You won’t believe what Dead Rising 3 won in Bloody Disgusting’s Fear Awards

Feb 10, 2014 // Chris

We’ll give you a hint: It’s probably not “Feel Good Game of the Year”

Congrats to Dead Rising 3 on its victory in Bloody Disgusting’s 2013 Fear Awards ! As you many of you may’ve already seen/guessed, Capcom’s next-gen journey through post-apocalyptic weapon crafting took 1st Place in the “Best Arsenal” category, as voted on by Bloody Disgusting’s readers .

DR 3 also placed 3rd in the “Best Gory” category, which is no small feat when you’re competing against other fine titles in the horror genre like Last of Us, Outlast, Dead Space 3, DayZ, The Walking Dead, Amnesia, and MY GOD THIS GENRE IS CROWDED. Whatever, it’s an honor just to be nominated. See the rest of the awards here

USFIV Japanese Beta Location Test Report

Feb 08, 2014 // ComboFiend

Last week there were another series of location tests in Japan for the latest build of Ultra Street Fighter IV. Read below to find what players had to say!

Hey everyone, Tomoaki Ayano here!

As you know, the Beta Location Tests were held last weekend in Japan. I was on location at HEY in Akihabara, checking out the score with Mr. Sugiyama. The first thing I noticed was that the line there was HUGE! But aside from the long line, I also noticed that a lot of people were using the four new characters. Also, I think there were a lot of people who were new to the NESiCA card system there, because there were players who’d sit down at the cabinet with the card and be like, “Okay…now what do I do with this?” My guess is that the appeal of Mr. Oshikiri’s NESiCA card brought a lot of first-timers to the event.

But while there might have been a lot of first-time players there, that didn’t stop the battles from heating up! I saw a lot of people playing in the Super SFIV area, and then once they’d finished there, they came over to the Ultra SFIV area to try things out. That’s like a whole day of SFIV!

We heard a few concerns on Twitter and other social networks that we would run out of the limited-edition NESiCA cards on the first day. Well, we prepared a metric ton of ’em, so everyone who came out was able to get their hands on one! A lot of people were really happy to get theirs. Special thanks to Mr. Oshikiri and Taito for helping to make this happen!

You know I had to get one for myself as well!

You can also use the NESiCA stickers that were given out at the Alpha Location Tests on this card. They’re reusable, so you can enjoy the Ultra Double awesomeness of Mr. Oshikiri’s design and the new character stickers!

Anyway, I’m sure you’re all here for the Beta Location Test info! Wait no longer, because here it is!

So far we’ve only compiled the numbers, but from now on we’ll be taking a close look at the feedback that came in with them. If anything this tells us that the new characters are still very much a work in progress. One thing in particular I noticed was that Elena players reported that she doesn’t play like her previous incarnations. I also noticed that a lot of people were using Poison, and of the four new characters, her numbers are the best.

Similar to the Alpha tests the numbers are about half good, half bad. We’ll keep going forward trying to figure out what it is that players aren’t satisfied with.

– Please give us your overall impression of the new battle systems.

I feel that by releasing the balance update data ahead of the test, players were able to study that before playing, so the data we collected here is probably the most accurate of all the data we’ve collected so far. It’s important to figure out which characters the players were using when they made their responses. This will be key as we look at the new battle systems and how they affect each individual character, and it will also be important once we get into the finer points of balance adjustment.

It’s finally time to announce…that. What’s “that,” you ask? It’s the number one thing you’ve all been wondering about. Yeah, that “that.” You may want to keep a sharp lookout on March 15…

Need a little more info than that? Well, here’s a hint!

10010 ‧ 1111 ‧ 10101 ‧ 1110 ‧ 100

Well, that’s all for this week. See you again next week!

Resident Evil Revelations sells a million

Feb 07, 2014 // Minish Capcom

Just a quick little pat on the back for RE Revelations – the console/PC versons have passed the one-million mark in worldwide sales and are currently sitting pretty at 1.1 million overall.

The 3DS version was great, but I’m still quite pleased Revelations could make the leap to 360, PS3, Wii U and PC as well. It’s a great, claustrophobic game that really walks the line between ’90s and ’00s RE.

Revs joins Dead Rising 3 as a 2013 million-seller, plus we have word that DuckTales Remastered also performed admirably.

Next up for the series – Resident Evil 4 PC, which lands on Feb 27/28

Hi everyone, firstly I wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who came to the last European location test in Paris at the beginning of the year. I was inundated with feedback, and the overall enthusiasm from the French FGC was incredible.

Monster Hunter Origami – Brachydios and Barroth

Feb 07, 2014 // Yuri Araujo

FINALLY!!! *ahem* I mean, it’s been a really long time since I’ve seen any  Monster Hunter  Origami/Papercraft, so I was exceptionally ecstatic when I saw these:

Man, what a fantastic job Paperfolder Cahoonas did! And the folding pattern ( provided here ) seems to be rather simplistic, even though the final results are actually quite detailed.

Anyways, there’s the  Brachydios above but here’s a Barroth   as well, and even an indistinct  Fire Wyvern , which was also inspired by  Monster Hunter (read the Deviantart desctiption).

Please go to Cahoonas’  Deviantart and/or Tumblr to leave a comment, a “like”, or whatever way those systems allow you to show your appreciation for their work.

Throwback Thursdays: Resident Evil 4 PC

Feb 06, 2014 // Minish Capcom

Tune in at 4pm Pacific to see a live demo of Resident Evil 4 PC! At nine years old, RE4 totally counts as a “classic,” but this latest version brings it into the modern era. The best of both worlds!

We’ll be streaming the game at high settings (and at 60fps) so it’s a great chance to see the game in action. That said, the best possible viewing option would be these gameplay videos that are available for download – watch ’em on your own machine for maximum effect!

The HD gameplay clip is quite large, and recorded at a high bitrate, so if it happens to stutter or lag… try a different machine 🙂

OR you can try an alternate player, such as VLC. That seems to work for most folks.

Anyway, hop over to our Twitch channel at 4pm!

Gorgeous new RE4 PC comparison footage + screens

Feb 05, 2014 // Minish Capcom

Most of us have played RE4 once or twice. Or three or four times. Or you know maybe some of us have played it a dozen or so over the past nine years. But most of us have NOT played it at 1920×1080 with a stunning 60fps searing the screen. We hoped our [earlier trailer] showcased this feature to your satisfaction, but just in case you wanted more proof, today we have two gameplay clips ready for download and direct comparison.

Right here you’ll find the first few moments of the game running at 30fps with the SD (original) texture pack active.

Right here you’ll find the first few moments of the game running at 60fps with the HD (improved) texture pack active. LARGE file!

You can also compare the above screenshot (HD textures) with this same moment in SD:

You can immediately notice the extra detail on the outfit, and you’ll find similar improvements throughout the game. Like I said, I’ve played through RE4 multiple times and this version really is the slickest yet.

You can pre-purchase it now on Steam , GameFly  or  GameStop Impulse (with more to come) and in doing so will get the digital soundtrack AND 80+ page digital archives! Game’s out on February 27!

Playing Monster Hunter football with a Wyvern egg

Feb 05, 2014 // Yuri Araujo

I don’t always talk about American football… but when I do, it’s actually about Monster Hunter.

Since the Super Bowl just happened this past Sunday and I just saw this fan art by DeityofShadows on the Monster Hunter Facebook page , I figure it’d be good timing to share it with you.

Who else here always thought the Daimyo Hermitaur male armor set looked a lot like football gear?
