Resident Evil 6 Is Now Available On PlayStation 4 & Xbox One!

Mar 29, 2016 // Tim

The deadly C-Virus has now been unleashed upon a new generation of systems. You can now download Resident Evil 6 and embark on a massive co-op adventure for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is available digitally everywhere for MSRP $19.99, and U.S. Resident Evil fans can also grab physical versions at the same price for their collections.

Resident Evil 6 stars a collection of extensive, action-packed campaigns, including series veterans Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Sherry Birkin, and Ada Wong. The C-Virus is spreading at a rapid rate across the world, forcing the hand of anti-bioterrorism operatives to eradicate the outbreak and its deadly mutations. Players can team up with a friend for two-player cooperative action throughout each campaign (split-screen or online). When playing online, special battles bolster the number of player-controlled co-op allies from two to four, which is helpful when facing off against foes like the powerful, persistent Ustanak.

This release of Resident Evil 6 comes packed with all the multiplayer and Mercenaries modes released via DLC for consoles (including No Mercy mode originally available only on PC). In addition, the new Cycle Mode automatically places you in recommended multiplayer modes, like 3 vs. 3 Siege Mode or Survivors Mode, which is playable as a free-for-all or team battle. Resident Evil 6 also includes each character’s alternate costumes, including polygonal classic PlayStation-era variants and stylish EX versions of each character, such as a swashbuckling Leon.

Not only is Resident Evil 6 out now, but you can look forward to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 4 coming later this year.

You can also take a look at Resident Evil 6’s new box art below. Be sure to check out the rest of the screenshots in our Facebook gallery.

Devil May Cry 4 SE Kinetiquettes dioramas coming soon

Mar 25, 2016 // Kellen Haney

“I met the sons of Sparda – both of them. Though the same blood of their father flow through their veins, the two battled each other fiercely like arch enemies. It seems as if they drive some twisted pleasure from this brotherly fighting.”

The masters at Kinetiquettes are at it again, bringing together the two sons of Sparda as they appear in Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition! In their human forms, Dante and his brother, Vergil (who first appeared in DMC1, but is perhaps best remembered from DMC3, quoted above), are depicted with weapons at the ready – Dante with his twin handguns, Ebony and Ivory, and Vergil with his katana, Yamato. But those who know about these two brothers know that it isn’t just human blood running through their veins….

The Devil Trigger versions of both Dante and Vergil feature them with their signature weapons – Dante striking with Rebellion, and Vergil with an unsheathed Yamato – already on the offensive! We’ll have more information on these dioramas for you soon, but in the meantime, enjoy some (very!) high-quality shots of the dioramas below, and turnaround shots of the individual sculptures available at Kinetiquettes’ site (fair warning if you’re on mobile data, it’s 11MB!). Pre-orders for Dante, Vergil, Devil Trigger Dante, and Devil Trigger Vergil are expected to open later this year, so stay tuned!

Now, on to those images….

Mar 24, 2016 // haunts

The first drop will take place on March 28 (MON) and contains the following content:

      • Character Tutorials: 16 lessons covering each individual character.
    • Trials: Put your skills to the ultimate test with combo trials for all 16 characters, ranging from basic to pro combos.  Completing Trials will also earn you some extra Fight Money.

    • Salty from a close loss online? Want revenge?  Players can now play a 2/3 set in Ranked Match and Casual Matches, provided both players accept the rematch.
  • Battle Lounge Improvements
    • Enjoy up to 8 person lobbies, complete with match spectating.
  • Bug fixes and gameplay balancing
    • Various game bugs have been fixed, along with minor gameplay balancing. For more details please see the previous post .

The second drop will take place on March 30 (WED) at 10AM PT and contains the following content:

  • Alex + related character story content
  • In-Game Shop
    • Fight Money Expenditure: Spend your hard earned Fight Money to purchase extra game content, such as DLC characters (100,000 FM each) and the Story Mode Costumes (40,000 FM each).

One feature that will not be making it into the March update will be the Zenny (real money) functionality of the in-game shop. We have taken a long hard look at this part of the store, and after much review, have decided it is not ready to launch just yet. As Zenny is purchased with real money, we wanted to be extra careful and make sure it’s fully tested and optimized before launching it. There is currently no ETA on the Zenny store and we will release it as soon as it’s ready.

We realize that this causes an inconvenience to fans who want to purchase the DLC characters, such as Alex, but do not have enough Fight Money or own the Season Pass.  To address this, we will be making Alex available for free as a trial period to all players, until the Zenny shop launches .  This also will apply to any future DLC character that releases prior to the Zenny shop launching. Once the Zenny shop launches, the free trial for any DLC characters that released prior to the Zenny shop opening will end, and players will need to either use Fight Money, Zenny, or the Season Pass to access those characters.

Any DLC character related content (such as costumes) that is purchased with Fight Money during the trial period will remain in your account once the trial period ends, but you’ll need to purchase Alex to use that content. The same goes for colors and character progress, etc. that are earned during the trial period; everything will be saved, you’ll just need to purchase the character to resume your progress once the trial period ends.

As a special bonus to our Season Pass users, they will be the only ones who will be able to access the premium costumes of the DLC characters until the Zenny shop launches, and they also get to keep character access once the free trial period ends. Additionally, we will be giving all Season Pass users a free, brand new stage in the near future!

Finally, as a way of saying thanks for everyone’s patience and understanding throughout the beta phases and game launch we will be making Ryu and Chun-Li’s story mode costumes available for free to all users on March 30 as well.  This is an 80,000 Fight Money value, almost the full value of a DLC character.

Thank you for continuing to support Street Fighter V and we promise that the game will continue to improve from here on out. More new updates, fixes and support for other pressing issues like rage quitters are in the works and we hope to have more information to share soon.

Until next time!

Remembering The Classic Resident Evil Games That Started It All

Mar 24, 2016 // Tim

This week is the 20 th anniversary of Resident Evil, and we’re thrilled to kick off a macabre, year-long celebration commemorating the birth of survival horror. We’ll be delivering videos, livestreams, developer diaries, and more to pay tribute to the king of horror games. Today we reflect on the series’ enduring and varied history, looking back on the unforgettable main entries that Resident Evil’s fans have survived over the last two decades.

The Resident Evil series has come a long way since it released in Japan on March 22, 1996, but the original three PlayStation games played a critical role in solidifying the series’ future. The Resident Evil franchise has also played a huge role in my life, so I’m adding in my personal perspective in how each core game impacted me. Please join me by sharing your memories in the comments below.

Resident Evil
Year: 1996
Platforms: PlayStation (Launch), PC, Sega Saturn, Nintendo DS

The iconic S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team’s maddening one-night stay in the Spencer Mansion is unforgettable. Resident Evil stood out the moment bodies started dropping in its live-action intro, which like other one-liners (who hasn’t heard a “Jill sandwich” joke by now?) has become infamously and endearingly cheesy over time. Legitimate terror greeted players brave enough to venture deep into the mansion, from zombies bursting out of closets to the introduction of the vicious Hunters. Before Resident Evil, few games made players cherish every shotgun shell or healing herb quite the same way. The mansion may have exploded into millions of pieces, but the foundation of our love for Resident Evil was cemented forever.

Tim’s Take: My first experience with Resident Evil happened at the ripe age of 11 – probably too early by my parents’ standards. Without warning, my cousin flicked off the lights and booted up his PlayStation. I sat mute as he explored the halls of the mansion, my muscles tensing with every camera angle change or distant zombie moan. I still recall believing that a Hunter leapt out of the walls and swiftly decapitated Jill. What twisted tricks did this twisted game have in store? That night ended with my cousin battling the Tyrant in the hidden lab beneath the mansion. The CG cutscene introducing the gigantic monstrosity with an exposed heart was cutting-edge at the time. The beast terrified me. I lay awake at night for too long believing the Tyrant would emerge from my aunt and uncle’s creepy basement, clawed hand raised for attack. I finally fell asleep after convincing myself that the Tyrant’s nine-foot frame wouldn’t fit through the doorway.

Resident Evil 2
Year: 1998
Platform: PlayStation (Launch), PC, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, GameCube

True horror, like the evil Umbrella Company’s deadly viruses, can’t be contained. Two years after the original game, Resident Evil 2 delivered players a grander, more intense experience as the zombie outbreak spread into Raccoon City. Series mainstay Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie RPD officer with the worst training day ever, joins up with Claire Redfield as she searches for her brother, S.T.A.R.S. member Chris. Leon and Claire’s paths diverge as they survive on Raccoon City’s zombie-infested streets, explore the enigmatic RPD station, and encounter the mad mind behind Umbrella’s lab in a huge underground lab. Resident Evil 2’s branching, intertwined scenarios delivered unfathomable new depth for players craving more. Fans’ appetites for RE 2 won’t be truly satisfied until they know more about the recently confirmed and highly anticipated remake.

Tim’s Take: Resident Evil’s hooks were in me after my horror-loving cousin exposed me to the original. I remember how the substantial, double-disc jewel case intimidated me with the expansive challenge it was sure to contain (Little did I know how complex and gargantuan playing the A and B scenarios for both Leon and Claire would be). Surviving on the overrun streets of Raccoon City was exactly what I wanted from a follow up to my favorite horror game. I’ve dodged the initial flaming zombies on the way to Kendo’s Gun Shop that I could almost do it blindfolded (don’t hold me to that). I’ll always remember the first time fighting my way to the RPD station for and breathing a sigh of relief as the gentle piano music settled in.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Year: 1999
Platforms: PlayStation (Launch), PC, Dreamcast, GameCube

Leon and Claire weren’t the only duo trying to escape Raccoon City alive, as Jill Valentine returned in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis alongside Carlos Oliveira, a hired Umbrella gun with a heart of gold. Jill’s last escape wasn’t easy, either. A deadly, tenacious bio-organic weapon called Nemesis relentless stalked the former S.T.A.R.S. member through the streets. Nemesis is among the Resident Evil series’ most iconic villains thanks to his infectious grasp, powerful rocket launcher, and nasty habit of striking players when they least expect it. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis ends with Raccoon City’s irreversible infection being cleansed by a high-destructive missile. The sleepy, Midwestern town of Raccoon City may have been eradicated, but the outbreak was just about to go global.

Tim’s Take: I remember purchasing Dino Crisis solely for the purpose of acquiring the Resident Evil 3: Nemesis demo disc (Luckily, Regina’s adventures in Dino Crisis were worth the price of admission). This sneak peek of Jill Valentine’s return built upon everything I loved about exploring Raccoon City in Resident Evil 2 while injecting the most terrifying villain in the series to date. I had an idea that my mom was planning on buying me RE 3 for my birthday, but I wanted it so bad that I jumped the gun and bought it anyway (she wasn’t happy). Few words can describe the intense feeling of dread I still experience when I hear a door open and shut, accompanied by Nemesis’s snarling and tense chase music. Returning to the RPD building before the events of Resident Evil 2 was also a treat for obsessive fans like me. RE 3 with Nemesis’s constant pressure and challenging boss battles, will always give me a sense of profound relief upon seeing the credits roll.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of our Resident Evil 20 th Anniversary Retrospective coming soon. In the meantime, veteran Resident Evil producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi recounts his life spent developing the iconic series , from the monsters lurking in the Spencer Mansion to the latest, exciting globetrotting adventures.

Naomi Kyle at Zombie Boot Camp

Mar 23, 2016 // Jeffery Simspon

If you’re going to play a zombie in the movies, you come to the zombie experts for training. At Capcom Vancouver we’ve been wrangling digital zombies for years thanks to our work on the Dead Rising series.

After our star turn as shambling undead extras in Dead Rising: Endgame  we were more than ready to prepare actor and game industry personality Naomi Kyle for her own time on the set. Though Kyle was already familiar with our Dead Rising games Capcom Vancouver’s Trant Lee-Amies walked her through the detailed lore of the series. Then it was time for Naomi to learn how to kill zombies, both virtual and real.

To take on real flesh eating monsters she handled Capcom Vancouver’s stock of combo weapons that we’ve gathered both from the Dead Rising games as well as the original film Dead Rising: Watchtower .

Then it was time to get her game on as Trant and Naomi played a few rounds of Dead Rising 3: Super Ultra Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX + α . Choosing Annie as Chun-Li Kyle was soon delivering spinning kicks to hordes of undead as she fought her way through the chaotic madness of our retro inspired game.

Next up was the reason she’d come to us in the first place: Zombie Boot Camp. Trant, who had played a zombie the week before, explained the zombification process and how to act and move while she was searching for fresh brains to eat. Then the Capcom Vancouver Zombie Extras entered to help her get into the character as part of a zombie horde.

Later that day Naomi was on the Vancouver set of Dead Rising: Endgame fully trained for her role as a zombie having passed boot camp with flying colours. You can see Naomi as well as all the Capcom Vancouver zombies when Dead Rising: Endgame is released.

Resident Evil Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi Reflects On 20 Years Of Horror

Mar 22, 2016 // Tim

The survival horror genre was born 20 years ago on March 22, 1996 with the release of Resident Evil. The PlayStation classic succeeded in terrifying players with flesh-eating zombies and the foreboding atmosphere of the mansion. The revolutionary horror title couldn’t have happened without the work of the talented and sadistically creative developers at Capcom, including franchise veteran Hiroyuki Kobayashi. To kick off the 20th Anniversary or Resident Evil, Kobayashi discusses time working with the trend-setting series in a new video.

In the video below, producer Kobayashi discusses his perspective on the past 20 years of Resident Evil, from his work on the PlayStation original to the present. Kobayashi recalls his role on the very first Resident Evil programming a variety of memorable enemies from pesky crows to a certain abomination lurking deep within Umbrella’s secret lab. He also touches on the revolutionary gameplay of Resident Evil 4 and how it influenced his work on the series. Finally, Kobayashi-san delivers a special message directly to Resident Evil fans across the world.

The celebration of Resident Evil’s 20 strong years doesn’t end there. Be sure to check back today for Part 1 of our retrospective of the core Resident Evil titles.
