Tatsunoko Vs Capcom Producer’s thoughts on Tougeki

Sep 03, 2009 // s-kill

While everyone knows what it’s like to play the games, it’s a nice perspective to hear about the hopes and fears of a producer facing the unvarnished commentary of the best players in the world, live!

Togeki [a.k.a. ” Super Battle Opera “] was a blast!

It’s been a while since Togeki, but I would like to tell you how it was..
On August 15th in Tokyo, The Togeki/TvC tournament was held.
I wanted to see the SFIV event that was held on the day before, but I had some work to do so I only went to see TvC.

I had a lot of feedback from a lot of users, including bad comments as well, so I was quite nervous:
“What if the battles aren’t very exciting?”
“What if there are just a lot of battles with the same characters?”
“what if the tournament isn’t interesting?”
I wasn’t going to participate in the tournament, but yet I was very nervous.

So the preliminary round started.
I thought, ”Wow you guys are amazing players, no wonder you guys are here!”
Taking photos was prohibited so unfortunately I couldn’t take any, but the tournament turned out to be great.
Personally, I was very impressed with the people who won against giant characters.
There were players who really understood and even went beyond what RnD had intended for players.

As a developer who was involved in designing the title, I was very pleased that the tournament turned out to be a blast!
After the tournament was over, some event staff felt bad because they heard some :fans saying that TvC wasn’t a very balanced game, but I told them to not worry about it, TvC turned out exactly the way it was supposed to!  I’m glad that the tournament was very successful.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the tournament and those who helped organize it. Thank you everyone!

PS: The winner [Cha-jiman Takeshi, playing Ryu/Ken the Eagle] was a really funny guy. (Maybe he was a famous guy?).  I also told Kobayashi about how much everyone wants a sequel to Basara X! lol
