Dev Blog: Street Fighter x Tekken Info Round-Up

Nov 28, 2011 // GregaMan

It’s that time again! Here comes another Street Fighter x Tekken  dev blog. More info on the gem system within.

Hey everyone! Today I was hoping to review all of the information about SFXTK that’s available. However, I’m thinking that we’ll have new information for everyone by the end of the year. So before we hit you with the new stuff, there’s a lot of other things I want you to know, so let’s review everything up until now!

Gems are definitely something I want everyone to get a good understanding of.

This has already been shown off on the official site, but I’d like to write about the “Onslaught Gem”.

The Onslaught Gem allows you to absorb 50% more meter for your Cross Gauge.

↑Normally, Ryu’s close standing Heavy Punch gives you this much meter.

↑One Onslaught Gem activated! You acquire more gauge than normal.

↑Gems can be set as long as you have the slots, so if you equip three Onslaught Gems, one close standing Heavy Punch gives you this much gauge! Just imagine all the awesome things you can do!

That’s about all for the Onslaught Gem.

Oh, and to activate the effects of the Boost Gem? Yup, they require that you meet certain conditions first. Check out this example!

Onslaught Gem type example

Activation condition

Effect

Duration

Land 3 Special Moves

Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%

15 seconds

Land 1 Launcher

Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%

15 seconds

Your partner lands a Launcher

Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%

15 seconds

Perform a Reversal once

Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%

15 seconds

Get blocked 4 times

Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%

15 seconds

Hm, all Boost Gems have various effects and duration times. I’m sure there are some people there are thinking “I’ll equip three of the Gems with the ‘Get blocked 4 times’ condition! If my opponent turtles then I’ll get a ton of meter!”, and that’s great. There’s a lot of great ideas you can come up with! But wait!

With the current Gem system, you cannot equip two of the exact same Gem at the same time!

In other words, if you want to equip 3 Onslaught Gems, then you’ll have to equip 3 of them that have different activation conditions!

Yeah, that’s rough, huh? This Gem system is basically set up so if you want to get a great benefit, the conditions become harsher and harsher.

While you’re not used to the system, maybe it’s better to just equip a bunch of Gems that activate one by one.

That’s it for the SFXTK round-up, so let’s move on to SSFIV Arcade Edition!

We talked about this during last week’s blog, but in Japan, we are holding a national tournament on March 3 rd , 2012! So without further adieu, I’d like to unveil the official logo for the tournament right here!

↑What do you think?

SSFIV AE 2012 Capcom Official National Tournament “Hellish Spring War! ~Fighting Game Hina Matsuri~”

We managed to cram that extremely long tournament name into that logo, nice huh?

By the way, the “Hellish Spring War” part of the title is actually a parody of Akuma’s Raging Demon attack, but with a little bit of spring Street Fighter flair. (Note: In Japanese, the tournament is pronounced “Shungokusetsu,” and Akuma’s Raging Demon is pronounced “Shungokusatsu”)

Actually, Sakura also had an attack of the same name in the Street Fighter EX series too. You’re a confirmed Street Fighter maniac if you got the reference to Sakura’s move rather than Akuma’s!

So, here are the tournament details again!

Name: SSFIV AE 2012 Capcom Official National Tournament “Hellish Spring War! ~Fighting Game Hina Matsuri~”

Wondering who the strongest characters will be in the tournament? To get a better idea of how the chips might fall, we’re going to upload the official change list for SSFIV AE Ver. 2012 on November 30 th , so mark your calendars!

That’s it for this week! We’ll be back on November 30 th ! See ya!
