Capcom Japan Presents: Our Favorite Solar Man Submissions

Apr 06, 2010 // jgonzo

First, a note from Mega Man 10 assistant producer Akiko Ito about this latest round of feedback:

Hello! First of all, I’m very happy that I got to see so many different types of art styles and I really enjoyed seeing them all. Thank you very much Mega Man fans! See you all in the collaboration round!

Also, this time, we have a special guest, Tatsuya Kitabayashi, who designed and created the original Japanese Mega Man Powered Up! Logo (aka Rockman Rockman). He wanted to join in on the conversation this week because of his excitement over the use of his logo in one of the art pieces.

Without further ado, I present Capcom Japan’s last round of honorable mentions for the Solar Man entries. Hit the jump to see more!

Seymour’s piece looks so cool! A long time ago, when I was a kid, I was very passionate about Japanese robot animation and at that time I found a lot of pictures of robot model kits inside of magazines. Looking back now, I know those robots weren’t real but they still got me excited about the possibilities. I’m not sure if Seymour has the same childhood memories as I had but I feel somewhat connected to him. Solar Man’s eyes being closed add a bit of intrigue and story behind the image itself.

Look at his smile on Garth’s piece! Yep, I can understand that. It’s understandable to be smiling in this situation. Combining Solar Man with the beach is a great idea, though I’m worried that Solar Man is having TOO much fun at the beach at the expense of his real job at the research facility! But Sheep Man changed jobs (sheepherder to circuit board manufacturer worker) so I guess it’s not that bad. I can identify some of the females from previous Mega Man games, so that tells me that he’s pretty passionate about this. Garth, keep up the good work and continue to make me smile! 🙂

Dave’s piece is neat in that it looks like it was made using paper pieces to form a collage. It has weird textures. The art piece seems calm, but the sun looks very active and I can almost feel the heat!

Hello! I’m Kitabayashi.

As always, I was working really late in the office and I heard Takeshita-san’s voice behind me.

Takeshita-san: “Are you busy?”

Me: “If I’m not busy, I would have already been home!”

Takeshita-san: “Check this out!”

Me: “Whoa!! Mega Man Powered Up 10??”

This is what happened and I decided to join in and comment! This person, R.Case , has skills! The thickness of lines and size on the logo are very accurate! And thankfully, the logo is the original Japanese logo, which it makes it easier for me to read. If I had the opportunity I would definitely make a Mega Man Powered Up version of Mega Man 10. All the Capcom Japan producers love Mega Man and I would like to send a great big thank you to all the Capcom Unity members that appreciate the Mega Man series.
