Capcom Digital Day news hits the Webz

Mar 13, 2008 // Kramez

1up covers PlunderWhat the heck is a “Digital Dayâ€? On Monday, we rolled out the red carpet to some of our friends in the local gamer media as well as a couple of dudes (just like you!) from our community for an event we dubbed “Capcom Digital Day.â€Fortuitous development timing and a huge slate of hot titles combined with an excellent public relations opportunity to form like Voltron and produce a half-day of announcements, updates, interviews and hands-on time with almost all of the games. We ended up with over 50 members of the San Francisco Bay Area games press in attendance, including folks from EGM, 1up, IGN, Gamespot, Gamespy, Gametrailers and Games Radar, as well as ladies and gentlemen from Wired, Joystiq and Destructoid and many, many more. Read on for titles announced, a brief lesson in “PR” and some other fun bits!

Here‒s the full list of the titles we announced/updated:

Lost Planet COLONIES EDITION : coming for PC and 360 on May 28

We Love Golf! : coming for Nintendo Wii in July. Now with online gameplay modes!

Mega Man Star Force 2 : two different flavors coming to the Nintendo DS in June.

Bionic Commando Rearmed : the digital re-imagining of the classic hits XBLA, PSN and PC digital distribution this spring.

Plunder : a brand-new pirate-themed action/strategy digital title coming for XBLA, PSN and PC in summer.

1942: Joint Strike : Capcom‒s classic WWII-themed vertical-scrolling arcade shooter arrives on XBLA and PSN in summer.

Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 : C3 received a new (trademarkable) name, based on the name of the original Japanese arcade game. Still on track for a spring release for XBLA and PSN.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix : we announced that Xbox 360 owners who purchase Wolf: C3 will automatically be eligible for the SSFIIT HDR Beta this spring. The full game will be coming to XBLA and PSN in the summer.

And, right in the middle, I snuck in Street Fighter IV character art for El Fuerte , just to see if the audience was paying attention.

The morning started with a (mercifully) brief presentation from yers truly, where I ran through the games and trailers that we were talking about. Once we jammed through the presentation, it was on to open gameplay and interview opps for the game media in attendance.

Wired covers Digital DayThe lobby of Capcom‒s offices had been transformed into a mini-E3, as we had two kiosks set up running the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Beta code, one room with eight systems running multiplayer matches of Lost Planet COLONIES EDITION, a room with four 360s running Plunder multiplayer, a room with 1942 and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 and a fourth room (where we usually play Rock Band) with a DS kiosk showing Mega Man Star Force 2 and a PC hosting a special Bionic Commando Rearmed challenge stage.

All of the information, screen shots, interviews, videos and trailers from Monday‒s event had been embargoed until this morning (March 13, to be exact), which is why you‒re hearing about Monday‒s Digital Day event on Wednesday. What does “embargo†mean? In these heady days of heavy video consumption on the internet, we know that you guys are more interested in seeing the game in motion rather than passively eyeballing at a set of screen shots that can never truly do a game justice (and are sometimes not actually from the game, although that is a PR practice that I do not subscribe to). So, we work with the members of the media to hold off posting our information for a few days to give the video gnomes at sites like Gametrailers and IGN the time to properly edit down all the interviews and footage they took at our event. The result: every site drops its stories around the same time, regardless of size. Makes things a bit more fair across the board for every website, big or small, blog or media conglomerate.

Most sites are busting out their coverage of all of our Digital Day titles this morning. I encourage you to head out and learn more about our games. There are too many sites running info today for me to call out in particular, but I’m guessing that your favorite spots — IGN , Gamespot , Gamespy , Gametrailers , 1up , Joystiq , Kotaku , etc. — will have tons of informations, screens and movies to check out.
