Fighting Hunger and Getting Free Stuff at the SFIV National Finals

Apr 21, 2009 // s-kill

Just thought I’d share a few more great aspects of last Saturday’s SFIV National Finals, outside of the hot tournament action itself.

First and foremost was the Second Harvest food drive action.  Street Fighter fans delivered in a big way, churning out 8,200 meals for kids.  Nice job guys!

Kristen Trojel, Second Harvest Corporate Relations Manager said “Street Fighter Fights Hunger” was an amazing event.  Not only was the competition exciting to watch but, the spirit of the event to fight hunger was inspiring to so many of the gamers.  Capcom raised $3,972.27 and 500 lbs of food which equates to over 8,200 meals provided for Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties.  We are thrilled with this new partnership and look forward to working with Capcom in the future.”

While the charity peeps were taking (for a great cause), we were giving away fat sacks of loot.  Free stuff up for grabs included Street Fighter laser-etching (for phones, lighters, or pretty much anything), amazing limited-edition Estate LA Street Fighter caps, exclusive event shirts, Ono-san signing everything, and even performances from Supreme Soul!

Truly a night not to be missed, though, being in the past, if you weren’t actually there, it’s kind of hard to not miss it now.  Making this kind of a cruel tease.

The lesson is, when Capcom says we’re doing something rad, come out or risk kicking yourself later!
