MotoGP 09/10 Production Blog: 20 Player Online

Mar 04, 2010 // jgonzo

Moto GP 09/10’s demo is out today on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network! In celebration, we have our third entry in our Moto GP 09/10 Production Blog series.

QA Lead Derek Neal has spent a lot of time getting to know the ins and outs of MotoGP and he has generously decided to blog about his favorite things about the title. Presented below is the 3rd of several blogs. This one focuses on MotoGP 09/10’s 20 player online.

In the first and second blog posts in this series, I talked mainly about the offline Career Mode in MotoGP 09/10, which brings a lot of exciting new ideas and features to the table. But I didn’t say anything at the time about the equally robust Online play the game offers. Time to fix that.

MotoGP 09/10 has a hugely robust Online gameplay system, that supports up to 20 players in game at anyone time. Yes, 20 players in a race at the same time, with full voice chat, and the option to play anything from a single track to an entire Championship season.

There are two major Online modes, Career and Arcade, which follow the rules from the offline game modes that share those names. In Online Career, you can take your bike from the offline Career Mode and race it against other players, or even against famous pre-made riders like Valentino Rossi (there are well over 60 famous riders ready-made and available in this year’s MotoGP). In Online Arcade, you race against the clock, and can still time from other racers by slipstreaming them. Run out of time, and your bike will grind to a halt, and the race is over for you. You can also earn bonus time by completing Dynamic Objectives, having a perfect racing line, passing other riders, and showing off.

Finally, MotoGP 09/10 allows you to upload your best times to the leaderboards in the form of a downloadable ghost. Other racers can then download your ghost, and race against it in offline modes to try and beat your time! Of course, the same goes in reverse: you can download ghosts of the best racers, and race against them in Time Trial to try and surpass them.

There are still more Online features that I should probably cover, like stats from your racing career being accessible via a website, the voting system that gives all players in the room a small say in what tracks to run, the robust room creation options, and…a lot of other stuff. But I’m running out of space. For now, this will have to be enough to whet your appetites.
