2nd Annual Spring Fighter – Three Days of Street Fighter

Apr 14, 2011 // Snow

The action starts tonight, April 14th, with a special screening of ” I Got Next. ” Read on below for the details of the festivities in store.

We are proud to announce our 2nd Annual Spring Fighter!  With the success of last year’s tournament, we’ve stepped up our game and are devoting April 14th, 15th, and 16th to three unique and exciting Street Fighter 4 events.

On April 14th at 7pm we will be screening ‘I Got Next’ as part of our on-going Film Series. I Got Next takes a look at the players in the competitive Street Fighter scene who make it one of the most vibrant gaming communities in the US. It follows the resurgence of the fighting game scene after the release of Street Fighter 4 through the eyes of some of its top competitors, including Justin Wong, Mike Ross, and Joe Ciaramelli.  Following the screening there will be a discussion between featured competitive SF player, Joe Ciaramelli, Capcom representative and Street Fighter luminary, Seth Killian,  and Game Center Researcher, Charles Pratt.  There will also be plenty of time for audience questions. This event will be held in the Lower Level Lobby of 721 Broadway, in room 006.

Then, on Friday, April 15th, at 6PM on the 9th floor of 721 Broadway, Seth Killian will be giving a lecture on the unique aspects of play that arise when the game is set in motion.  After the lecture, we will have our SSFIV stations open for free practice, and Seth will be there to give tips and tricks on strategies for competitive play that will be sure to prepare for the next day’s event.

That event is our Second Annual Spring Fighter Tournament! This year, we’re very excited to announce that Spring Fighter is sponsored by Capcom!  The tournament will begin at 2pm on April 16th on the 9th floor of 721 Broadway and will be played on Super Street Fighter 4.  All levels of competition are welcome at Spring Fighter, so sign up to how you stack up against some of the best Street Fighter players at NYU and around New York City.  Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers of the double-elimination tournament.  1st place receives an Nintendo 3DS with Super Street Fighter 4 3D Edition, 2nd place receives a tournament level fighting stick, and third place receives a $75 dollar gift card to GameStop.

As always, The Open Library is openMonday through Friday from 2-8 in the lower level of 721 Broadway, so head there to brush up on your skills before the tournament.  There are sure to be plenty of fighters training leading up to the event, so stop by start sparring.  Remember, you can sign up to teach, learn, or practice with CO-OP, the Game Center’s Mentoring program.  Speak with an Open Library employee oremailnyugamecentercoop@gmail.com to request more information or set up a time and get a head start on the competition.

All of these events are open to the public, and spots are already filling up fast, so please RSVP for each event by emailinggamecenter@nyu.edu with your name and contact information.  Be sure to specify which events you’ll be attending in your RSVP.

The Game Center is very excited to be working with Capcom to bring you a series of world-class Street Fighter events, and we look forward to seeing you there!
