Worlds of Capcom Fan Art Contest: Entry #10 – The Giraffe
Aug 09, 2010 // jgonzo
We’re almost halfway through our Worlds of Capcom entries! We’ll be choosing a winner after all art has been shown!
The Giraffe (formerly known as shinygirafarig) has been making amazing plushies of Capcom characters for a while now (her Sheep Man was a hit at the Mega Man 10 launch event in NYC). For the Worlds of Capcom contest, she decided to do something incredibly creative. Check out the video above to see her idea in action, and hit the jump for her full explanation!
The idea probably started when MM9 was first released. I saw Splash Woman and I was like: “Hey look it’s Franziska von Karma.” I always wanted to make a series of fanart of Mega Man characters dressed up like Ace Attorney characters but besides for a few exceptions the idea never really took off.
I got into plushies and the original crossover idea kept on being pushed. Then I thought what if I brought the crossover idea for our three dimensional world? I designed Ace Attorney themed costumes for my handcrafted Mega Man stuff. I made sure that there was at least some characteristic the characters I am crossing over shared even with something as simple like Cut Man and Apollo having something scissorlike (or actual scissors for Cut Man) on their head.
The idea kept evolving from there. I wanted to share the excitement of having these dolls dressed up so I wanted my audience to watch me dress them up so rather than just showing pictures of the characters already in their costumes.
But why are the characters doing this? I went ahead and narrated a story to explain the motives behind the characters’ sudden interest in dressing up like someone they never met.
I hope you enjoy my little movie. In my opinion Apollo Cut Justice is so adorable I don’t think I ever want to take his costume off.
Awesome work, The Giraffe!
