Introducing Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate’s main threat, the Gore Magala

Jun 10, 2014 // Yuri Araujo

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate introduces a mysterious new monster; with it, comes a new game-changing system.

By now you have probably watched our E3 Trailer and seen a black dragon figure move about swiftly and face a vaulting hunter towards the very end. Or perhaps you’ve caught a glimpse of our newest life-size statue . That’s the Gore Magala!

However, this monster is not just here to look menacing… it brings us a new gameplay element that will make you rethink your approach to hunting monsters.

You see, the Gore Magala is actually blind. To compensate for that, it scatters these pollen-like scales around the field – you’ll see these as small pockets of black mist. While this helps the Gore Magala heighten its senses, becoming fully aware of prey (or hunters!), it is really detrimental to anyone who inhales it.

When other large monsters get infected with this mysterious virus, they go completely berserk! They become faster, stronger and capable of infecting YOU! As you get infected with the virus, you have two potential outcomes: you can either overcome it by attacking the monster, getting a temporary affinity boost; or after the virus gauge fills up, it can take over your body, lowering your health recovery (also temporary).

Now think about this for a second: in order to avoid getting the health de-buff, you have to attack the monster even more, and it will likely be the one that infected you in the first place! And that’s how most Gore Magala hunts go because it will always be able to infect you with the virus, making you to attack it when you would normally want to be running away!

You can see some of that action on the Twitch archive of the live stream we just had (with producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Kaname Fujioka!) or tune in tomorrow at 10am PT to see it live!

Catch up on the other  MH4U  monsters:

So look out for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate coming early 2015 on the Nintendo 3DS!

Truly awesome Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate photo-op, part 2

Jun 09, 2014 // Yuri Araujo

A new monster is in town, to instill fear in whoever looks at your photos!

Last week we revealed our brand new Insect Glaive weapon replica, and today I’m thrilled to announce our (larger than) life-size Gore Magala statue !

This is, by far, one of the best photo-ops we’ve ever had – if not the best! You can pose in front of the monster, next to it, or even on its back, just like the new gameplay system in MH4U!

Hey, you can bookmark this album to see every picture that we take from the E3 show floor – or you can follow the Monster Hunter Facebook page (what were you waiting for anyway???)

One more thing you may notice is that the sculpture portion of this photo-op is only about 1/3 of the actual Gore Magala. Bu there’s a very clear advantage to that: with a smaller and more portable statue we hope this will make it easier for us to bring this formidable monster to other events in the future. =)

So look forward to some epic photos on our Facebook album , and more info on the Gore Magala tomorrow! 😉

Virtual Console update: GBA titles, Breath of Fire and more

Jun 09, 2014 // Minish Capcom

Wii U and 3DS owners, get ready for a big ol’ blast from Capcom’s past! FIFTEEN classic titles will arrive on both the North American and European eShops later this year, including a few that haven’t been available for quite some time. We also have news on some additional titles a bit further out with dates to be confirmed later.

So happy to announce both Demon’s Crest and Breath of Fire – two of my favorite SNES games – will find a new home on the Wii U eShop. They’ll do so alongside the highly requested Mega Man 7 and X3, both of which came out late in the SNES’ lifespan; if you missed them in the ’90s (or the 2004 collection), 2014’s your chance!

GBA  games are a relatively new addition to the Wii U eShop. Happy to say Capcom has a lot to add to this service, including Mega Man Zero, Battle Network and Battle Chip Challenge. Zero 2 and Battle Network 2+3 are also planned, but they’re a bit further out. While they may not make 2014, we thought you’d like to know they’re in the works.

These have been out in Japan for a while, but today we can finally confirm Street Fighter 2010, Gargoyle’s Quest II and Mighty Final Fight are on their way to the NA/EU eShops. For NA, we can confirm these are coming to 3DS and Wii U, while currently EU can confirm Wii U (with 3DS dates TBD.)

However, Mega Man 5 and 6 will arrive on the Wii U in both regions, completing the NES series on that platform. Speaking of the Blue Bomber…

…we can confirm the Game Boy Mega Man titles will come to the EU 3DS Virtual Console later this summer, currently targeted for August. These were part of “Mega May” here in North America.

PHEW! That’s a whoppin’ 21 games coming to the Virtual Console across North America and Europe. This lineup spans decades, genres, consoles and even generations, so there’s something for everyone. Once we have solid dates we will of course make those known, but for now… maybe make some room on your SD cards :3

The confirmed 2014 list, just to make it copy/paste friendly:

Jun 09, 2014 // GregaMan

Dead Rising 3 is a game where you can dress up in a man-kini and slap zombies to death with a makeshift slapping device. However, if you require even more zaniness in your Xbox One gaming, Microsoft’s newly announced add-on content,  Super Ultra Dead Rising 3’ Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX + α, is most certainly for you.

Luckily, not only was it announced today—it’s out right now.

Super Ultra Dead Rising 3′ Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX + α is an all new, four-player coop mode for Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One. Play as classic DR heroes—yep, Frank and Chuck are back—and cosplay as your favorite Capcom characters both classic and recent. The cast of characters glimpsed in this trailer is absolutely stunning. Characters from Breath of Fire, Power Stone, Rival Schools, Dino Crisis ….It’s like somebody’s been scouring Ask Capcom.

Using these beloved characters and costumes, players will compete for the top score, unlocking new characters as they go, and fighting for survival in quite possibly the most Capcomian thing ever to happen.

The best thing about this announcement is that it’s not just a reveal—it’s a launch! Turn on your Xbox One and download this sucker right now! It’s only ten bucks, and we’ll be looking for people to play with during our E3 livestream! More info on our streaming schedule coming imminently!
