ESGN Street Fighter Nights

Jan 25, 2014 // ComboFiend

What do you think would happen if you took eight of the best Super Street Fighter IV: AE 2012 players from around the world and had them battle it out for a chance at $25,000 US. Now what if you changed the format from a typical two out of three tournament format, to a first to seven series, yet gave the players the option to avoid battling against the opponents who may get in their way? Sounds like it could be pretty crazy right? Well, the fine folks at ESGN have put this model to work, resulting in some of the most intense Street Fighter matches ever recorded.

From the living room to the studio in the beautiful city of Berlin, Germany; featuring Mike Ross, Tokido, Infiltration, Xian, Alioune, Ryan Hart, Luffy and Filipino Champ, Street Fighters from five of the main capitals of the Fighting Game Community come together to compete for up to $25,000. In what is to be considered the greatest set of ‘money-matches’ ever filmed, commentators Gootecks and Tasteless join your staple host, Dan “Frodan” Chou, to show you all the high-level fights that your heart could desire on ESGN Fight Night: Street Fighter.

For a more detailed breakdown of how the format, feel check out the info graph below and don’t forget to tune into the action daily on ESGN’s channel starting this Monday, January 24th at 9:30pm CET (12:30pm PDT).

Meet the Characters of Dustforce

Jan 24, 2014 // Chris

Get to know the delicate differences between Dustman, Dustgirl, Dustkid, and Dustworth!

Have you had a chance to check out Dustforce yet? No?! Well, here, watch this little primer and jump back in with the rest of us down below.

Okay, there was one fairly important Dustforce detail we didn’t mention in that video above. You may have noticed there are four distinct titans of tidieness, and that option is hardly due to cosmetic reasons. This is (technically) a Capcom game after all, and I’m sure we don’t have to tell Street Fighter fans that all of that initially imperceptible minutia under the hood of selectable characters can be harnessed to make all the difference in the world.

Dustforce is no exception, and it won’t take you long to discover that Dustman, Dustgirl, Dustkid, and Dustworth have unique attributes and abilities that yield specific advantages/disadvantages in certain situations. But DON’T BE INTIMIDATED! You probably won’t even need to be aware of these details until a couple hours into the game, we’re laying a few out there for when you do. [Big, big shoutout to invert , who provided much of the unofficial intel  via Steam  including the four point scale you’ll find the characters graded below. These are not official stats from Hitbox Team nor Capcom, so they are subject to debate.]

Dustman

Weapon: Broom
Advantage: Light Attack Range

Jump Height: B
Fall Speed: B
Light Attack Range: B
Heavy Attack Range: C
Attack Speed: C

The defacto front man of Dustforce’s merry band of janitorial warriors, Dustman is an excellent starter character in that he’s a fairly versatile “all-around” character. As you can see, almost all of his stats hover around “slightly above average” and you could probably spend your first couple hours clearing stages as Dustman alone.

Dustgirl

Weapon: Push Broom
Advantage: Heavy Attack Range

Jump Height: B
Fall Speed:  B
Light Attack Range: C
Heavy Attack Range: B
Attack Speed:  C

Dustgirl is the perfect counterpart to Dustman, mostly because she shares a lot of his attributes. Above average jumps, speed, and light attacks. Yet while we feel they’d probably make a great couple, Dustgirl’s superior heavy attack range is sure to give old Dustman a complex.

Dustkid

Weapon: Dual Dusters
Advantage : Attack Speed, Triple Jump

Jump Height:  C
Fall Speed:  C
Light Attack Range:  D
Heavy Attack Range:  D
Attack Speed:  A

She may be short on stature, but Dustkid sure ain’t short on heart! The first thing you’ll notice is that the lass with the purple pom-poms has a rather impressive Triple Jump, one boost more than any other character in the game. For what she lacks in range, she more than makes up for in maneuverability while in the air and longer jumps.

Dustworth

Weapon: Vacuum
Advantage: Jump Height

Jump Height: A
Fall Speed: C
Light Attack Range:  A
Heavy Attack Range:  A
Attack Speed:  D

This lifelong janitor is getting on in years, so don’t expect Dustworth to move as quickly as the younglings above. However, he more than makes up for that drawback with his impressive attack range and verticality. Dustworth is far more capable of leaping to hard-to-reach places, plus his extended vacuum blast means he can spend more time away from grimy surfaces while using his superior hang time to his advantage.

Hope that’s a good primer for ya. But wait, there’s more!

Here’s a nifty little showcase on the minor/major differences between the four characters’ jump abilities. YouTuber TheBirdofPrey cleverly uses in-game blocks to measure the height and distance each character is capable of achieving from a resting stance. Check it out, and remember to give Dustforce a look on PS Vita (with numerous ways to save !), PS3, and Xbox 360 very soon.

Ultra Street Fighter IV – Upload online matches directly to YouTube!

Jan 24, 2014 // dawgtanian

Hey everyone, David Hinds here with some new information regarding one of the new features going into Ultra Street Fighter IV!

Have you ever played a momentous match online and wished you had the ability to share it for the whole world to see? Well soon you’ll be able to do exactly that, using our direct upload to YouTube feature in Ultra Street Fighter IV!

You’ll be able to select any match from your battle log of online matches, and choose whether to upload it in low or high quality, directly to your own YouTube channel! Whether it’s the best comeback since Daigo VS Justin Wong, or perhaps you had an encounter with a pro-player you want to share, this feature is great for those who are yet to own a direct capture device, and want to show off their favorite Ultra Street Fighter IV moments!

This is just another great feature we’re adding to Ultra Street Fighter IV, and we’re not done yet… I’ll be looking forward to seeing all your uploads come June time!

RE4 PC comparison screens, plus links to 60fps trailer

Jan 24, 2014 // Minish Capcom

Earlier this week we posted screens and a trailer for the upcoming Steam version of Resident Evil 4, which sports updated visuals and full Steam support (trading cards, achievements etc). Today we’ve got some comparison screens that really show off the changes made to the textures – now just imagine them moving at 60fps!

The “HD Textures” and “SD Textures” can be swapped on the fly via in-game menus. Check ’em side-by-side:

And here they are again, presented one by one if you want to have the full versions of both screenshots. These are both from the game running 1920×1080, btw.

And while 1920×1080 is the official supported resolution, you can crank things up to 2560×1600 or 2560×1440 if ya like – though be aware these aren’t formal suggestions so performance isn’t assured. We’ve had it running great at those sizes, but stick to 1920×1080 for optimal Plagas punishment.

As for the trailer, you can download it right here and watch on your own player for true 60fps goodness. The YouTube player doesn’t quite capture the experience, so I wanted to get the files up for your own use.

I’ll probably get some streams going soon!

Dustforce: From Newbie to Pro

Jan 23, 2014 // Chris

Watch Capcom Unity get their **** handed to them by the best Dustforce player on Earth!

In case you missed our Dustforce stream over on our Twitch channel , here’s a wonderful little YouTube archive of the events. Basically, we shoved poor Brelston into the game for the first time and made him play levels fresh. Then for comparison’s sake, we showed off the same level, only this time as completed in epic fashion by Thor, one of the best Dustforce players in the world! WATCH:

What the video showcases very well IMO (other than some ridiculously pro-level play, obviously) is the two ways different kinds of players can approach Dustforce. You can play it like you would any other platforms by going from point A to point B throughout its +50 levels and have a perfectly good time. Or if you prefer, you can tackle each level with an eye towards Double-S rankings, attempting to nail the perfect speedrun and/or the most complete cleaning combo.

Personally, I like doing both, but I absolutely love that I can approach the game differently depending on what kind of mood I’m in. Either way, playing the game normally will incrementally increase your skill whether you like it or not, and you’re gonna need to up your game eventually, in order to access some of the later stages, and especially to tackle some of those +150 free DLC levels coming after the game’s launch.

Dustforce is coming to consoles very soon, February 4th for PS Vita with a bunch of way to save thanks to the PS Vita PLAY program ( 20% OFF during its launch week for PlayStation Plus subscribers !) We’ll keep you posted on the launch details for PS3 and Xbox 360, so stay tuned

Custom snowboard brings back good memories of MM1, bad memories of MM8

Jan 22, 2014 // GregaMan

A Mega Man superfan, who wished to remain headless here, recently had this  amazing Mega Man snowboard made by the good people at OZ Snowboards I can only assume he was inspired by the totally fun and not at all infuriating Frost Man stage in Mega Man 8. Er, even though it’s a picture of bosses from Mega Man 1.

In any case, here’s hoping he fares a little better on the slopes than I did in my PAX playthrough back in 2012. Ugh.

Still, what a cool board!

Head on over for this limited edition item ($14.99) and also check out the Dead Rising 3 sign , the Mega Man soundtracks and more!

Miss our Strider livestream? Get caught up here

Jan 22, 2014 // GregaMan

If you missed our exclusive livestream of the new  Strider last week, never fear! You can get caught up after the jump with the archive recording. Fan darling Tristan and I looked at a new area of the game’s vast map, and then took on the impressively revamped Mecha-Pon boss, who you may remember defeating in like two seconds in the original game. No longer possible!!

Watch ‘n learn.

Fake Monster Hunter: The Real

Jan 21, 2014 // Yuri Araujo

Chances are you’ve already heard that  Monster Hunter: The Real is a Universal Studios Japan attraction – and like me, you’re probably really jealous of Japan for that.

But hey, here’s a fan art of how a Deviljho mascot costume could work! Seems pratical, right? I would love to see one of these as I walk around the park eating some popcorn with Kirin Butter and sipping some of my Goldenfish Brew.

This fan art was spotted on the tumblr Monster Hunter things , which may be a good place to find posts related to Monster Hunter things… then again, so is this blog =P

Speaking of Monster Hunter stuff, remember to tune in to  twitch at  3pm PT .
