DmC: Definitive Edition Style Tournament – Grand Prize Winner

Jun 03, 2015 // GregaMan

It’s been a long road peppered with passion, panache, technical mishaps and a strange sort of competitive camaraderie mirroring that occasionally seen in Dante and Vergil themselves, but we can finally crown a grand prize winner in the DmC Style Tournament.

First off, we have our Dante submissions. Each Finalist submitted a Dante clip. Here’s a recap:

Our Dante showing was strong, but in the end the Dante vote was taken by SteeleSerpent, who secured 40% of the electorate, which translates to 12 votes. Zeno Xyvorean came in second with 9 votes.

For this Final Round, our Finalists were also required to each create a Vergil submission. This would prove to make or break. Here’s a recap:

Once again, the vote came down to SteeleSerpent and Zeno Xyvorean. Steele nabbed 9 votes, while Zeno took a solid 16. Which means….

Zeno Xyvorean takes it, with a total of 25 votes!!

Congrats, Zeno, you will be shipped a Grand Prize as soon as it becomes available. Our other Finalists will receive Japanese retail copies of  Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition .

Great job to all who participated, and look forward to our 4SE style tournament following the game’s release on June 23rd!

#DidYouKnowMH archive – helpful MH4U tips for your everyday hunting

Jun 02, 2015 // Yuri Araujo

New and veteran hunters alike will find that  MH4U  is filled with little secrets, and while I know there’s a great satisfaction in discovering these gems, I’m also reminded that “sharing is caring”. So here’s a bunch of useful everyday hunting tips  4 U :

If you follow the  Monster Hunter social channels, you know we have a running series of short clips under the tag #DidYouKnowMH , and since we’ve now submitted more than 20 of these, it felt like the right time to compile a single destination featuring all them.

And to facilitate things, I’ve put them under various categories. =)

General tips:

Wave at hot air balloon to temporarily mark the monster on the map;

Primal Forest shortcut, from Base Camp to Area 3;

Crouch to carve slightly faster;

Eat Sautéed Fish+Drink to get Felyne Explorer and start the quest at the Secret Area;

Sleep at the Base Camp’s bed to fully heal yourself and your Palicoes, including ones that have fallen in battle;

Signal the map (Start, then X) to call your Palicoes towards you;

Roll towards a wall and hit A to start climbing (also works with your weapon unsheathed);

The Arena Switch helps keep monsters separate;

Knock flying monsters out of the sky with Flash Bombs – they generally drop a Shiny item twice per quest;

Roll 3 times to clear Fireblight, or once if you roll on water;

Small monsters are generally repelled by the Torch, except for insects, which are drawn to its light;

You can end Expeditions at any time, but you won’t get all the Caravan points;

There are armor sets based on various NPCs. Here’s the Caravaneer outfit;

Delay your standing animation after hard knockdowns by not pressing any buttons. This will keep you safe from incoming attacks;

Exhausted monsters will misfire attacks, leaving large openings for attacks;

Armor skills:

FOCUS – charge your attacks (and gauges) faster than normal;

GUARD BOOST – block certain previously unblockable attacks;

MUSHROMANCE – eat all types of mushrooms, each grants a unique effect;

TREMOR RES – prevents you from being staggered by tremor attacks, opening up opportunities for a more offensive playstyle;

EVADE EXTENDER – increases or evade distance;

WIDE RANGE – heal teammates, cure their status ailments or give everyone an Attack of Defense boost, if they’re in the same zone;

SPEED SHARPENING – brings the animation down to one swipe, instead of four ;

Monster specific tricks:

MONOBLOS, DIABLOS, SELTAS get their horns stuck on walls, leaving them open;
(note: in a similar fashion, TIGREX can get its mouths stuck on walls)

TEOSTRA uses his Supernova attack 100 seconds after becoming enraged;

GYPCEROS can be carved while they’re feigning death;

DEVILJHO eats all types of meat, including Tinged, Drugged and Poisoned;

MONOBLOS, DIABLOS, CEPHADROME, and other monsters that burrow are forced back to the surface with Sonic Bombs;

ZINOGRE when charged, have Fulgurbugs on their backs. Topple a Zinogre to gather such bugs (Stygian Zinogre carries the Dragonphage Bug);

DAH’REN MOHRAN rolls over with certain attacks letting you carve its mouth;

I’ll be updating this blog whenever a new #DidYouKnowMH tip is posted online, so check back once in a while, if you’re not into that social media stuff. If you are into social networking, however, you can find these, and future tips, on Vine , Instagram , Twitter and Facebook !

In the meantime, remember to share this with your fellow hunters. Imagine what it would be like if everyone out there knew that Teostra does his Supernova attack 100 seconds after entering rage mode, or that you can find out exactly where the monster is in the map by waving at the hot air balloon. 😉

Mega Man animated series coming in 2017

Jun 02, 2015 // Minish Capcom

Big news today – Capcom, Man of Action Entertainment and Dentsu Entertainment USA are joining forces to bring a 26-episode Mega Man series to airwaves in 2017!

The full release:

SANTA MONICA, CA – Dentsu Entertainment USA has partnered with Man of Action Entertainment to develop a 26-episode animated series based on Capcom’s iconic video game franchise Mega Man’ for the global market, it was announced today by Yuichi Kinoshita, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dentsu Entertainment USA, Inc.   Under terms of the deal, Dentsu Entertainment holds worldwide broadcast and licensing rights for all aspects of the new Mega Man TV series.

Dentsu handpicked Man Of Action Entertainment , creators of Ben 10 and Generator Rex, to create, write and executive produce the all-new Mega Man animated series.  Disney/Marvel’s Academy Award®-winning feature Big Hero 6 utilized the characters and team created by Man of Action, the bi-coastal creative studio and writers’ collective formed by creators and acclaimed comic book writers Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle.  Marvel called upon Man of Action to produce and write Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s Avengers Assemble for their successful launches on Disney XD.  The new Mega Man series has a target air date of 2017, coinciding with the franchise’s 30 th anniversary.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to introduce an all-new Mega Man to loyal fans and kids,” said Kinoshita, commenting on the deal.  “Having a celebrated character from Japan reimagined by Man Of Action is the ideal project for Dentsu Entertainment USA.”

Man of Action’s Rouleau said, “The 1990s Mega Man TV series was cool and different than other series targeted at kids during that time.  It featured great action, but also brought the laughs.  Mega Man is a character that is even more relevant for today’s kids and we are really looking forward to creating something new that still respects the long tradition of the character.”

The Mega Man franchise is grounded in a series of video games, first launched in 1987, featuring battles fought by the eponymous blue robot protagonist and an ongoing cast of allies and enemies.  The Mega Man multiverse has spawned over 130 video games on multiple gaming systems, selling over 30 million copies worldwide, as well as a plethora of toys, comics and collectibles.  A highly-rated Mega Man TV series was popular in the USA in the 1990s and aired for several seasons.

Now, 2017 is still (counts on fingers) TWO years away, so there’s no art or anything to share just yet. But as the months count down, we’ll be sure to share any and all news regarding this new series.

Q&A with Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition director and action director – Part 1

May 29, 2015 // GregaMan

The Devil May Cry series made a name for itself with “stylish action.” The idea of playing not just for efficiency or to overcome challenges, but with the unconventional and perhaps impractical goal of being “stylish,” has always been part of the series, from the moment it first dawned on players that they could juggle enemies in the air with bullets.

In Devil May Cry 3, the series took this concept to a new level, not only increasing players’ stylish combat options tenfold, but by employing the talents of famed action director Yuji Shimomura .

By the time DMC3 rolled around, Shimomura had already become a prominent action director and stunt coordinator with flicks like The Princess Blade, Returner,  and Moon Child under his belt. But the video gaming DMC3 medium gave him a new freedom to do things not possible or too costly with film. The results were as we have seen:

Yes, pretty much the most incredible, over-the-top, hilariously action-packed, and beautifully shot cutscenes in all of gaming.

Shimomura continued his contributions with Devil May Cry 4, and has returned once again to lend his talents to the new cutscenes in Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition.

He and the game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno, recently sat down for a candid interview about their collaboration on the series. Check out the first part of the interview below.

Look forward to Part 2 in the near future, and DMC4SE’s release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC beginning June 23rd.

RER2 Raid Mode – dev team’s favorite character builds

May 28, 2015 // Minish Capcom

Even if you’ve finished the story mode in Revelations 2, Raid Mode offers dozens (100+!) of additional gameplay hours chock full of unique abilities, unlockable characters and escalating difficulty.

Many of you have come up with some impressive character builds in the process, and I thought it would be fun to ask the Raid team what  they  use when clawing through the harder levels.

Raid Mode Game Designer:

I’ve been a fan of HUNK ever since RE2 – so I’m obviously going to choose him. I’m raising him to be the ultimate operative starting with his proprietary Stealth Cloak skill and inheriting skills from other characters. Befitting of the man called “Mr.Death!”

Cinematics Artist:

I love Moira. Especially Ninja Moira. Currently I’m getting into maxing out skills for inheritance, and enjoying that ninja feeling you get when using the Samurai Sword with the Stealth Cloak skill. If only we had put in a shuriken throwing skill!

Animation Artist:

Gina all the way. She dies right off the bat in the scenario mode, but I can use her around the clock in Raid Mode so I’ve been testing the possibilities provided by the “Gesticulating” skill. My favorite gesture for this is “Hip-hop Dance.” It triggers fast and has the best cancel frames so I can pull this move off and watch as the Afflicted and Rotten continually get knocked dizzy as she waves her head around. Hearing her say “Please forgive me!” is also a high point.

Raid Mode Game Designer:

I’m a Barry fan. In order to maximize his single shot potential I’ve leveled up the damage on my lv100 assault rifle 30 times at the bench, installed Charge Shot C and like to shoot while crouching. I wish we would have given him his “I have this!” line in Raid Mode. If I ever come across someone playing as Moira online I tend to be nicer to them than I would be otherwise.

Character Artist:

Alex. She’s not just some old lady! Even though she’s a new character she unfortunately starts out with some handicaps, but her “Bewilder” skill is incredibly effective in stages with enemies that are much higher level than her. You have to completely beat the scenario mode to unlock her, so there aren’t a whole lot of people playing as her yet (I’ve heard that she’s the 2nd least popular of the 15 characters) – so come on people! We need more Alex players out there! If you see someone online with an Alex icon, using Alex – that’s probably me.

Programmer:

I’ve been using with Lottie a lot. Even though she’s an alternate costume for Cipher she’s got her own voice clips! She says stuff like “I’m Lottie!” and “Don’t you love me anymore?” during gestures and she ends her slicin’ and dicin’ combo with the Samurai Sword with an “Aahhh ha ha ha ha!”, which is totally psycho! She wouldn’t feel out of place at all in something like Dead Rising!

Also, please keep an eye open for a little something extra in an upcoming update…
