Capcom Retro Idol #9 – Demon’s Crest
May 05, 2010 // jgonzo
Today’s Capcom Retro Idol countdown entry is all about Demon’s Crest for the SNES! Below, you’ll find your Capcom Unity fellow member and representative for the game, Willie as he lists the reasons why Demon’s Crest should win this competition!
As always, you can now on over to the official Capcom Retro Idol forum thread to defend the next entry in our countdown: Mega Man X2 !
From Willie: Ladies and Gentlemen, this is 16bit gaming at it’s finest. Those of us who have been graced with being able to play this lovely game (or it’s 2 prequels), possibly have a special place in their hearts for it. The reasons are vast and great but allow me the honor of telling you a few reasons why we adore it so much.

Some of you are probably looking confused at our main character and yes, it’s probably exactly who you think it is. The annoying gargoyle from Ghosts and Goblins. That is one of Firebrand’s incarnations. This time Firebrand’s the star and he’s searching for the missing crests. Each crest allows Firebrand different abilities such as super strength, flight capabilities, and underwater battling.
Adventuring off the beaten path is the innate theme of the game. A really good way to describe the gameplay is Metroidvania meets Mega Man. There’s no one correct way to go at the game but like Mega Man, certain bosses are weak to certain crests.
There has been some sightings of Firebrand since he’s graced us with Demons Crest. After all, he is an incarnation of the Red Devils. Firebrand is actually the original one, a.k.a. Red Arremer Ace. The second incarnation appears in Ghouls & Ghosts and he is known as Red Arremer King. Next we have Red Arremer Joker who appears in the GBA version of Super Ghouls & Ghosts as well as the Japan only Namco X Capcom.
All of these incarnations have a Card motif except for the last one, Dark Red Devil. Dark Red Devil appeared in Ultimate Ghosts & Goblins. Now we all know that Firebrand is pretty beastly at ruining Arthur’s day and defeating other demons but some of us have seen him fight some of the best fighters that Capcom and SNK has to offer in SVC Chaos.
In actuality, he was the super super secret boss in that game. Even more recently, Red Arremer has appeared in Soki’s Tatsunoko vs Capcom Ending Movie. Unfortunately for us, it was a little blurry and it probably was a lesser Red Arremer not Firebrand.

As this contest drives on, one fact remains. Capcom has made a lot of memorable games and characters that deserve a comeback. Personal wishes of mines for Firebrand is possible inclusion in a new fighting game (Such as Marvel vs Capcom 3… please… ^_^) or even a brand new action/adventure/rpg game. There’s plenty of ways to go at bringing back some of our favorite heroes and villains from back in the day to the present. I know you guys hear us and I’m personally most appreciative of this. As many can tell, one of my personal gaming wishes came true recently (Check the avatar pic… ^_^). Thanks Capcom and show Firebrand and the rest of these guys some well deserved love. Props to those out there that know of Firebrand’s exploits whether good or bad. Now if you’ll excuse me, time to make another run at this game.
