Let’s Take a Look Back on Little Nemo: The Dream Master

Aug 12, 2010 // jgonzo

During the summer of 1991 (I was seven at the time), I tried to spend a lot of time at my cousin Daniel’s house in Antioch, CA. There wasn’t much to do in that town, especially for seven-year-olds, but Daniel and his neighbor always had a seemingly endless supply of awesome NES games. In comparison, my parents would take me to the Good Guys to pick out discounted NES games from the bargain bins. That’s how I ended up playing an ungodly amount of Hydlide and Werewolf: The Last Warrior. This was also before I smartened up and started to rent video games from Blockbuster. But I digress, I’m here to talk about Little Nemo.

One of the games that Daniel’s neighbor had was Little Nemo: The Dream Master. After burning out on Battletoads, we checked it out and were instantly pulled into this whimsical world that we weren’t quite expecting. It reminded me a bit of Monster Party at the time, but the art style was what really stood out. Since there was only single player in that game, and kids got bored rather quickly, Daniel and his neighbor would go play elsewhere and leave me to enjoy Little Nemo on my own. It’s one of the fondest gaming memories that I can recall.

Over at Kombo.com , editor-in-chief Joey Davidson harbors the same feelings towards that game. He’s written up a really good article that outlines Little Nemo’s history and goes through the unique gameplay that made this Capcom classic such a gem. Go check it out !
