Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite – Battle for the Stones

Sep 19, 2017 // Andy Wong

Face front, True Believer, and get ready to compete in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite – Battle for the Stones, an epic competition taking place this December!

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite – Battle for the Stones will see titanic forces collide as the seven EVO champions from the past and a new group of nine qualifiers fight in a competition unlike any you’ve witnessed before! As the name suggests, the Infinity Stones play a vital role in this clash against the EVO legends. On the road to the “Battle for the Stones,” there are six official Infinity Stone Tournaments all over the world that will each represent one of the Stones. Those who wield one of the Stones will gain a special tournament rule-bending power they can activate during the “Battle for the Stones” Finals in Anaheim, CA on December 9-10, 2017. Outside of these Infinity Stone Tournaments, there will also be three regional online qualifier tournaments (that do not feature Infinity Stones) for the EU, LATAM and NA regions, making the top 16.

Top 16 for the “Battle for the Stones” will comprise of:

  • Seven EVO champions
  • Six Infinity Stone bearers from Infinity Stone Tournaments around the world
  • Three online tournament winners

The winner of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite – Battle for the Stones will be rewarded with a special one-of-a-kind trophy that represents the Battle for the Stones!

As previously mentioned, Infinity Stones will grant actual abilities that can be used outside of the typical “in-game” competition to give players an advantage over their opponent! Each Infinity Stone power will be revealed at its corresponding Infinity Stone Tournament.  Be wary, for if you lose the fight with a Stone in hand, you’ll need to hand it over to the winner of the match and return to being a mere mortal.

With Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite releasing on September 19 th , we wanted to showcase the game with a special exhibition series that reflected the otherworldly and compelling elements that Marvel vs. Capcom is known for. Check out the Capcom Unity website and @capcomfighters on Twitter as we countdown the weeks to the “Battle for the Stones” with player profiles, detailed breakdowns of the rules, and explanations of each of the six Infinity Stone Powers that the Stone Bearers will be able to use at the “Battle for the Stone” Finals.

Join us as we celebrate the launch of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite with this one-time series that shows the world that RULES ARE NOT SET IN STONE!

Open to all individuals age 13 and older as of March 1, 2017. All players under the age of majority must have parental permission and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Finals tournament to be held from Dec 8-10, 2017 in Anaheim, CA. Marvel is in no way a sponsor, administrator, or prize provider for this tournament. • The Evo Champions have already ascended to beyond-omega power levels, they are not eligible to win a stone from a Qualifying Tournament. In the event they win an Infinity Stone Qualifying Tournament, the Infinity Stone will be passed to the next eligible player.
    • In the event that the next eligible player is a tie, the two tied players will play a 3/5 set to determine who wins the Infinity Stone and qualifies for the Battle for the Stones Finals.

No competitor may win multiple qualifying spots for the Battle for the Stones Finals:

  • Players who have already qualified for the Battle for the Stones Finals may still enter Infinity Stone tournaments, or Online Qualifying Tournaments if they would like.  However, they are not eligible to win multiple spots.
  • In the case that a single player wins multiple Infinity Stone tournaments, then they may choose which Infinity Stone they would like to bring into the Battle for the Stones Finals.  The remaining Infinity Stone will go to the next eligible player.
  • Evo Champions may not enter the Battle for the Stones Finals with an Infinity Stone.  However, if they defeat a Stone Bearer during the Battle for the Stones Finals, they acquire the Infinity Stone and may use it once throughout the Battle for the Stones Finals.

Marvel Entertainment LLC and its affiliates are in no way sponsors, administrators, organizers, or prize providers of The Battle for the Stones Tournament Series. Employees of Marvel Entertainment LLC and its affiliates are not eligible for entry. Patrick Kulikowski: Kicking off this week’s Community Highlights is a truly magical Ace Attorney cosplay coming out of the Tracon 2017 convention in Tampere, Finland. Cosplayer @moemoefever nailed the energetic Trucy Wright’s look to a ‘T’! From the cape, the brooch, magician’s hat and even the baton – no detail was spared.

This serves as a solid reminder that you can check out Trucy’s debut all over again when Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney hits the 3DS eShop this November!

And to wrap things up, I have to throw some enormous kudos to @SeharJH for her fantastic fan art pieces for Breath of Fire IIand Breath of Fire IV! With BoFII we’ve got Ryu and his loyal doggo partner Bow having a heart-to-heart, which conjures up all kinds of nostalgic fuzzies within me. The BoFIV art is a humorous take on Ershin’s unique dashing ability, something Nina seems to be enjoying a lot more than her buddies Cray and Ryu.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite – Character Tutorials

Sep 12, 2017 // Andy Wong

As we approach the release of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite on September 19, we’re all suited up to provide you with tutorial videos for all 30 of our characters at launch. We hope these videos aid in assembling your team and choosing your Infinity Stone when it’s time for the battle to begin. Reporting in first for this Character Tutorials series are Iron Man, Captain America, Ryu, Captain Marvel, Morrigan, and Mega Man X.

Iron Man – Tony Stark flies in with enough firepower to deal with any team that chooses to face him. With moves like Unibeam, Smart Mine, and Proton Cannon to reach almost every corner of the screen, Iron Man is a great pick for new and veteran players alike. He may have trouble rushing down the enemy, but with a solid teammate to cover for him, he’ll have control of the fight in no time.

Captain America – Assemble a team with Steve Rogers if you enjoy having options for almost every situation. With a new move called Liberty Shock, which counters everything except throws, opponents will need to be extra cautious before attacking. Pair him up with characters that can follow up with his shield throws or help control the air.

Ryu – The World Warrior returns with all the special moves he’s known for. Whether it’s Hadoken, Shoryuken, or Tatsumaki Senpukyaku, Street Fighter players will feel right at home. Though a well-balanced character, he can be paired with others who can enhance his combo ability and control of the screen.

Captain Marvel – Making her Marvel vs. Capcom series debut, Carol Danvers flies in with a move set focusing heavily on her super strength and energy projection. Her Photon Absorber gives her super armor, allowing her to power through light attacks and single-hit projectiles. As a focused aerial fighter, characters with ground control or trap usage can pair well with Captain Marvel.

Morrigan – Ruling the skies, Morrigan Aensland returns to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite with new clever tricks in her arsenal. With her signature Astral Vision Hyper Combo, her enemies will need to watch their backs before this succubus takes control of the screen. It’s not surprising the Soul Stone turns Morrigan into a chaotic force as its Infinity Storm turns a one-on-one fight into a three-on-one.

Mega Man X – With a wide range of projectiles available to him, X beams in for his long-awaited debut in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. He has projectiles that bounce off walls, cause a large amount of hit stun, and one that can beat out most other projectiles. While X is in the backline, he can be paired with more aggressive characters that can take a hit for him.

Stay tuned for more character tutorial videos coming all the way up until launch!

Hey, Capcom Unity! I’m Andy.

Sep 12, 2017 // Andy Wong

HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!

I’m Andy, your newest Sr. Social Media Specialist as part of the community team here at Capcom! I’ll be working primarily on the fighting brands here, including Street Fighter V and other marvelous titles . I’m a huge fighting game and esports fan, which means I’m probably lurking in the same tournament streams as you are – I could have even been sitting next to you at Capcom Cup! I’m excited to be here and can’t wait to be a part of all the fighting game activities.

(Here’s a picture of Ono-san signing my badge at PSX before I started working here.)

The first video game I ever played was Street Fighter II on the Super Nintendo where I “mained” Chun-Li by spamming her kick buttons and getting away with it – forgive me, I was around five or six years old. Ever since then, I’ve picked up many a fighting game and learned to only button mash when I want to confuse the other player. I currently main Nash in Street Fighter V and prefer zoning in fighting games.

I mostly play Capcom’s fighting games, but have also delved into Mega Man, Onimusha, Dragon’s Dogma, and um… watching Resident Evil. I have Resident Evil 7 and PlayStation VR, but barely made it through just watching someone play two hours of it. Someday, I’ll get the courage to play it, but today is not that day.

Video games aside, my other obsession is music. I try to go to at least one concert a month even if I have no initial interest in the headliner. I grew up playing classical piano and taught myself guitar later in life. Yes, I love playing video game music Cool .

Nice to meet everyone. See you on stream and hope to talk to you soon!

Last week, our larger-than-life Rathalos flew out to Seattle for PAX West 2017, and along with it, went 16 playable stations of Monster Hunter: World, so we could host our first major hands-on event in North America. If you were one of the lucky players to test your hunting skills against the Great Jagras or the Anjanath, please share your thoughts below.

But if you couldn’t make it to the show, you can live vicariously through the awesome folks that came by and recorded gameplay footage, like veteran Gunlance and Bow master Shepard. I saw some other Pro monster hunters get some quality time with the game too…

Speaking of pros, right before PAX, we had fighting game expert Maximilian come by the office and go out on a few hunts. Check out his impressions here too:

——————————

Patrick Kulikowski: MAGFest (Music and Gaming Festival) made its West Coast debut in Santa Clara, California as “MAGWest” at the end of August, and you better believe that several game music cover bands assembled and rocked out to some classic Capcom game tunes during its nightly concerts.

Imagine the huge smile on my face as I personally witnessed cover band Kirby’s Dream Band, joined by several other musicians on stage, jamming and dancing with the crowd to the short “Get Weapon” tune from Mega Man 3 for five straight minutes. And then there was Viking Guitar, who busted out a surf rock arrangement of the familiar Ghosts ‘n Goblins stage music as well as a heavy metal medley of Mega Man X2 goodness.

While no video recording has been made available, VGM cover band The Koopas also put on a mighty fine Mega Man X medley, so shout-outs to them as well!

Kirby’s Dream Band

  • “Ken’s Stage” & “Guile’s Stage” from Street Fighter II (originally composed by Yoko Shimomura) – 10:56
  • “The Moon Stage” from DuckTales (originally composed by Hiroshige Tonomura) – 55:15
  • “Storm Eagle” from Mega Man X (originally composed by Makoto Tomozawa) – 58:17
  • “Get A Weapon” from Mega Man 3 (originally composed by Yasuaki Fujita) – 1:00:39

Viking Guitar

“1st & 2 nd BGM” from Ghosts ‘n Goblins (originally composed by Ayako Mori) – 25:10

Mega Man X2 – Charge Shot” (Mega Man X2 medley including “Opening Stage”, “Magna Centipede Stage,” “Flame Stag Stage,” and “X Hunter Stage 1,” originally composed by Yuki Iwai) 32:27

And once you’ve finishing bobbing your head to all of the above, feast your eyes on this epic Resident Evil cosplay photo . This S.T.A.R.S. vs. Umbrella battle took place on a giant staircase at Dragon Con in Atlanta, Georgia this past Labor Day weekend.

Who do you think would win? Umbrella may have Wesker and Nemesis, but S.T.A.R.S. has two Barry Burtons. ‘Nuff said!
