Japanese Curry Chain Crosses Spoons with Capcom

Jan 19, 2012 // GregaMan

Prolific Japanese curry chain CoCo Ichibanya has crossed the line,  teaming up with Capcom Japan to present customers with Dhalsim-themed, stainless steel spoons in celebration of the upcoming Street Fighter x Tekken.  Though legend tells that curry originally came to Japan by way of India, modern Japanese curry is a far cry from its original inspiration, and I’m always surprised when “CoCo Ichi,” as the young folk call it, tries to bring back the whole India thing.

Still, the spoon’s cartoonified version of our beloved yoga master makes for a charming image, and it is true that the long, slender shape of a spoon is perfect for showcasing Dhalsim’s spectacular stretching ability.

Those who patronize participating CoCo Ichi locations in Japan between now and the end of February will receive a lottery ticket which just might allow them admittance into the wild and wonderful world of Dhalsim-themed flatware.

Interestingly, the restaurant’s website also advertises another prize spoon, this one the brainchild of famous designer Tokujin Yoshioka.

This sleek baby is said to have been “forged as if by magic from a single sheet of stainless steel.” It is also said that this particular spoon will make its bearer “feel the very instant of birth” and that it symbolizes origins, which I guess explains why it’s still partially embedded in the sheet of metal. If that’s too thoughtful for a Wednesday night dinner though, might I suggest going with that Dhalsim spoon I heard about.
