Import Windows Live Profile” to import save data and Achievements from Games for Windows Live into Steam
  • Lighting has been improved (fixed problem with offset lighting)
  • Fixed unlocking issues when upgrading to DLC/Gold Edition

Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition will include five playable characters, other features

Mar 23, 2015 // GregaMan

Okay, Devil May Cry fans—you’ve been waiting since December for solid info on Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition. Here it is.

DMC4SE is currently in development for the PS4, Xbox One, and yes, the PC, and set for a release this summer. It will be a digital release, but you can expect a tremendous amount of content and replayability at a great value.

DMC4SE is a heavily enhanced version of the 2008 stylish action classic, featuring:

  • Three new playable characters, making for a total of five playable characters—the largest playable roster in the series’ history.
    • Vergil – Dante’s ice-cold twin brother and master of the iaijutsu sword fighting style. As described by the game’s director , Hideaki Itsuno, Vergil will have a fully upgradable move set based on his rendition in Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition, with elements of DmC Devil May Cry’s Vergil added in, making this the definitive version of the character. He will also feature a new “Concentration” mechanic, which makes his attacks get more powerful the more flawlessly he fights.   Vergil will be playable on any mission.
    • Trish – Resident badass since her first appearance in the first Devil May Cry’s opening cutscene, Trish does away with the need for weapon switching, instead utilizing the versatile Sparda sword, her pistols, and her bare hands in a variety of inventive ways. Trish allows players to fight with relatively few buttons, but is still quite a deep character with an awesome move set. Trish will be playable on Dante’s missions.
    • Lady – Playable for the first time, Lady specializes in long-range, firearm-based combat, making the game feel completely different. Her signature weapon, the Kalina Ann, features a grappling hook which allows her to traverse environments similarly to Nero, among other applications. Lady will be playable on Nero’s missions.
  • Legendary Dark Knight Mode – First introduced in the PC version of Devil May Cry 4, this mode pits players against an absolutely tremendous number of enemies, meaning you’ll have to adjust your combat strategy.

  • Turbo Mode – Enhances the gameplay speed by 20% across the board.
  • Enhanced visuals – 1080p support and up-res’d textures,  while preserving the game’s 60fps framerate.
  • Bonus costumes and skins.
  • Numerous minor tweaks to game tempo and balance.

We will have more info on the game in coming weeks, so be excited and stay tuned!

MH4U Caravan Tour makes a special stop at Six Flags Magic Mountain on 3/28 and 3/29

Mar 23, 2015 // Yuri Araujo

On March 28th and 29th, the national Monster Hunter Caravan Tour will make a very special stop at Six Flags Magic Mountain, in Los Angeles, California, to kick off the  Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate  experience at the park!

And I say “kick off” because, in case you can’t come this weekend, the  MH4U experience will be live until August 10th. That’s 5 months from now – so you have no excuse – but you should really try to be there with the Caravan to take in as much Monster Hunter as possible. 😉

Now what’s so special about MH4U being at Six Flags Magic Mountain? Well, among other things, we’ve worked together to theme their metal monster Goliath coaster to resemble the mighty Gore Magala we all know and love (or hate?). Get this, now you can actually  ride the monster in real life!

We’ll have more pictures of the coaster and the whole experience soon, but in the meantime, read (and watch) more about the Goliath  right here .

There’s something in there about gravity and  4 .5  G s…  like, 4G… 4U… right?

Capcom Recap – March 20, 2015

Mar 21, 2015 // GregaMan

Today it is my privilege to introduce to you the  Capcom Recap– a biweekly video series we’ve whipped up to shine a spotlight on Capcom news and community feats. Hit the jump to see our very first episode.

We’re lucky to have lots going on with Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, and Resident Evil, all of which have some very exhibition and community-centric elements, which are great for video highlights!

That said, we’re not limiting the Recap series to those four brands. If you’ve recently done something noteworthy, cool, or funny in  any Capcom game and caught it on video, email us at  recap@capcom.com with a YouTube link and a brief description explaining what’s notable about the video. Be sure to include any relevant timestamps–I don’t want to sift through a thirty-minute video for a three-second clip!

RE Revelations 2 soundtrack available on Sumthing Else

Mar 19, 2015 // Minish Capcom

You can’t have a great game / film / life without solid music to back it up. Sometimes you want a toe-tapping melody, other times – like with Revelations 2 – you want moody, opressive, atmospheric tunes that accentuate the onscreen tension. And whaddya know, that’s precisely what the RER2 OST is like!

Head over to Sumthing Else music and preview / download the soundtrack. I suggest “Overseer 2” and “Rotten” as great tracks with both mood and a tune you can hum, while “Lost – Enchained Ver.” and “Natalia” are perfect for setting a scene. Give ’em a listen!

Also… keep plugging away at Raid Mode and send us any clips of crazy character builds or moments via this thread .

If you’re already a Capcom Unity member, you can use that account to log in and then synch up a Gamertag / PSN ID / Steam ID.

Two bonus episodes coming this week to RE Revelations 2

Mar 17, 2015 // Minish Capcom

When the credits roll in RER2, you’ll have two options. One, fire up Raid Mode and start unlocking all the maps, missions and characters tucked away inside. Or two, try one of the bonus episodes that launch alongside Episode 4 this week!

Bonus Episode: The Struggle

Moira fights to survive the horrors of the island with the help of an old hand. This is her story of struggle and redemption.

Bonus Episode: Little Miss

Natalia dreams that her favorite Teddy bear, Lottie, has gone missing. Startled, she awakens face-to-face with another version of herself. Unsure if it is still a dream, together they go in search of Lottie. This is the story of Natalia’s mysterious adventure.

Emphasis on “mysterious” in that one 😛

Both episodes offer further insight into Moira (The Struggle) and Natalia (Little Miss) that, while not required to appreciate the main story, do help deepen the experience.

They are available individually OR are already yours as part of the Complete Season / Retail disc!

Resident Evil Revelations 2 – Episode 4 and retail disc launching this week

Mar 17, 2015 // Minish Capcom

If you’ve been following RER2’s weekly episodes, the saga concludes with EP4 this week. However, those waiting for the physical disc – which includes all four episodes plus additional content – can look forward to the full experience  today  (North America) and 3/20 (Europe).

Needless to say there are some scenes in the above trailer – and the below “previously on Episode 3” clip – that could be considered spoilers , so if you want to go into the disc as a blank slate, please look away and consider firing up DmC or MH4U in the meantime :3

And as noted yesterday , EP4 also comes with another batch of Raid Mode missions and characters. Play more, unlock more, and keep the Raid train a-rollin’!

You’ll be able to download Episode 4 starting early  this  afternoon / early evening (PT) on PS3, PS4 and Xbox One. Steam players should see the episode go live around 9-10pm PT, and Xbox 360 owners should be able to download very early  tomorrow  morning (PT). EU players should see EP4 launching during their Wednesday.
