MH4U MAD: having fun with the Sharq Byte Lance

May 08, 2015 // Yuri Araujo

Sometimes you see something in a game you love that makes you start laughing uncontrollably at how weird or goofy, or just plain fun, it can be. Then you may move on with your day and seldom think about it; OR… you make the wackiest possible video about it! Just like this tribute to the Sharq Byte Lance in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate :

Alright, alright; you should stop re-watching this for the seventeenth time now… if you can! The tune played in the video is actually a cover of a Hatsune Miku song and it’s so upbeat and fun it matches perfectly with the goofy tone of the whole piece.

Anyways, the original video was posted on NicoNico , so if you have an account there, make sure to give it a click , but I’ll leave with you my favorite shot, that highlights just how creative this group was. Check it out: they made it seem like the hunters were grilling a shark just with in-game actions!

Well, that’s that. Have a great weekend!

Mega Man & Bass kicks off Mega May for NA Wii U eShop

May 07, 2015 // Minish Capcom

Last month you voted on which GBA game would kick off “Mega May,” and the result is a secret no longer!

Right now you can pick up Mega Man & Bass on the Wii U Virtual Console, with another GBA Mega Man title to follow each Thursday in May.

For those who missed this title back in 2003, you can play as Mega Man or Bass, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Bass, for example, has that highly useful diagonal shot and a dash, while Mega Man retains his signature slide and chargeable Mega Buster.

It’s a colorful, interesting entry that many missed during its initial run, so give it a look on the (North American) Wii U eShop.

Check back next Thursday for more Mega May, and also check out Nintendo’s Mega May landing page !

Misadventures of Tron Bonne now available on North American PSN Store

May 06, 2015 // GregaMan

Something very special has happened today, guys, and I hope you’ll join me in celebrating. The long-thought-not-likely-to-happen release of PlayStation sleeper-charmer The Misadventures of Tron Bonne as a PSN PSone Classic has in fact happened!  Pick it up on the North American PSN Store today and play it on your PS3, PSP, or PS Vita.

To give a little background, TMOTB first hit North American store shelves in 2000 with a limited run, quickly becoming a rarity and skyrocketing in value. A quick eBay search yesterday yielded several incomplete copies of the game going for more than $100. A sealed copy can go for more than $400. I know there are lot of people—even Mega Man Legends fans—who missed this one when it released UGGGHHH FIFTEEN YEARS AGO, so it’s totally awesome that you can now pick it up for six bucks and even play it on the go. That’s what these rereleases are all about!

For the completely uninitiated, TMOTB is sort of a spin-off of a spin-off, building on the charming world, aesthetic, and characters of the Mega Man Legends games from a new angle: leaving MegaMan Volnutt and the Caskett brigade on the sidelines, the game focuses instead on the travails of beloved anti-heroine and “air pirate” extraordinaire Tron Bonne, who must take on a variety of missions to earn money to pay off her brother’s astronomical debt.

Gameplay is divided into several diverse mini-campaigns, each with completely different mechanics—some RPG-inspired, some adventure-inspired, some puzzular, and some very akin to the explosive action of the mainline Mega Man Legends games. All of this is tied together via a delightful central hub—the Gesellschaft airship (ironically the cause of the Bonnes’ debt in the first place)—where Tron can chat with, train, and recruit her lovable, motley army of Servbots. Servbot management is a highly addictive element that takes a cue or two from Japan’s well-established sports management genre and truly sets this game apart as a unique classic.

Given this game’s quality and rarity, I personally feel like this may be the most deserved classic rerelease out there, so I really hope people pick it up , enjoy it, and spread the word.
