Umbrella Corps Coming in May!

Jan 26, 2016 // Harrison Young

We have a bunch of new info to share about Umbrella Corps! First off, we can confirm that it’s coming out in May this year for digital download on PlayStation 4 and PC. The game will support 1-6 players and though it’s mostly focused on online competitive team battles, there’s a newly confirmed single player mode called “The Experiment”. Click the jump for more info on these and more new details along with new screenshots and a trailer showing off the goods.

When the game was first revealed, we announced the One Life Match mode and the Umbrella Laboratory map, but we have more in store for you. You will also be able to fight in the Resident Evil 4 inspired Village with Ganados that aren’t too happy about the constant gun fights and the newly imagined Tricell organization HQ from Resident Evil 5 where blood-thirsty Cerberus dogs are added to the mix. You’ll roam these maps in both multiplayer and in “The Experiment” single player mode, where you fight enemies that change per stage in over 20 missions with varying objectives. You won’t be able to use the handy Zombie Jammer that normally keeps the creatures away though, so good luck!

And in case you need a refresh on what Umbrella Corps is all about – it’s a new fast-paced third person shooter that blends Capcom’s experience in competitive games, tense scenarios and previous shooting games with a Resident Evil undertone. With many of the dev team members being airsoft enthusiasts, they wanted to take the exciting keep-you-on-your-toes tension that both Resident Evil and airsoft have to offer to create a new experience that fans haven’t seen before from a shooting game.

The close-quarters maps emphasize the “kill quick or die” mantra that’s at the core of the gameplay. This isn’t a shooter that’s about leveling up your guns or experience points, it’s more about your own skill level and creating the best strategy to eliminate your opponents so your team can be victorious. And of course there’s plenty of Resident Evil-ness to go around. In addition to the RE-inspired maps, you’ve also got zombies and other creatures to deal with on top of the opposing team. But we’ve got you covered – you’ll get equipment like the Zombie Jammer that (as long as it’s intact) helps keep away the creatures, plus the Brainer axe for a quick melee kill and Terrain Spikes to take the high ground and get the edge on your opponents. In a pinch you can also put your Tactical Shield to use to latch on a wandering zombie that can serve as cover from enemy fire.

Join the corps and get ready for some intense action when the game comes out in May this year on PlayStation 4 and PC!

Street Fighter V Story Details and Final Beta

Jan 25, 2016 // ComboFiend

Hey everyone!

I’ve been itching to tell you all about this for the longest time and now I finally can! We are happy to reveal the single player story details for Street Fighter V! There are two main components to the story experience: Character Stories and the Cinematic Story Expansion. Details below!

  • Character Stories

  • We knew there would be a lot of new players who are jumping into the franchise for the very first time so we wanted to provide a way for everyone to become familiar with the eclectic personalities of each fighter. Each character has their own storyline that provides background information on what drives them to fight, and what their relationships are to the other characters.

  • Each story has been illustrated by renowned Japanese illustrator, Bengus, who worked on a variety of Capcom titles in the past. I think you’ll find his colorful, throwback style fits perfectly with the background tales we want to tell about each character. What answers does Ryu seek in his never-ending journey? What happened to Charlie Nash after his apparent demise in Street Fighter Alpha? Who is Necalli and what does he want? Play the Character Stories to find out all these answers and more! Once you complete all of them you’ll be ready for the next part of the story experience, which is…

  • Cinematic Story Expansion

  • For the first time in franchise history, we are creating a cinematic story experience that takes players deep into the Street Fighter action and mythology through beautifully rendered cutscenes. The Story Expansion will be available to all players as a FREE content update, releasing in June 2016. Chronologically in the Street Fighter storyline, it takes place between the events of Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter III, and fully explains everything that transpired in that electrifying time period.
  • If you got goosebumps from watching the trailer, know that you are definitely NOT alone. As you can see from the trailer, M. Bison and Shadaloo will be a main focus of the story…and I can’t say much more than that right now, but if you watch closely you’ll see a multitude of hints that we dropped in the footage. We’ll have more details to share about this FREE update in the coming months so stay tuned!

Finally, as a big THANK YOU to all the fans who have supported us throughout the year, we are holding one final beta starting January 30 at 12:01 AM PT (8:01 AM GMT), and ending January 31 at 7 PM PT (February 1 at 3 AM GMT). If you have been on the fence about getting the game, this will be your last chance to try it out before release so be sure to pre-order at streetfighter.com/purchase for beta access, as well as exclusive costumes! I mean, just look at this guy!

That’s all for now. Till’ next time!

Learn the References for All of Rebecca’s DLC Outfits

Jan 21, 2016 // Harrison Young

With Resident Evil 0 released, folks are jumping back in and getting a nice taste of that old-school survival horror action. But in every Resident Evil game, there’s a few nods to other titles hidden here and there, so we wanted to shed light on one (or four) of them. We’ve already discussed the references and homages that the two pre-order bonus costume packs had (which you can read here and here if you missed). But now that the game is out, we’d like to look at some of the additional costumes for Rebecca that are available as downloadable content, and what they all mean.

Hit the jump, and we’ll take a look at the four costumes in the order of their source of inspiration!

First, we have the S.T.A.R.S. Prototype outfit.  As the name implies, this is actually the version of Rebecca that appears in the 1999 prototype version of Resident Evil 0 that we’ve been lucky enough to show you over the past couple months (and if you haven’t seen the videos yet, you can watch them here and here ). We’re digging the beret!

Second, we have the S.T.A.R.S. 1996 outfit, which comes from the very first release of Resident Evil a full 20 years ago. Rebecca’s headwear of choice at the time was a bandana, and she was wearing what looks like an ineffective bullet proof vest, but we won’t hold it against her. (Technically, the costume is based upon the in-game model of Rebecca, but we wanted an excuse to show the live-action version here.)

Third on the list is the S.T.A.R.S. 1997 outfit. This actually comes from the Director’s Cut of Resident Evil, which came out a year after the original (hence the name). When you were playing in the Arrange Mode, all the playable characters would wear new costumes, and Rebecca actually did too, donning this red-and-white look.

And finally, we have this Sportswear outfit. At first, this one seems a bit out of left field. However, it actually comes from one of Resident Evil 2’s most outlandish Easter eggs. In that game, if you, for some reason, searched Wesker’s desk…fifty times…consecutively…you would suddenly find a roll of film. You could then develop this film in the dark room, where you’d get a photo of a basketball-loving Rebecca. The implications of Wesker having this photo are something we won’t dive into, but it makes a neat costume!

These costumes are available in packs (S.T.A.R.S. Prototype and S.T.A.R.S. 1996 are a pair, as are S.T.A.R.S. 1997 and Sportswear), or you can buy a complete pack, which also includes the pre-order bonus costumes. But remember, it doesn’t matter what you dress up as, so long as you aim for the head!

Big Boys Toys T.N.C. 03 Chun-Li pre-orders kick off

Jan 21, 2016 // Kellen Haney

Hyakuretsukyaku! Though it’s gone by many names over the years (I called it “Lightning Legs” as a kid), Chun-Li has always been known for her speed and her powerful kicks, represented best in her signature move. Big Boys Toys has made the iconic World Warrior into the newest challenger in their “T.N.C.” line – which has showcased Ryu and Ken in the past – and now adds Chun-Li to the roster. Pre-orders are available at Play-Asia’s Street Fighter T.N.C. 03: Chun-Li store page right now for $89.99 (USD), with expected shipping in February! Hit the jump for more info, including a video of the figure’s light-up features.

If you aren’t able to check out the video above (or if you just really like text descriptions), this Chun-Li figure is battery powered, and the energy from her kicks light up in succession when you press the button on the base. Sure, you can press it once to light up a single kick, but you can hold the button – or mash it out 1991 style – to light up each kick in rapid succession, bringing the hyakuretsukyaku to life! You don’t want to kick yourself for missing this one, so head on over to the order page and get your pre-order in while there’s still time!

Jan 20, 2016 // Kellen Haney

With Street Fighter V less than a month away(!), the folks over at Prima Games have outdone themselves with their Collector’s Edition strategy guide for Street Fighter V , a hardcover tome of everything Street Fighter V. For those who like frame data, every attack in the game for every character is listed, including startup, active frames, recovery, damage, stun, and more. For those who just like framing things, a frame-ready art print of Ryu and Ken will be included as well – and that’s not including an extensive 16-page art gallery featuring series newcomers F.A.N.G, Laura, Necalli, and Rashid!

Regardless of if you’re the champion of your local tournament scene or if you don’t know a fierce punch from a fireball, this guide will help you on your journey to the top. In addition to full frame data, character combos, and special moves, you’ll also get comprehensive character strategy – great for learning both how to play as and play against every character in the lineup! And as if that weren’t enough, the collector’s edition also comes with a free, mobile-friendly eGuide, which will be updated to include frame data, game changes, and the first season of DLC (up to one year post game release). The collector’s edition guide will be out the same day as Street Fighter V – February 16th, 2016 – and retails for $39.99 USD.

You know where the answer lies. RISE UP!
