Stylish Monster Hunter-inspired fanart sets you in the right mood

Oct 30, 2012 // Yuri Araujo

Monster Hunter is a very interesting source for fanart. There’s no ONE particular character (or monster, in this case?) that everyone gravitates to, or a standard way to portray monsters or hunters. On the other hand, there isn’t a huge variety either, for some reason. For example, I don’t usually see pixel art or a serious western art take.

Anyways, these are two pieces that I think get it just right in very distinct ways. Here’s what I think:

Monster Hunter Tribute by Kuren (above) is a sort of impressionist and dynamic (and amazing) portrayal of Nargacuga’s speed and ferocity. I love how it’s all in black-and-white, and the only color is in Nargacuga’s eyes, just to remind you of her deadly looks!

Hunter by Hardedge-Maelstrom is just the complete opposite. The monster in question is his own creation (i.e. not in the game), so you can’t really relate to how to fight it… but it leaves you thinking, imagining how it would be to actually battle that thing. The huge teeth and the red colored sharp edges might be good hints of how scared you should be. Also, gotta love the vibrancy of those colors and effects!

That’s just what I think anyways… I’m sure you’ve got something to say about these pieces. Feel free to leave a comment below or say hello to the artist on their DeviantArt pages ( Kuren and Hardedge-Maelstrom )
