Resident Evil 4 comes to Steam with visual overhaul, 60fps and more

Jan 21, 2014 // Minish Capcom

Every entertainment medium can claim a handful of groundbreaking works that are worth revisiting over the years. For example, I’ll buy Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park every single time they’re re-released, because each new version (usually!) brings extra refinement and clarity to the overall package.

The same can be said of Resident Evil 4, one of Capcom’s best-selling and highest-rated games. Each time it’s revisited, we get an improved experience retooled for modern machines. Today we’re announcing a brand new version of the game for Steam (and Windows PC in EU) that’ll feature sharper textures, crisper text, a silky smooth 60fps framerate and full Steam support (Achievements, Steam Cloud, Trading Cards, global leaderboards, full game controller support) for $19.99 / €19.99.

RE4 for PC/Steam includes all the stuff you’ve seen in previous iterations (including Separate Ways and subtitles in French, Spanish, Italian, German and Japanese), just in the highest visual quality and smoothest fluidity ever released by Capcom. You can pre-purchase now on Steam to get an 80-page digital archive and the 62-track RE4 OST.

Minimum System Requirements:

OS: Windows XP/ Vista®, Windows 7, Windows 8

Processor: Intel® CoreTM2 Duo 2.4 Ghz or better, AMD AthlonTM X2 2.8 Ghz or better

Memory: 2 GB RAM / Hard Disk Space: 15 GB free hard drive space

Video Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800GTS or better, ATI RadeonTM HD 4850 or better

DirectX®: 9.0c or above / Sound: Standard audio device

Recommended System Requirements:

OS: Windows Vista®, Windows 7, Windows 8

Processor: Intel® CoreTM 2 Quad 2.7 Ghz or better, AMD PhenomTM II X4 3 Ghz or better

Memory: 4 GB RAM / Hard Disk Space: 15 GB free hard drive space

Video Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560 or better

I’ll have a few community activities in the coming weeks centering around RE4, including offering up a sealed chainsaw controller from the good ol’ days:

It’s sealed, in great condition and can’t wait to find a new home. More soon!

Monster Hunter Mondays postponed to tomorrow

Jan 20, 2014 // Yuri Araujo

Hi everyone. You know why I actually like Mondays? Because it’s when I get to stream  Monster Hunter and play/chat with you guys. Seriously, it’s always a ton of fun!

Which is why, I’m sorry to have to postpone this stream one more time. Last week, we were re-setting all of our streaming equipment, but this week I’m actually stuck with a project that is due today. =/

But don’t worry, we’ll be live tomorrow at the usual time and place so you can just pretend it’s Monday again. Also please don’t worry about this becoming a habit, or Tuesday becoming my new favorite day of the week… I promise you that won’t happen!

Dustforce PS Vita release date announced with numerous ways to save thanks to PS Play

Jan 20, 2014 // Chris

Dustforce sweeps onto Vita February 4th, and how you can get it for $7.99 for one week!

We’ll once again hammer home this point: If you’re not a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you should probably sign up immediately. Not only could you be playing DMC: Devil May Cry (among a ton of other things) free of charge right now , you can save 20% on Dustforce for PS Vita once it launches on February 4th [Deals and dates valid in SCEA territories only: US/CA/MX/BR/CL/AR]

So not only can you grab this indie darling for just $7.99 on PS Vita during its first week of launch, even if you stubbornly refuse to sign up for PS Plus, Dustforce is part of SCEA’s rather awesome PS Vita PLAY program , which has even more cost-saving benefits for Vita players starting tomorrow. Plan on picking up OlliOlli, DBZ: Battle of Z or TxK in addition to Dustforce?

Y our Vita truly deserves a little Dustforce

Well, PS Vita PLAY  gives you cash back from purchasing more than one eligible title until Feb 17th. You can earn up to $10 PSN credit, so if you factor in that 20% PS Plus subs can save on all PS Vita PLAY titles during their respective launch weeks, that’s basically a free game and then some .

Either way, Dustforce is hitting the Vita in just a few scant days, so even if you absolutely refuse to take advantage of all the deals SCEA has up for grabs, it’ll still only cost you $9.99 and already something of a steal. Peep that video above to see why or check out more official PS Vita PLAY deets over on the PlayStation Blog .

Ultra-classy Ace Attorney 3DS XL case now available for pre-order

Jan 20, 2014 // Chris

Perfect for the player who finds that humdrum, default 3DS XL exterior even slightly objectionable [UPDATED: Larger image of the case added!]

Quick: You’ve been invited to dinner with the President! Or maybe Senior Prom, or… something formal, is what I’m getting at! How exactly do you snazz up your 3DS into something you’d be proud to present as part of a pressed suit/shined shoe ensemble? Leave it to the Capcom Store to offer a solution:

P rototype, subject to change (although probably not by much)

Tis a beautiful sight, no? Now your 3DS XL can rock a highly classy, felt-lined 3DS case styled with all the minimalist savvy of Phoenix Wright and his iconic suit . This two piece case is coming out in late March 2014, but for those of you who want to make 100% sure you secure one, we recommend you PRE-ORDER NOW .

How the case works (swap Monster Hunter with Ace Attorney in your mind!)

We’re a big fan of these cases and they’ve received praise from Monster Hunter and Mega Man fans in the past. At just $19.99, it’s also an inexpensive way to provide your 3DS XL with a little extra safety and style, to say nothing of showing some love for Ace Attorney . Here’s that  pre-order link once again.

New Strider game pays dues to classic series

Jan 15, 2014 // GregaMan

Despite only having three, maybe three and a half games to its name, Strider has prevailed as a highly-recognized and beloved gaming IP. There’s just something so  cool about that Hiryu. But what is it about the old games themselves that compels people so? Is it those amazing locales? The distinct soundtracks that are by turns cool and bizarre? That one scene on the snowy mountain? What do  you  think?

In a recent interview with VG247,  Strider producer James Vance reaffirmed Capcom and Double Helix’s aim to distill the essence of what has made the series great and deliver the “quintessential Strider experience.”

From the article:

“The passion for, and understanding of the original games has been the number one driving force on the project. We are all huge fans who grew up with Strider on the Genesis/Mega Drive, and push every aspect of the game to delivery on the quintessential Strider experience.”

Strider   is poised to become the best Strider game ever when it comes out a little later this year. Remember to tune into Twitch tomorrow at 4pm PT to get an exclusive look!
