A Capcom Salute to Iron Man

May 06, 2013 // Chris

With Tony Stark’s latest big screen escapade upon us, we’re taking a look back at the stellar contributions Iron Man’s made to Capcom games…

If you’re like the rest of us here at Unity, you either saw Iron Man 3 on opening night, or you’re staying away from the internet to avoid spoilers, going to see it eventually, and probably kicking yourself for your of lack of camaraderie and pop culture curiosity (Looking at you , Gregaman !) Anyhoo, I was so psyched to see Tony Stark’s latest theatrical shenanigans, I whipped up this little tribute to Iron Man using his appearances throughout Capcom games (with significant help from Combofiend  pulling off the MvC moves.)

We’re all massive Marvel fans here at Capcom (duh), so it makes us swell with pride at just how well the character’s been represented in these handful of games. Not just in Marvel vs Capcom 1 through 3, but going even further back to Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems, Capcom’s first console collaboration with Iron Man, for the Super Nintendo back in 1996.

It’s one of those fine beat ‘em up obscurities that kinda got lost late in the SNES’ lifecycle, yet well worth rediscovering, which I did for the first time while doing an Iron Man tribute/retrospective last year for GamesRadar (in the midst of flipping the hell out over the release of Avengers.)

Back then, I unbiasedly stated that no one’s treated the character quite so well as Capcom, and after this quick and dirty look at EVERY Iron Man in-game appearance, I can’t imagine most of you won’t agree with me.
