The Mega Man X GameCube Controller

Jan 05, 2011 // jgonzo

Protodude has posted an interesting article about the “lost” PS2 Mega Man X controller that was supposed to come out shortly after the GameCube version. It never did, and as far as I can tell, it never will at this point, but his post does serve to remind us of the awesome Mega Man X GC controller that DID come out!

Hit the jump to find out the history of this awesome NubyTech controller (the same people that produced the amazing RE4 chainsaw controller).

Back in 2004, in celebration of the impending release of Mega Man X: Command Mission on the PS2 and GameCube, Capcom and Nubytech announced the creation of a brand new Mega Man X controller for both systems.

From the original press release:

The controllers feature a hi-tech design to bring out the futuristic feel of the Mega Man X series. NubyTech will also add customized Mega Man console decals to the collection so that gamers can enhance their videogame playground with futuristic graphics of their favorite hero.

Unfortunately, the controllers were delayed and the Mega Man X GameCube controller was not released until 2006, when Mega Man X Collection came out for that console. The PS2 version, for whatever reason, was never released.

But the product that DID come out, that is, the Mega Man X GameCube controller, was nothing short of amazing. It came in that awesome display ball case thing that you can see in the image above. I completely missed this when it came out, so I haven’t even seen this in person.

If you want to read more about the controller, you can check out IGN’s review (and more pics) of it back in 2006 here

Does anybody here on unity own one? Let us know what you think about it in the comments!
