SFxT Dev Blog: PS Vita packaging and POP materials!

Sep 07, 2012 // GregaMan

Time for another blog courtesy of SFxT Producer Tomoaki Ayano.

Gooooood morning everyone, Tomoaki Ayano here!

Just as I thought that August was coming to a close, Tokyo gets battered by storm after storm.

September marks one of the most popular events for gamers, and that’s the Tokyo Game Show! This year’s event runs from September 22nd to the 23rd for the public. If you’re attending, make sure to stop by the Capcom booth and say hi! I’ll be waiting for you with open arms!

Moving on to the development of the PS Vita version, I wanted to show off some of the promotional POP (point of purchase) displays that we’re currently making.

This is a POP poster for the store front. The actual size of the poster is half of your traditional B2 paper size (50 x 70 cm), so it’s quite large.

Kazuya’s face is a bit bigger than a normal adult’s head, so it gives you a truly intimidating presence! This poster extends from top to bottom, making it something you can hang alongside other game posters, or beside a game rack.

Here’s a standing signboard of the same design.
It’s even bigger than the poster, and is sure to command attention!

This here is a cutout POP display.

Cut each part and then put them up with games displayed in-store.
To the right of the middle is the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary logo!

This is a special POP flag that protrudes out from a game rack.
Since the stand is a magnet, there are a number of ways you can display this on store shelves.
Stores have a considerable amount of software that they need to sell, so having this kind of advertisement is very effective because it doesn’t get in the way of the actual games.

This here is a packaging POP.
The width is around 30 centimeters, making it easy to recognize even if you’re seeing it from across the store.

Here’s a shot with them all together!

What do you think?

I wrote a little bit about the PS Vita version’s packaging in a previous blog, but for the PS Vita packaging we aimed for a red color so that it stood out from everyone else. Of course, we made these POP displays red for the same reason.

I guess if you’re going to the store with the intention of buying a certain game you wouldn’t notice it, but there are a lot of devices at play when it comes to promoting the game, right down to the finest details. I bet if you took a close look at all of the promo materials in your local game store you’d notice an interesting pattern!

Finally, we have one announcement to make!

The “Street Fighter®” and the Tokyo-developed “A Bathing Ape®” brands are proud to announce a special collaboration!

Of course, these will also be available for sale at the Tokyo Game Show!

For those who can’t make it to TGS, you’ll be able to purchase your own merchandise online or at selected outlets, but be warned that depending on the merchandise, the purchase method may differ. For more details visit the special “A Bathing Ape® x Street Fighter ®” website! (Japanese only)
