MMLC Robot Master List: Wind Man

Aug 28, 2015 // GregaMan

Number: DWN-047

Weapon:  Wind Storm

Weakness:  Centaur Flash

A wind-controlling robot with abilities similar to those of Air Man. Get away from his propeller attacks and dodge with straight, vertical jumps.

Wind Man and Air Man would be kindred spirits, were they not soulless robots. Both have industrial-grade fans embedded in their bodies, both have stages located precariously among the clouds, and both are big jerks.

One key difference here, though: Wind Man commands an army of killer pandas. And by “an army,” I mean “a few.”

Wind Man will use his shoulder-mounted jet turbines to generate winds up to 200mph, which can pull Mega Man in for contact damage. He can also launch spinning propellers at Mega Man in a dual-wave pattern that can be tricky to dodge.

Wind Man is susceptible to the space and time-distorting Centaur Flash. Use it to take him out—wait for it—in a flash. Then the Wind Storm weapon is yours. Use it to launch little tornadoes of doom like so:

David Oxford   (The Mega Man Network)
Wind Man is the second Robot Master to be designed by a fan from North America, and much like Knight Man before him, his visual aesthetic and personality kind of betray that.

This hulking robot has a bit of a rivalry with Air Man, but unfortunately for him, his attacks are nowhere near as devastating. In fact, a capable player might even find Wind Man to be a good starting point among the eight Robot Masters of Mega Man 6.

Strangely enough, the weapon you receive from him bears no resemblance to what he uses in battle. While he throws out dual propellers and uses his fans to push or pull Mega Man, the Blue Bomber instead receives a small tornado that moves much like Bubble Lead — and even adorns him in the same colors!

Jazz quartet, The Consouls, covers Cathar theme from MH4U

Aug 28, 2015 // Yuri Araujo

Monster Hunter covers are still pretty rare these days, but when they do come up , they always astound me with amazing quality and just the right amount of nostalgia to take me back. This MH4U Cathar theme cover by Australian band The Consouls is no exception! Check it out:

If you can, I definitely recommend putting on some headphones for maximum appreciation of all the little sounds… then close your eyes and just let their music reach your soul =]

MMLC Robot Master List: Tomahawk Man

Aug 27, 2015 // GregaMan

Number: DWN-046

Weapon:  Silver Tomahawk

Weakness:  Plant Barrier

A robot developed for combat. His Silver Tomahawk’s dead angle is covered with a jump attack, but you can slide under him when he does it.

I’ve got a lot of respect for Tomahawk Man. He’s stern, imposing, stylish as a boss (and he is a boss), and despite being created solely to compete a high-tech robot fighting tournament, he relies only on a trusty Tomahawk and some feathers.

It’s as though he is deliberately eschewing the reliance on technology so common throughout the Mega Man universe. Fitting, then, perhaps, that his one weakness is the power of nature itself, found in the form of Plant Man’s Plant Barrier. But using this effectively will require you to get up close and personal, so you better mean it.

Once you’ve beaten him, the Silver Tomahawk is yours!

David Oxford   (The Mega Man Network)
I don’t know what it is, but there’s just something about Tomahawk Man’s design that screams “awesome” to me. Maybe it’s the extravagant, colorful design, which the NES could only render a small part of. Interesting thing, too: When you look at him closely, the blue chin guard kind of makes him look like Flash Man.

Or maybe it’s how functional the design is, from the Silver Tomahawk on one arm to the huge, flowing feathered headdress, which is also a weapon in itself. Speaking of which, his weapon carries a nice arc which is handy for hitting foes that are not only far away, but well above your normal range as well.
I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention that his stage is one of my favorites in the series, playing up an old “wild west, but with robots” motif, complete with the robot cowboy TV actor Coltons. In addition to the great music, there’s a cool shimmering sunset background later on in his stage that apparently looked good enough for Nintendo to use it in their commercial for the game and top-loading NES.

R. Mika Flies Into The Ring

Aug 27, 2015 // haunts

Hey everyone!

We have a very special character joining the Street Fighter V roster today! It’s none other than the 7-Colored Bomber herself, Rainbow Mika!

Having made her first and only appearance (until now) in Street Fighter Alpha 3, R. Mika has long been a fan-favorite and we’re super stoked to bring her back after a long absence from the series. As a flamboyant young wrestler, Mika dreamed of one day becoming a star in the ring, much like her idol Zangief. Training under the strict tutelage of her coach, she traveled the world engaging in random matches with street fighters in order to spread her name and popularity.

R. Mika’s wrestling prowess will be on full display in Street Fighter V, as she dazzles opponents with a large variety of high-flying moves. This time around, her wrestling tag-team partner Nadeshiko also assists in the fight!

By calling Nadeshiko at the right time using R. Mika’s V-Trigger ability, you’ll be able to setup sneaky attacks and punishing command grab mix-ups that are sure to knock the stuffing out of your opponent. Players who enjoy close-combat guessing games and striking fear into the hearts of opponents will find R. Mika an absolute delight to play.

V-Skill: Mic Performance

  • R. Mika pulls out her trusty microphone and gives a heart-pumping monologue to the crowd. The longer the buttons are held down, the more powerful her normal and special throws become! During her monologue state, she is able to absorb one hit from the opponent and can also cancel the speech at any time by letting go of the buttons, causing her to fling the mic at the opponent.

V-Trigger: Nadeshiko (3 Variations)

  • Now this is wrestling! Depending on the direction held during the V-Trigger activation, R. Mika’s faithful tag-team partner will deliver a surprising, high flying attack at the opponent from different angles: neutral (body splash from above), hold back (dropkick from the front), hold forward (dropkick from behind). The different variations keep opponents guessing and afraid to hit buttons, perfectly setting up R. Mika’s damaging command throws.

Fans lucky enough to be attending PAX Prime this weekend in Seattle will have a chance to try out R. Mika at the Capcom booth, so be sure to swing by to see how she plays!

MMLC Robot Master List: Plant Man

Aug 26, 2015 // GregaMan

Number: DWN-045

Weapon:  Plant Barrier

Weakness:  Blizzard Attack

Once a mascot for a botanical garden. He doesn’t have many ways of attacking, so he should be easy to beat.

Plant Man is a robot masquerading as a plant, masquerading as a man. Or vice versa. And as a plant-themed Robot Master, Plant Man pays due homage to Wood Man of Mega Man 2. You’ll notice a number of reminiscent elements in Plant Man’s stage, from its tree-laden backdrop to the perhaps out-of-place ape adversaries.

And indeed, like Wood Man before him, Plant Man wields a shield weapon which he can generate around his body and then launch at Mega Man as a projectile. Simply jump over the launched Plant Barrier and retaliate with gunfire to turn Plant Man into mulch. You can use the Blizzard Attack to speed up the process.

Victory will allow Mega Man to equip the Plant Barrier himself for added protection and bragging rights.

But go find out for yourself! The Mega Man Legacy Collection is out now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC! Grab it!

Street Fighter V Worldwide Beta Test Update

Aug 26, 2015 // ComboFiend

What’s up everyone!

As a lot of you may have known, we’ve recently been holding regional server stress tests and have experienced minimal issues. Due to the promising results received, we are now moving forward with our worldwide beta test.

The worldwide beta test will begin on August 28 th at 4pm PST (August 29 th 12:00am BST/ 8:00am JST), and will continue for five days and end on September 2 nd at 7am PST (3:00pm BST/11:00pm JST). Outside of the servers being shut down for periodic maintenance, we expect everything to run continuously throughout the entire five day beta period.

Although we want you all to experience the awesomeness that is Street Fighter V during this time, please note that this is a beta and users may run into connectivity issues. This data is extremely helpful to us, as it will ensure that the final product will have the most optimal net code. In case there are issues, be sure to follow @SFVServer on Twitter for the latest updates on the status of the server.

Lastly, to help ensure that those that log into the beta have the best possible experience, we recommend the following:

  • Wired internet connections provide more stable speeds than Wi-Fi, so use a wired connection if you can.
  • Avoid downloading files in the background while playing, as it takes up bandwidth and slows your connection.

Make sure to bring your A game. The world is waiting!

MMLC Robot Master List: Knight Man

Aug 25, 2015 // GregaMan

Number: DWN-044

Weapon:  Knight Crusher

Weakness:  Yamato Spear

Designed with a medieval knight motif. His strong shield can block most attacks. Only the weapon that plays on his weakness can pierce it!

Happy launch day!

Knight Man, true to his name, is a chivalrous knight-bot who fights with a spiked flail. He also has a mohawk.

There’s something so expressive to me about Knight Man’s valiant jumping sprite. You can’t help but feel like he’s fighting by some noble code. Were it not for a slight twist of fate, we might have been allies, Knight Man.

Use Yamato Man’s spear to run Knight Man through and steal his flail.

David Oxford   (The Mega Man Network)
Knight Man’s design — and his weapon — are very striking. What’s more, it brings to mind the question of why it took six games for one of these guys to finally be given a more traditional shield (yours doesn’t count, Proto Man — besides, I shot right through it in Mega Man 3).

Funny thing about the NES’s limitations, though, is that the Knight Crush wasn’t able to be rendered in full detail — not easily, at least. Instead of swinging around on a chain, the spiked ball at the end just seems to move through the air almost independently. What makes it funny is that by this point in the series, I doubt anyone even batted an eye at a spiked mace flying around by itself!

One of the two Robot Masters to be created by a North American Mega Man fan, you can find out more about how that all went down in TMMN’s interview with Knight Man’s creator.

Adam “Heat Man” Anania, formerly of The Mega Man Network
Back with Quick Man, I talked about the “cool” Robot Masters of Mega Man. To be honest, with how the designs got increasingly detailed after Mega Man 4, it gets harder to distinguish who that “cool” guy is in the later games. But for Mega Man 6, I think it could Knight Man. But cool in more of a stoic sense.

Here’s a Robot Master modeled after, well, a traditional, valiant knight. Carrying both a weapon and a shield, he seems more prepared for battle than the rest of his companions. And that shield makes him a bit tricky to face head on, unless you have his weakness weapon of course. Then he gets pretty easy.

Want to know something embarrassing? For years and years, I had no idea Knight Crusher was multi-directional! I didn’t know until I saw it on YouTube!
