1UP has an interesting story of how Gouken made it into SFIV by a mistranslation, and an April fools joke they put up back in 1992. They talk about Sheng Long, and how his story was slowly built as a fan service into the Street Fighter history. Ono even states that the jokes that EGM made helped lead to the inclusion of Gouken!
