15 tips on playing the Monster Hunter: World Beta

Dec 08, 2017 // Yuri Araujo

Greetings hunters! The Monster Hunter: World PS4 Beta is happening this weekend— you can download it here:  US / EU —and we have plenty of information to help you dive into the game. There is a quick guide available on the website , but we also have even more helpful tips below!

Foreword

It’s an exciting time to finally have players get their hands on the game ahead of its full console release on January 26, but before we dive in, I just wanted to emphasize that some of the contents of this Beta may differ from the full game. Most notably, this Beta is segmented into three standalone quests that last up to 20 minutes, and that’s quite different from how they’ll come in the main game: they can last up to 50 minutes and may come up organically in your journey or be acquired by NPCs in the Research Commission headquarters of Astera. And of course, the main game loop we’re saving just for the full game: after each quest, you’ll get to carve and collect monster parts that can be fashioned into powerful weapons and armor that will aid you in taking down the next big monster in line.

And one final note before jumping in: these 15 tips are geared towards folks that have little to no familiarity with the Monster Hunter series (welcome, BTW!) or have taken a long break from their hunting duties (welcome back, BTW!). If you’re a veteran hunter who’s been keeping up with recent titles, a lot of the core hunting principals will still apply to Monster Hunter: World, so I encourage taking your time to explore and uncover the new gameplay systems as you play. Now without further ado, here are 15 tips on playing the Monster Hunter: World Beta:

1. Save time on character creation

You want to get straight to the action and we know this, so for the Beta we’ve limited the character creator to 6 presets per gender, and 4 presets for your Palico (your AI-controlled Felyne companion). In the full game, you’ll have access to a vast customization system, but for now we’re even letting you change your appearance before each quest.

2. Find a hunting party

Sure, you can go on a Single Player session and hunt solo, but 3/4 of the fun of Monster Hunter is in being 1/4 of a 4-player hunting party and working together to take down a fearsome monster. In this Beta, you can choose the quick Matchmake option to be paired with other hunters online or create your own Private Session and invite some friends. Just have them enter the auto-generated 16-digit session ID in the Search by Quest ID field and you’ll be hunting together in no time. Also worth noting the full game features even more ways to connect with other people, such as 16 player lobbies and friend invites.

3. Test drive any weapon type at your local Training Room today!

We’ve all been there: it’s your first hunt and your parents are live-tweeting the whole thing and your crush is watching. Yep, the pressure is on and you can’t afford any mistakes. Good thing you’ve taken the time to master each of the 14 unique weapon types in the game, right? No? Okay, then smoothly head over to the all-new Training Room and tell them you need to “try out a new strategy you just thought of.” You’ll be off the hook and have the perfect arena for trying out all available weapon types as well as your Slinger , environmental tools and more. And the best part is all of the items and ammunition you use in the Training Room will be reset when you go into an actual quest.

4. Eat, drink and be ready

Each quest starts with you and your pals at one of the 4 Base Camps present in each environment—and you can even start the quest at a different camp from your hunting pals, if you so choose. These enclosed spaces are the only areas where you’re truly safe from monsters in each map, but they also offer a variety of options for you to get ready for the hunt. There you can eat a meal at the Canteen to boost your stats and replenish your stamina, collect useful items from the blue Supply Box, such as First-Aid Meds you can drink to restore health, and even go inside the Tent to change up your weapons and armor to be ready for whatever challenges come your way.

5. Check your Map! And get to know your surroundings

10 out 10 cartographers agree maps are useful for not getting lost, so we’re giving one to every hunter out there… we’re giving you a Map, not a cartographer. Yeah, I’m sorry if I got your hopes up for that personal cartographer, but hey, the Map in Monster Hunter: World is pretty good: it can track your location and your hunting pals’ locations, mark items you can gather, useful environmental elements you can interact with, and even keep tabs on monsters (after you find them)! And if you need to make a quick trip back to any Base Camp, you can summon your personal Wingdrake for Fast Travel by simply selecting it on the Map, as long as you’re not in combat.

5 ½. Check your Mini-Map! And get to know your immediate surroundings

Have you ever tried opening up a full-sized Map during combat? Yep; bad news. That’s why we’ve also packed you a useful Mini-Map that’s always on the bottom left of the screen. It’s just like the normal full-sized Map, but Mini-sized. And while the scope is more limited, we’ve actually added some very useful bits of info on the ring surrounding the Mini-Map. So look out for the following clue:

  • No ring = you’re in the clear;
  • Purple = stealth. You’re out of sight, but monsters are looking for you… be very, very quiet;
  • Red = combat. Fight!

6. UI and You

Here’s a fun statistic: 100% of hunters faint when their health reaches zero. It’s a rather alarming data point, but there’s actually a very easy way to prevent this: mind your Health Bar, and other UI elements on screen.

  • The green gauge is the Health Bar in question; keep an eye on it and stay alive;
  • The yellow gauge beneath it is the Stamina Bar; keep it full (food!) to be able to Dash and execute specific attacks; you can’t run indefinitely in real-life either so mind the gauge!
  • The clock to the left of these two gauges is your quest timer; it moves once every 5 minutes;
  • Beneath the clock is a space dedicated to showing your teammates’ health bars and general status. Use this info to keep tabs on them and use the occasional Lifepowder to heal the whole group of nearby players;
  • And beneath the Stamina Bar is another contextual space that changes depending on the weapon you have equipped…

7. Stay sharp

Just like real-life, cutting tools will eventually become dull over time, leading to serious consequences. Remember that time at dinner when you tried to cut a steak with a dull knife and the knife bounced back making you fall off your chair, leaving you wide open for a counter-attack? Yep, same thing can happen in Monster Hunter: World; so if you pick any of the close range weapons (swords, axes, glaives, lances and hammers), keep an eye on your Sharpness Gauge and use Whetstones to maintain it at max level: green.

8. Reckon your range

If you prefer keeping a safe distance between you and your target—a smart move for new hunters, if you ask me—just remember to be mindful about the range of each ammo type. Spread shots excel at closer ranges while piercing ammo does best from farther away. You can see your selection on the bottom right corner of the screen, near the item wheel and I definitely recommend taking each ammo type or arrow coating for a spin in the Training Room so you can really see what they feel like. Look out for those Damage Indicators to help indicate if you’re nearing those optimal ranges.

9. Trust your Scoutfly

Monster Hunter: World brings us all to a new world filled with wonder, danger and places to explore. Even with a handy map, it can be quite easy to get lost and miss out on the best part of the game: hunting monsters. So why not trust your friendly Scoutfly , who clearly knows their way around? Of course, the Scoutfly have a clear advantage here since they can track things by smell, so they can point to Monster Tracks, Items , Interactive Elements and even Slinger Ammo that are beyond our current field of view! Next time you see a green mist effect fly from your hunter, just stop and take a look around; it might be pointing to the exact thing you’re looking for.

Quick note: the Scoutflies are actually living organisms and will shyly run back to their cage if they sense danger. So if you notice they’re not being helpful, check the ring around the Mini-Map; you might be in combat mode.

10. Load up your Slinger

Every hunter in the new world is equipped with one of these versatile and reliable projectile tossing apparatuses. But to make the most out of this hunting tool you need to first gather up said projectile to be tossed. As stated in tip #9, your Scoutfly can be of great use in finding and marking some Slinger Ammo for you, so do keep an eye out for those. Each ammo type carries different properties and are made for different uses, so I encourage experimenting in the field. Just be mindful that you can only carry one ammo type at a time and will drop the currently equipped projectile upon picking up a new one. The only exceptions are throwing knives and capture nets, which instead take up space in your inventory.

11. Great Jagras loves to eat

This beginner-friendly foe is the leader of the packs of small Jagras you’ll see roaming around the Ancient Forest. Chances are you’ll run into it during one of its meals, and it’ll be very obvious to tell once it’s done eating. Not only is this a neat aspect of the ecosystem, it’s actually also kind of like real life. You know how painful it can be if something hits you in your gut right after you ate something? Same goes for the Great Jagras; its enlarged stomach area becomes a weak point. So give it a couple of hits and watch those Damage Numbers go from white (regular) to yellow (higher) damaging values.

Great Jagras tracks include footprints , skid marks, and leftover carcasses .

12. Barroth uses its head to attack

The intermediate quest in the menu is the headstrong Barroth in the Wildspire Waste. This brute wyvern will often be found coated in mud to protect itself from intense heat and incoming attacks, and its main offensive strategy is using its head for charging attacks. But it doesn’t always think twice before charging at you… so you might be able to use this to your advantage…?

Barroth tracks include footprints , broken anthills, and mud tracks (also found on walls).

13. Beware the Anjanath

You’ve mastered the environmental interactions in the Ancient Forest and learned as much as you could about brute wyverns from the Barroth; now it’s time to put it all to the test in a battle against the mighty Anjanath! This beast of a monster is not only relentless in its attacks, but also brings in new moves and strategies to the mix. Watch out for tail swipes, constricting bites, unpredictable jumps and fire.

Anjanath tracks include footprints , carcasses , and mucus (also found on walls).

14. Hunt again

After you’ve completed your first quest (or each quest once), you might think to yourself: “well that was neat!” and immediately walk away. Well, what if I told you it gets better? We’ve said it before: Monster Hunter: World features a living, breathing ecosystem full of dynamic, natural and unexpected behaviors from its inhabitants. And we mean it. Of course, the full game will give you a very clear motivation to re-embark on the same quest—gear crafting materials!—but for this Beta I encourage you to play each quest once more if only to see the promise of this ever-changing ecosystem. And hey, maybe you can switch things up to and pick a different weapon type!

15. Join a random group

Okay, I think we’ve covered as much ground as we could about the contents of the Monster Hunter: World Beta, so I wanted to leave one final tip on an aspect that exists a degree beyond the Beta itself: playing with a random group online. I’ve been playing Monster Hunter for over a decade now, and while it’s incredibly fun to play with friends, I realized I’ve also learned so much from joining new hunting parties and watching and adapting to their strategies. So whether you’re planning to tackle the Beta with a full party or not, I recommend taking on at least one quest with a group of strangers. Just remember to be nice and watch each other’s backs.

Happy Hunting!

Complete List of V-Trigger IIs in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition!

Dec 08, 2017 // Andy Wong

In Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, coming January 16, 2018, every character will receive a second V-Trigger that opens up new options, mix-ups, and combos! We previously teased a few of them, but now, we’re ready to reveal them all. Continue reading for screenshots and descriptions of each character’s second V-Trigger!

Ryu (Kakko Fubatsu) – While active, press HP + HK to use Isshin, a technique that counters the opponent’s attacks.

Upon countering an attack, a shockwave of energy will be released around Ryu. If this shockwave hits the opponent, Ryu will perform a strike attack.

Using Isshin, Ryu can counter everything except throws, giving him a highly functional defensive option. The opponent will be vulnerable to additional attacks after the Isshin strike, making for a great opportunity to deal major damage.

Chun-Li (Kikosho) – Chun-Li fires a ball of energy from both her hands in this V-Trigger. Press HP + HK to fire another Kikosho.

For Kikosho after V-Trigger activation, hold down the buttons HP + HK, and Kikosho will gain guard break properties. The opponent will be vulnerable afterwards, giving Chun-Li an opportunity to deal additional damage.

Nash (Stealth Dash) – With Stealth Dash, Nash quickly moves towards his opponent. During movement, press punch for Justice Corridor, a strong overhead punch move, or press kick for Justice Shell, a kick that launches the opponent. Press back for a quick stop, making this V-Trigger great for high-speed movement options.

Both Justice Corridor and Justice Shell can be canceled on hit or block, allowing Nash to extend his combos or keep up the pressure on a blocking opponent. However, the same move cannot be canceled into itself.

M. Bison (Psycho Nightmare) – While active, press HP + HK to perform the Psycho Crusher special move. Bison also gains Psycho Charge – press reverse half circle (forward to back) plus kick to perform a command throw that infuses the opponent with Psycho Power.

If an opponent has been hit with Psycho Charge, the Psycho Power infused into them will explode after a set period of time. If the Psycho Charge was successful, the infusion can also be detonated with Psycho Judgement (forward to back) plus kick at your own discretion.

Cammy (Delta Ambush) – Press HP + HK for Delta Ambush, where Cammy flies towards her opponent.

Press forward plus HP + HK for Delta Step, a quick forward dash. Although there are no move variations from Delta Step, Cammy can cancel her normal moves from the dash. Use it in combos, or to help her keep up a fast-paced offensive rush.

Press kick during Delta Ambush for the downward kick move Reverse Edge, or press punch for the command throw Delta Twist.

Birdie (Birdie Time) – While in Birdie Time, press HP + HK to perform a new chain attack. Bull Swing is a high chain attack and allows for follow-up attacks, while Bull Capture is a low-hitting chain attack that targets the opponent’s feet. Use the directional buttons for the different versions.

The flames Birdie shoots from his mouth on activation have a hitbox, and on hit the opponent can be hit with an additional attack. Also, the low-hitting chain Bull Capture can interact with the objects Birdie throws on the ground for his V-Skill, giving him a unique new approach to the neutral game.

Ken (Shinryuken) – Shinryuken is a powerful, multi-hit rising Shoryuken. If it hits, rapidly press punch to change the properties of the move.

The landing recovery of the max-strength version from rapid button presses can be special move canceled, leading to some very powerful combos.

Necalli (Clouded Mirror) – Starting with Arcade Edition, Clouded Mirror is a special move Necalli gains after activating his V-Trigger I. It is a ranged attack, where Necalli jumps at his opponent with a strike.

Hold down the buttons to greatly increase the move’s strength. Necalli can juggle the opponent after the max strength version hits. Since it has quite a bit of startup, use together with Culminated Power to avoid having the opponent take advantage of the startup.

Vega (Alegrias) – While active, press HP + HK to perform Flash Arch – Rossa, which will counter the opponent’s attack, or perform the counter attack independently with Flash Arch – Granate (forward plus HP + HK).

Upon landing a successful counter, Vega will counter-attack, kicking the opponent up into the air, leaving them vulnerable to additional attacks. Flash Arch – Granate is the attack part without the counter. It’s good for usage in combos, but keep in mind that Flash Arch – Granate cannot counter attacks.

R. Mika (Steel Chair) – Nadeshiko will run out from behind Mika and throw a steel chair at the opponent. Hold down the button for Fightin’ Dirty, where Nadeshiko will run up to the opponent and take two swings at them with the steel chair.

Steel Chair hits multiple times, making it a great tool for combos. As Nadeshiko attacks twice with the steel chair in Fightin’ Dirty, use it together with Mika’s attacks to open up the opponent.

Karin (Tenha no Kata) – While active, Karin will be able to use her counter move Yasha Gaeshi Tenchi by pressing HP + HK. What Karin does afterwards will change depending on the type of attack she counters.

Countering a low attack results in Yasha Gaeshi Chi, while all other attacks will result in Yasha Gaeshi Ten. Both moves can be canceled into from the recovery of her special moves and V-Skill, so Karin can turn situations where she’s normally at a disadvantage, into her favor.

Rashid (Easifa) – Easifa strengthens Rashid’s kick special moves while active. Press HP + HK to perform Haboob, a wind projectile that has a different trajectory than his Whirlwind Shot.

Easifa strengthens the forward movement and hit properties of the kick special moves, increases range, and provides for other strengthening effects. It also increases the jump speed and distance of his front flip and allows Rashid to perform a wall jump after EX Eagle Spike hits, giving him more options in the neutral game and in combos.

Zangief (Cossack Muscle) – Cossack Muscle changes the properties of Screw Pile Driver and Borscht Dynamite. The effects last until the V-Gauge Timer runs out, or if one of the aforementioned special moves is successfully hit.

In addition to increased damage for the Screw Pile Driver and Borscht Dynamite, Screw Pile Driver can be special move canceled and will combo, leading to command throw combos that usually aren’t possible.

Dhalsim (Yoga Sansara) – Dhalsim creates a multi-hit orb of fire in front of him. This V-Trigger can also be performed in the air. Hitting the fire orb with Yoga Flame or Yoga Gale will change its properties.

Hitting the fire orb with Yoga Flame or Yoga Gale will put it in motion. Its trajectory will differ depending on the move used. The orb will keep moving while it’s on screen, and its trajectory can be further changed by hitting it again with Yoga Flame or Yoga Gale.

Laura (Shock Stance) – While active, Laura will be able to perform the dodge maneuver Matsuda Sway by pressing HP + HK. During Matsuda Sway, press HP + HK again to perform the command throw Shock Choke.

Matsuda Sway dodges non-throw attacks. Press forward with MP + MK during Matsuda Sway for a forward dash. Shock Choke can be performed from the dash, so Laura can use this to avoid her opponent’s big attacks and close the distance.

F.A.N.G (Koryo Dokuda) – Nishikyu and Ryobenda will be strengthened while active. With an increase in hits and the attack hitbox, this improves F.A.N.G’s ability to restrict his opponents movements.

While active, Nikankyaku can be performed from Nishikyu, giving F.A.N.G a way to close the distance and open up his opponent in close.

Alex (Rage Boost) – While in Rage Boost, Alex will gain the moves Flying DDT –  HP + HK, and Choke Sleeper –  HP + HK.

Flying DDT is a moving throw that works against standing opponents. In addition to being a surprising mid-range attack, Flying DDT can be canceled from moves that cause a lot of hit stun, resulting in somewhat long-range combo ability.

Choke Sleeper can be performed only after Flash Chop on hit or block, and on hit leaves Alex in close to continue his offensive pressure. Choke Sleeper only hits close range, so be mindful of the range at which the Flash Chop hits.

Ibuki (Fuma Shuriken) – Ibuki will throw a giant shuriken at the opponent, which comes back after going off-screen.

Press HP + HK for Fuma Shuriken – Haku, which is for use against grounded opponents, and press back plus HP + HK for Fuma Shuriken – Kokufu, which is angled upwards for anti-air usage.

Due to the length at which the shuriken is on screen, it serves to limit the opponent’s movements. Ibuki can continue to combo the opponent after hit, and if it’s blocked she can use her Airborne Kunai and Kasumigake to confuse the opponent’s attempts to block.

Guile (Knife Edge) – Knife Edge is a power-up V-Trigger for Guile’s Somersault Kick. The Somersault Kick will create a projectile that will be fired towards the opponent. This projectile can be on screen at the same time as Sonic Boom and Sonic Cross.

While active, Guile will perform two iterations of kicks for his EX Somersault Kick. The EX version doesn’t have the projectile like the normal version does, but is good for use in combos and counter attacks.

Urien (Tyrant Pressure) – While active, Urien gains the special move Tyrant Blaze, a multi-hit tackle attack. Hold down the buttons to charge the move – Urien will have super armor while charging, and charging changes the move properties.

While charging, Urien will have super armor, allowing him to absorb an attack. A maximum-charge Tyrant Blaze will guard break the opponent and put them into a juggle state.

Juri (Feng Shui Engine Beta) – Juri emits a field around her that drains her opponent’s EX gauge, taking it for her own.

The roundhouse kick she performs upon activation has a hitbox and draws the opponent in, giving her a good opportunity to absorb the opponent’s gauge. The gauge absorption effect is paused while Juri performs a throw and when she is in mid-air, so be sure to think wisely about your fighting methods while this V-Trigger is active.

Balrog (No Mercy) – While active, press HP + HK for the command throw B3.

If Balrog is having trouble opening his opponent up, this V-Trigger can help improve his offensive abilities while in close. B3 also deals a high amount of stun, so if the opponent already has a lot of stun built up, an active V-Trigger can make them feel pressured.

Akuma (Shiretsu Hasshi) – Using Shiretsu Hasshi, Akuma can link together powerful attacks using the V-Timer instead of the EX gauge. Grounded HP/HK attacks and each of his special moves can be canceled into EX special moves.

There are many moves he will be able to cancel into the EX special moves, giving him the ability to deal great damage from a number of situations.

Kolin (Absolute Zero) – While active, Kolin’s punch attacks and Hailstorm will be strengthened. Additionally, she has a forward dash where she will slide across the floor on a sheet of ice.

She can also press HP + HK to perform Frost Edge.

During this move, Kolin’s attacks will be given dash properties, similar to medium Vanity Step.  She can perform a high-speed Frost Edge from her forward dash, and if it hits, press HP + HK for Reverse Javelin, which will freeze the opponent and prevent them from recovering stun meter.

Ed (Enhanced Snatcher) – While active, press HP + HK to perform an enhanced version of the Psycho Snatcher, the Ultra Snatcher. Use the directional buttons to change between the ground and anti-air versions.

For Ultra Snatcher – Ground, Ed will fly towards the opponent with a strike. On hit he will be able to combo afterwards, and on block Ed will be at the advantage.

Ultra Snatcher – Air, can be used both as anti-air, and in juggle combos.

Abigail (Hybrid Charge) – While active, Abigail will be able to use the powerful tackle move Metro Crash by pressing HP + HK. It can be strengthened to a second level upon holding down the buttons.

Abigail will have hyper armor while charging, letting him absorb multiple hits. However, the charge will be vulnerable to throws and Critical Arts. Maximum charge Metro Crash will guard break, and Abigail keeps his hyper armor even while moving forward.

Menat (Prophecy of Thoth) – Prophecy of Thoth surrounds Menat with 6 Soul Power energy orbs. Use Judgement of Thoth to fire them all at once.

After Judgement of Thoth, Menat can get a new set of orbs by pressing HP + HK.
Use a reverse quarter circle (down to back) with different punch buttons to change the orb trajectory when firing, for use in controlling the opponent’s movements, anti-air, and extending combos.

Zeku (Karura Tenzan) – Both Old and Young Zeku share the same V-Trigger, Karura Tenzan. Upon activation Zeku moves forward with a launcher kick. If it connects, Zeku will switch identities and continue attacking.

It has priority against all non-grounded strike attacks, making it highly functional as a counter attack. Use the directional buttons to determine what side Zeku will land on after the additional attacks, allowing him to switch sides with his opponent.

Every single one of these new V-Triggers is playable at PlayStation Experience 2017 and Capcom Cup! If you already own Street Fighter V, all the gameplay-related content, including the second V-Triggers, will be part of a free game update on January 16, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and PC!

Devil May Cry HD Collection coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One on March 13, 2018

Dec 07, 2017 // Yuri Araujo

Grab your sickest red coat and Devil Arms and get ready to hunt demons in style in Devil May Cry HD Collection, coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One both digitally and at retail on March 13, 2018!

Since his debut back in 2001, Dante swiftly became a gaming icon, representing fun and challenging combat coated in a layer of stylish moves and crazy acrobatics that make you look like an absolute badass. We’re talking juggling enemies in the air with handgun bullets and even riding them around like skateboards. It’s that stylish potential that has drawn in and captivated fans worldwide; after all, who doesn’t like looking super cool?

So if you’re part of the group of people that didn’t raise their hands just now, we have just the collection for you, and the perfect jumping on point to get to know this irreverent character that has since appeared in various fighting games, puzzle games, RPGs and even had his own animated series. Featuring three games, silky smooth 60fps gameplay, and a wide variety of enemies, weapons and styles to experiment with, Devil May Cry HD Collection is the perfect compilation for those looking to get their stylish combat fix.

Here’s a quick overview of the three games in the package:

Devil May Cry (2001)

This is the one that started it all, starring a mature and subdued Dante, which matched the mood and tempo of the game’s sense of isolation during the exploration sequences and tough-as-nails boss battles. It’s also the game that inspired my favorite TV game ad of all time:

Devil May Cry 2 (2003)

Taking place after the events of the first Devil May Cry, this sequel strives for a more cinematic look and feel to combat, changing things up in how the camera behaves, but also taking extreme care to make the animations more natural and fluid. Plus, you can unlock and play as Trish, featuring her own unique weapons and move set.

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition (2006)

Focusing on the origins of our favorite demon hunter, this prequel features a much younger and more rambunctious Dante who cares very little about how much damage he’s doing to even his own shop as long as he can chew his pizza and kick some butt. And he runs out of pizza.

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition quickly took the spotlight as a fan favorite with the addition of combat Styles that significantly change the way you slay demons. These Styles can be selected and upgraded between each mission. This game also put a spotlight on Dante’s relationship with his twin brother Vergil, who is an unlockable character with his own move set and gameplay.

So whether you’re a fan of action games, a returning Devil May Cry fan, or just curious about Dante’s legendary original trilogy, you won’t want to miss Devil May Cry HD Collection, coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 13, 2018 both digitally and at retail for $29.99.

Free Versus Mode Demo Weekend for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Dec. 8-11! Venom, Winter Soldier, and Black Widow Out Now!

Dec 05, 2017 // Andy Wong

Following the successful Free Versus Demo Weekend for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite on November 24, we have decided to host another one from December 8-11! If you didn’t get a chance to partake last time, here’s your opportunity to play for an entire weekend. Continue reading for important details regarding who can participate and what the demo consists of!

Who can participate?

Only PlayStation Plus members have access to the Free Versus Mode Demo Weekend, and only on PlayStation 4. You’ll be able to play against other PS Plus members and also anyone who already owns a copy of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite on PlayStation 4.

When does it start and end?

America – December 8 at 8AM PST until December 11 at 8AM PST

Japan – December 8 at 9pm JST until December 11 at 11:59PM JST

Europe – December 8 at 12PM GMT until December 11 at 12PM GMT

Please note that precise timing may shift without notice.

You can pre-load the Free Versus Mode Demo today from the PlayStation Store!

What modes are available?

Training Mode – This is where you can learn how to play while discovering new combos, teams, and synergies. You’ll be up against a training dummy, so no need to prove yourself just yet!

Online Casual Match – The system will be searching for an Online Casual Match during your time in Training Mode. Once one is found, you can test your skills against another player!

What characters can I play?

All 30 launch characters will be available to play! This includes Thor, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Iron Man, Zero, Chun-Li, Chris Redfield, Frank West, and many more! What team will work for you?

Please note that Black Panther, Monster Hunter, Sigma, Venom, Black Widow, and Winter Soldier will not be playable in this demo.

Venom, Black Widow, and Winter Soldier Have Arrived

Venom – Eddie Brock returns to the Marvel vs. Capcom series with a plethora of tools at his disposal to keep the pressure going, even from across the screen. Venom Trap is a new Special Move that allows him to place a trap at any location on the ground, which will activate and grab opponents, rendering them vulnerable. Opponents will definitely be watching their step!

Black Widow – Natasha Romanova’s intense training as a spy helps her get out of sticky situations and into favorable ones. Black Widow is exceptional in close-ranged combat, especially with Covert Catch, a versatile command throw that can also be used in the air. If you’re looking for a more electrifying version, Hyper Covert Catch is a stylish Hyper Combo that only Natasha would be able to pull off.

Winter Soldier – Who needs control over the screen when you can send opponents across it with ease? Bucky Barnes has multiple Special Moves like Hard Blow and Patriot, which both cause a wall bounce, extending his combo potential. It’s not a coincidence his Lv3 Hyper Combo, Unyielding Justice, has the same name as Captain America’s. When partnered with Steve Rogers, Unyielding Justice has a special animation that sees both soldiers showing the opponent the true meaning of authority.

All three characters are now available for purchase individually or as part of the 2017 Character Pass, which also includes Black Panther, Monster Hunter, and Sigma!

Join the epic clash now! Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC!

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition – Arcade Mode Details

Dec 05, 2017 // Andy Wong

On January 16, 2018, the much-anticipated Arcade Mode arrives with Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition! We wanted to create a truly remarkable experience that tugs on the nostalgic heart strings of Street Fighter players around the world, and also continues our spectacular 30 th Anniversary celebration. Learn more about Arcade Mode by following the path after the jump.

Street Fighter made its impact in arcades everywhere when it first arrived on the scene, featuring Ryu and Ken as the only playable characters. Since then, over 60 characters have been introduced to the series hailing from all corners of Earth, each with their own backgrounds and reasons for fighting. In Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, you’ll be able to journey through six different paths, which represent each main title, to witness unique character endings that commemorates 30 years of Street Fighter .

Upon selecting Arcade on the main menu, you’ll be prompted to select which path to choose along with how many battles to expect. The available paths are Street Fighter, Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter III, Street Fighter IV, and Street Fighter V. You can also customize how many total rounds and the difficulty before starting.

Each path stays true to the characters present in the respective series. For example, you can only select Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Akuma, Laura, Urien, Alex, Kolin, and Ibuki in Street Fighter III’s Arcade path – Sean is represented through Laura while Kolin appears briefly in Gill’s intro.

You’ll find that after every battle, you have a choice on who to fight next, opening up the possibilities of a higher score if you’re confident in defeating the more difficult match ahead of you. Each month, Arcade Mode points are added up, and the player with the highest score will gain a unique Title!

In some paths, the Bonus Stage, which first appeared in the original Street Fighter, will be available where you’ll be tasked with breaking 20 barrels as they plummet into the center of the screen from conveyer belts above. You’ll have “help” from a computer-controlled character who will keep the barrels in the center using his own move set. Breaking all 20 won’t be a walk in the park, so be prepared to figure out what moves work best!

There’s no Arcade Mode without the endings! In Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, there are over 200 different endings featuring gorgeous illustrations from various artists. You can head into the Gallery to find out the unlock condition for each ending. They range from simply completing a path to getting a “Perfect” on the bonus stage. Can you unlock them all?

Finally, Arcade Mode will be playable at PlayStation Experience 2017 in Anaheim, California from Dec 9-10! This playable version of SFV: AE has been created specifically for this event and will not provide a complete experience. Contents may differ in the final version of the game.

December 5 Content Update – Potential Save Data Bug for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite for Xbox One Physical Disc Version

Dec 05, 2017 // Andy Wong

Please be aware that we have discovered a serious bug related to the December 5 content update that could potentially result in a loss of saved data for players who own the disc version of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite on Xbox One, under a specific rare circumstance.

  • Please note that for most players, this will not be an issue. The only situation where you will encounter this bug is if you have updated the game and have save data from the latest update, but later uninstall the game then reinstall from disc and attempt to use the save data without having applied the update. The updated save data and older game will be recognized as not compatible and the game may prompt you to create new save data as it may read the existing data as corrupt. Please do  not  create new save data as it will overwrite your previous save. Instead, please make sure you exit out and apply the latest update before you play the game. This will then ensure your save data stays intact and will work properly. Again, you will only lose your save data if you choose to accept the option to create a new save in this scenario, which would overwrite your prior data.
  • If you have save data from the latest update and at some point later do need to re-install the game from your disc, please make sure you connect to Xbox Live and apply the latest update after reinstalling from the disc but before you play the game.
  • Unfortunately due to the nature of the bug, there is no current fix available but if proper steps are followed, it can be avoided. This is only known to affect Xbox One physical disc versions under the specific condition above.

READY? Mega Man 11 is coming in Late 2018!

Dec 04, 2017 // Kellen Haney

Thirty years ago, in 1987, a super robot named Mega Man was created. In 2018, the fight for everlasting peace will continue! Today during our big Mega Man 30 th Anniversary Twitch live show, we revealed a brand new Mega Man game. Mega Man 11 is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in late 2018! All of us at Capcom celebrated the Blue Bomber’s grand return as part of the Mega Man 30 th Anniversary Celebration with a Twitch stream dedicated to the beloved ‘bot, featuring special guests, developer interviews, and more! Check out the archive to watch the festivities unfold, and read on for more info about today’s announcements!

30th Anniversary Stream

Streamer Showdown Pre-show featuring Mega Ran, Projared, and Usedpizza

“Wily” performed by Mega Ran

It’s been nearly 30 years since Rock, Dr. Light’s robot lab assistant, first volunteered to be converted into a fighting robot and our hero’s place was cemented as a legendary video game icon, influencing and inspiring the action-platformer genre for years to come. Today we’re pleased to introduce you to an all-new chapter to the series’ storied history. Mega Man 11 brings a fresh new design and incredible 2.5D visuals to the classic series, leaping into the modern era of gaming with beautiful 3D-modeled characters and hand-drawn environments. Everything you know and love about the Blue Bomber and much more is here in a brand-new style! With an expert development team at Capcom, many of whom have been working at the company since the early 8-bit era, we’re revitalizing and revolutionizing Mega Man for a new generation while keeping the series’ tight classic gameplay and the heart of our beloved hero intact. Veterans can expect the series’ signature challenge, and we’re inviting new players to the mix with a variety of difficulty options to choose from in the game.

This is Mega Man just as you remember him, filled with the same determination to take down Dr. Wily’s mad machines and put an end to his evil schemes. Jump, shoot, and slide your way through unique and colorful environments, then defeat Robot Masters to claim their weapons as your own. Mega Man has received some upgrades, too.

Aside from a new look with subtle changes to his classic style, Mega Man will change more than his color when he swaps to a Robot Master’s weapon – his entire appearance will change, too! You noticed it in the trailer, right? Eagle-eyed fans like Protodude got a glimpse of the future from a hint we slipped into Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 earlier this year. Speaking of the classics, there’ll be returning characters, as well, including faithful robot canine companion Rush, who you can see in action in the trailer, and Mega Man’s sister who’s always ready to do her part, Roll, who you can see in the art below!

I hope this news comes as a pleasant surprise and we thank you for your patience! We’ll have much more to share with you all on Mega Man 11 in Summer of 2018! Speaking of Summer, we also announced that we’re bringing all eight games from the Mega Man X series to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in Summer 2018! Set in the far-off future of 21XX, fans of this more mature take on the classic formula will have plenty of reason to rejoice when the wall-jumping, armor-wearing, Maverick hunting X makes his debut on modern consoles with Zero and Axl in tow. We’ll have more to share on this in the coming months.

Finally, with the announcement of a new numbered entry, now is a great time to revisit all of the Blue Bomber’s classic adventures! We’ve heard your requests, and Mega Man Legacy Collection , which includes 1-6 and Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, featuring 7-10 are coming to Nintendo Switch – play on the go, at home, or everywhere in between in preparation for Mega Man 11! We’re adding a Rewind feature to the first Mega Man Legacy Collection which will help you turn back the clock if you make a mistake or just need a moment to recover in the challenging 8-bit originals. These collections of retro classics will be out in Spring of 2018. Existing owners of the first collection featuring the original 8-bit entries can look forward to the Rewind feature rolling out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in Spring of 2018 as well.

It’s an incredible time to be a Mega Man fan, and the 30 th anniversary festivities are only just beginning with today’s announcements! There’s been a lot of great news today, so to recap:

  • Mega Man 11, a brand new game in the legendary series, will be out in late 2018 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PCs.
  • All 8 Mega Man X games will also be coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PCs in Summer 2018
  • Mega Man Legacy Collection and Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 will be coming to Nintendo Switch in Spring 2018.

Stay tuned to the Capcom Unity blog for all the latest, or follow @MegaMan on Twitter and Mega Man on Facebook for all the latest news.

Janet Hsu: Happy Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney launch to one and all! I got my copy from the  Nintendo eShop  – I hope you’ve got yours!

Honestly, I can’t believe it’s been ten years since we originally released this game, but so many of you have shown this game and its characters so much love that I wanted to say “Thank you!” by sharing some of my favorite AJ:AA fanworks, starting with the adorable piece of art:  Apollo Justice Chibi Par-tay by weem (2009). I love how it includes almost every character, and they’re each doing their own very in-character thing. Extra bonus points for Valant’s magical bunnies and dove.

Check out a smattering of awesome Ace Attorney fan creations from the game’s localization director herself in the full blog entry here.

Patrick Kulikowski: If you know me well enough, you may see me occasionally joke about classic Capcom anthems like Takashi Tateishi’s “Dr. Wily Stage 1” from Mega Man 2 and Hiroshige Tonomura’s “The Moon” from Duck Tales being “too popular”.

Today is the day where I eat my own words — just LISTEN to this new, amazing rendition of Duck Tales’ “The Moon” as done by game composer Jukio “Kuabee” Kallio (Luftrausers, Nuclear Throne). This version uses the same sound palette (or “font”, if you will) employed by the game Bleed 2, so you can expect some sick guitar/synth action and pounding drums, not to mention uber-80s tom fills!

Man, just talking about it makes me want to boot up The Disney Afternoon Collection and defy gravity with some pixel-perfect pogo jumps. <3

Speaking of passionate fans, the Breath of Fire Relay II marathon handled by the folks at RPG Limit Break that we mentioned in our previous recap took place on November 24 th . After 31 hours, 8 minutes, and 3 seconds, Team Ryu emerged the victor, with Team Deis taking 2 nd place (31:09:31), Team Nina in 3 rd (31:36:53) and the one-man army of Team Jenja, aka “The Brave Man of the Dragon” taking last place with 34:20:58. Great work to all involved, and congrats on getting featured on Game Informer ! Twitch videos of the marathon can be watched below:

STICKY NOTE: Did you make something cool? Send us a note or drop a comment below; we would love to feature your work here! Same goes for any awesome stuff you may see in the wild; we always welcome more fantastic fan work. =)

As always, keep a close eye on the Capcom Unity blog for all the latest, greatest, marvelous news and updates . Catch you next week!

Monster Hunter: World PlayStation Plus Beta details

Dec 01, 2017 // Yuri Araujo

UPDATE: We’ve just announced a 2nd Beta, and this time it’s open to ALL PlayStation 4 players (PS Plus no longer required). I’ve updated the dates below to reflect the new Beta.

December 9 is fast approaching and I trust that you already blocked the entire day (and weekend?) off on your calendars. Now it’s time to get you some additional details so you know what and when you can expect to start hunting during the Monster Hunter: World beta.

Start Time: December 22 , 2017 at 9:00am PT / 5:00pm GMT / 6:00pm CET

End Time: December 26 , 2017 at 8:59am PT / 4:59pm GMT / 5:59pm CET

Location : Your gaming room + the Internet

Requirements : Internet connection, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Plus subscription, 5.9 GB of free space, hunting spirit

Quests : The beta features 3 quests across 2 environments from the game. In the Ancient Forest, you can hunt a fierce yet beginner-friendly Great Jagras or as a more experienced player confront the mighty threat of an Anjanath. In the Wildspire Waste, a massive, dry expanse with swamplands, you can face off against the intermediate level mud-slinging Barroth.

Rewards : In addition to an unquantifiable amount of fun, complete each quest and you’ll get some useful bonus items in the full game! Just make sure you use the same Sony Entertainment Network account for both the beta and the full game.

Additional Notes: Each quest can be done solo or with up to three other players online, and you’ll be able to choose from 14 different weapon types based on your preferred playstyle, which you can now change during quests at camp. You can even try out each of them before heading out on a quest by visiting the series’ all-new Training Room , included in the beta! Potions and other supplies will be provided on quests during the beta, but you’ll have to fetch your own food and drinks outside the game for those long gameplay sessions.

And one final note – this beta is just a taste for what the quests will look and feel like in the full game. The beta features a game currently in development and some aspects about balance may be different from the full game, but the satisfaction of tracking and bringing down a giant monster you’ll find is all there.

Stay tuned to our official channels for more info, tips and tricks about the Monster Hunter: World beta. Happy Hunting!
