Don’t know what Dustforce is? It’s high time you learned, m’lad!
The reviews are pouring in for Strider, which is out today for Playstation 3 and Playstation 4, tomorrow for Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. I’m thrilled to say that the critical reception so far has been astoudingly positive! Hit the jump for a round-up, plus launch trailer and screens!
Destructoid – 9.5/10 “Double Helix has really come into its own.”
Polygon – 8.5/10 “Strider begins with considerably more player agency and ability than other exploration-based games, and the speed and finesse on display made it a joy to just … sort of … run around.”
GamesRadar – 4.5/5 “Strider makes itself known as the raddest game to come along in years.”
Game Informer – 8.75/10 ” Strider is a great reboot for old-school arcade junkies and at the same time a fresh action experience for newcomers to the franchise.”
GameSpot – 8/10 “From the moment you embark on your journey right up until the final deathblow, Strider is a blast to play.”
IGN – 7.5/10 “This reimagining of the original Strider establishes developer Double Helix’s firm grasp on the essence of the joy of movement that makes Strider Hiryu such a great character.” (*Note: Extra props to IGN for coining the phrase “murderous pinball.”)
Miss our exclusive Q&A session with the producers of Strider last evening? For SHAME. It was a great time, thanks in no small part to the excellent questions of those who did attend 😀
If you missed out, it’s still worth checking out the event thread and reviewing all the juicy tidbits, such as the PS4 version’s Remote Play compatibility, and why you simply must “cut down the tree in the cloud.”
As usual, he’s posted the folding pattern for these as well, and if you want to see more of his stuff, leave comments, “favorite” stuff, just drop by his DeviantArt gallery.
It took longer than expected, but we’ve finally chosen a winner for our Resident Evil 4 chainsaw contest ! The rules were to show off your RE collection, but with emphasis on Leon and the games he headlines. Composition of the photo was also considered.
Needless to say many of you have IMPRESSIVE hauls and all deserve the GameCube chainsaw controller, but we had to pick just one…
And the winner is Michael! Buy why you ask? Well first, he laid out three different presentations. One for RE2, one for RE4, one for RE6. Plenty of submissions had every game in the series and a noteworthy collection of movies, posters books and the like, but Michael’s focused on Leon and his three primary games. AND each game got its own photo spread. AND he had large enough pictures so I could make everything out.
So congrats!
But there were so many other amazing collections… including some that already featured a chainsaw controller!
BiohazardOtaku
ItchyTasty
Leon
I really liked this one for its ammo boxes and Handcannon homage.
Julian
Folks around the office enjoyed this one for its combining of digital and physical assets
Adam
And then I liked this one for its clever use of the RE6 poster, omitting everything except Leon and R E S I D E N T E V I L. (also shout out to the Atari 2600!)
Again, check the original post for the full assortment of comments and pictures. Lots of great stuff in there. Thanks for the pics everyone!
So while Gregaman and I were gathering footage from just about every Strider game and in-gamer appearance for our amazing, colossal Strider retrospective , we began to notice a startling trend. Strider Hiryu, despite having been a famously lethal, acrobatic badass for over two decades, gets smack talked with astounding regularity. Even when he’s just scaled a massive satellite dish or finished slicing through a robot gorilla, there’s no shortage of naysayers waiting in the wings to call him foolish and weak. As a tribute to that disrespectful treatment and this ultra-mushy day of days, we fashioned several Valentine delights featuring classic Strider trash talk. XOXO
Have a look at some ultra-hygienic beauty and/or WIN the game for PS3 or Vita and an awesome Dustforce Mini-Vacuum

The patches that our SF3:3s and MVC:O fans have been waiting for is finally live. The PSN patch is currently live, with the XboxLive version coming soon. Keep on reading for an in depth breakdown as to what these patches contain.
We have successfully migrated all the netcode improvements from MvCO and Darkstalkers to 3SOE, and in our tests the game behaves identical to those in the wild.
We replaced ping colors with numbers (in milliseconds).
Added filters for region (your current region, or all), opponent skill, and ping. It’s worth noting that the game will still return you matches that don’t match this criteria if none matching your criteria are found.
When creating a lobby you can make it so only people in your region can join.
Fixed the problem with the order of the lobby getting jumbled when people ready up.
Can “Mute All” on PS3 now.
Rank should, in theory, never get reset to 0. If your rank is currently 0 you will be stuck that way, however.
Moved ready/unready to separate buttons.
Leaderboards get updated faster/more reliably on PS3.
YouTube uploads on 360 will now be at 360p.
Defaulted Gill to “banned” in Player Match.
These fixes aren’t online specific, but these are on the list because they were either relatively easy to implement or things we deemed “must fixes” (like the super art meter length).
Super Art bars are now the correct length.
Can now turn off the Challenge bars on the in-game UI.
Added “Disable Stun” to training options.
We now remember the super art selected in player select, and default to that selection when you return to player select. It doesn’t auto-pick it, just highlights it.
Difficulty now affects Arcade Mode.
Fixed visual glitch in Remy’s Stage with scan lines on.
Fixed color for Urien’s Reflector (P2).
Fixed color for Poison (P2).
Made some changes to how Ryu’s bag falls over.
Fixed some random locks/hangs.
Added color bars by the character portraits on the UI that match the major colors selected by the player.
The MVC:O patch brings forth better matchmaking (similar to that of DSR) as well quite a few miscellaneous fixes.
